Class-U 2100N Atomic Locomotive

Descrição
Type:
General purpose railway locomotive

Speed:
~260 km/h

Powerplant:
Nuclear, 4x steam turbines generating 2100sW. 4x train wheel assembly electric driven.

Description

A large nuclear-powered locomotive built for operational times of long duration. After some experimentation with diesel-electric in the early stages, the Class-U was built anew for the purpose of making the Arctic run in good time without any fuel cost. Although the locomotive was not aerodynamically designed for excessive speeds, it generates a hefty surplus of electricity to transfer to powered carriages for additional drive.

The locomotive is equipped with a modular reactor unit that can be removed and replaced if needed. Note that if you toggle the reactor's bottom connectors from the locomotive's cockpit, you will have to toggle it back on in the cockpit and on the reactor itself to reattach it.

Operation

To get into the locomotive from the side, grab the handle above the door and crouch to swing inside.

  • Flip the battery master switch on the master panel, located behind the seats.
  • Turn on the reactor and powerplant on the powerplant control panel, located to the right of the driving position.
  • When used with carriages, turn on carriage motors and set throttle percentage (about 100 for single locomotive) via the control panel and keypad behind the seats.

Wait a minute or two for the reactor and boiler to heat up, generators will only start producing power once boiler pressure reach 0.25. Power output will settle at 2100.

Press H to view hotkeys.

  • Select forward (or reverse), located below the set speed lever, and push the set speed lever up to desired speed, the locomotive will automatically accelerate or brake to stay close to the set speed.
  • Press the track switch button next to the forward and reverse buttons to switch tracks.
  • If the dead man's switch is on, the train will stop if you fall off. When using multiple locomotives, turn it on on all locomotives.

Add the inverted version of the locomotive (see links below) to the rear of your train for extra power and two-way movement. When using a second locomotive, throttle percentage on the carriages can be set to 150-200 for maximum speed. To tune in radio control, see below.

Using multiple locomotives via radio control

Radios will be on by default with frequencies set to 501 transmit and 502 receive. Default frequencies are used when keypad inputs is set to zero.

If you're not using a command carriage, turn off the secondary locomotive's transmit radio, set the secondary locomotive's receive frequency to 501 and turn on radio control. Then operate and drive the train from the primary locomotive.

When using a command carriage:

  • Go to the command carriage and turn on the radios on the radio panel.
  • Turn on the reactors and powerplants on the power panel.
  • Flip the Auto-On switch, this will automatically switch on everything in the locomotives needed to drive the train.
  • Set throttle percentage to 150-200 on the keypad, depending on train length.

Notes

Uses a RN-500 modular reactor:

When the dead man's switch is turned on with longer trains, there may be moments when the player sensors don't detect the player properly, causing the train to apply brakes for a split second. This depends on both the speed of the train and PC performance.

-No XML modding, no LUA, no third-party dependencies.

is there a fixed version of this?

Hi; does anyone have a fix for this?

After the update broke the loco, i managed to go in and fix what issues there were and got it working as intended. Do i have your permission to upload a repaired version?

Hey there! I've used this locomotove a bunch in custom mode with infinite fuel and stuff, and now that i'm trying to use it in a carreer, i've noticed i only get a small punch of power (Say 5 seconds) and then the machine stops moving. After a bit of testing and looking around i found out it's because either the powerplant is not producing any electricity or it's not being received (properly), could you take a look?
(The "Generator output" dial also constantly reads 0)

I'm following the startup procedure but nothing is happening

Still hands down the best class of locomotive and cars. Thanks for keeping it updated and continually improving it, Dragon. It really is a wonderful set of equipment that's well thought out and works great.

Updated:

-RN-300 reactor replaced with newer RN-500 reactor.
-Driver's seat replaced and hotkeys added. Use W/S to set speed, press 1 to switch tracks and press Spacebar to sound the horn.

@A Normal Steem User - It applies full brakes when the set speed lever is zero. If you don't select forward/back and push the set speed lever up, it will engage neutral gear, which means it will then roll freely.

Keep wind in mind also. In Stormworks, a strong wind can push around even the heaviest objects.

Does the train even have a set of brakes? It rolls even on flat surfaces when it has been funny stopped

@Vokun Vulon - I still have to get to grips with the industrial features, but yes, transporting mined ore (coal especially) from Meier to the Arctic is a very profitable thing now.

I also want to include an airdropped vehicle for an aircraft I'm currently working on, which can then be easily adapted for rail use as well. Command carriages will be updated also, in order to control that aforementioned aircraft, a submarine and a destroyer I have planned. Also a new cargo ship that I want to finish as well at some point. Still lots of plans! Probably why I just can't stop playing SW...
