Craigs Jam Sugar Tanker

There are four tank wagons used on the Craigs line. They carry sugar to the Matheson jam factory, as sugar is an important ingredient in fruit jam.

The wagons start their journey in Wellington, where they are loaded with sugar that trucks have brought in from nearby processing plants. Once they’ve been unloaded at the factory, they are sent straight back down the line and added to a KiwiRail train in Tylah. Then they get taken back to Wellington and loaded up with more sugar, and the whole process repeats itself over and over again.
