Apocalypse Railways, 1972-1987

Description
Nuclear winter has come. Miraculously, the missiles headed for Salt Lake City didn't reach their target. Still, people are starving and we're out of ammunition, no thanks to the mutants and bandits. Use the commemorative locomotives at Promontory, Jupiter and UP #119, to bring food and stability to the city. And look for somewhere warmer to survive these $@!#%#*% winters!!

I put a lot of love into this rather unique scenario. It starts in 1972. Salt Lake City is quickly losing population, and you need to stabilize it before you can start settling or connecting to other towns. Technology progression is abrupt, including select engines ranging from the Reno/Inyo (extremely close relatives to the Jupiter and UP #119) to the Super Hudson. The end locomotives are several times faster than the starting locomotives. This scenario is all about building a robust freight network to increase population, and is fairly difficult. (All objectives are possible.)

Please rate the scenario after you play it!

TIP: Delivering goods to a warehouse will help minimize population loss during the long winter, and you can even send good to cities before they've grown enough to need them. The highest demand commodity is scrap metal, since it's required for canned food, weapons, and cities demand it once a certain population is reached.

DLC Required: Down Under and any DLC that gives you snow (Northern Europe, Great Lakes, or Japan). It is playable without snow, but will be much easier.

Gameplay Changes:
- Double headed versions of some locomotives (2 locomotives pulling a train for 2x power and slightly better reliability)
- Oil-converted locomotives
- New commodities and factories
- A new tech tree
- Extensively modified locomotive stats
- Modified load weights
- Power and turn radius are more impactful than before
- Winter covers much more of the map in snow

Author's Note:
A big part of the reason I made this scenario was to figure out how much is possible with the scenario editor, and show other creators what can be achieved. I hope others might find inspiration from it, even though it's only my first scenario. Next, I look forward to creating a passengers and mail only scenario.

I don't remember why I chose 1972 exactly. I do remember having difficulty finding a way to piece together the timeline I wanted without shifting some dates around a little bit. 1972 was fairly close to everything I wanted.

Since there is only Salt Lake City during the first year and Winter is forcing you to staple goods, there is no need for an early express station in your headquarter... just wait until you'll receive a connection bonus :)

Is 17 January 1972 a special date to you? Since both, Jupiter and UP #119, were scrapped in the early nineteen-hundreds, and the replicas, project started in 1975, were not operational before 10 May 1979, I wonder when your time-line started to divert from ours.

Thanks, Carisa. It does appear to be impossible to have a tender with a double-header, since the second engine merely takes the place of the tender of the first. Therefore I did my best to stick with engines that look fine without a tender.

Absolutely beautiful. I love how it's telling a story in the tech tree it's so innovative. It's difficult at the start but the rest works perfectly. The winter wasn't that big of a problem to me. The double headers were pretty amazing, but locomotives like the Atlantic in the double header is missing it's tender. Maybe it's the game limitations that you can't add them idk but it's a small thing. Aside from that I really love this scenario I'll definately play it again in the future :D

The default 2mph from snow just doesn't feel realistic to me. If it's really that cold, all water ways will be completely frozen, that would look cool, wonder why the devs didn't make it so? The horses that do wagon transport will be dead if they venture outside for more than a few minutes. Also, towns would have a huge demand for heating fuel, else the inhabitants will all perish.

In terms of slowing the game. You can approximate this by adjusting the loco speed factor.

I believe the input values for the factory are controlling the conversion ratio. For example a setting of 1.0 means 1:1. a setting of 0.5 means 1:2.
