The Class 390 Alstom Pendolino was introduced onto the West Coast Mainline (WCML) in 2002, coinciding with the multi billion pound west coast modernisation, and the 2002 Commonwealth Games held in Manchester. The WCML connects the major centres of London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, and Glasgow along the highly curved route. Due to these curves the idea of tilting trains to maximise speed was first explored in the 1970s by British Rail with the Advanced Passenger Train. Although ultimately a failure, the research paved the way for class 390 Pendolino trains developed by Alstom. The trains provided a significant increase in speed and capacity along what is one of the busiest rail corridors worldwide, with a top speed of 225kph/140mph (limited to 200/125 due to signalling) and trains of 9, and later 11 carriages in length.

This pack contains 9, and 11 coach formations of the class 390 train in a generic white livery with line colourable passenger doors, with a 5 coach formation also provided for compatibility with standard length stations. Turn on/off whichever you please in the content manager.

This train has a real life top speed of 225 kph (140 mph, with in cab signalling) and is thus deemed a high speed train with an in game top speed of 200 kph (IPT2 train speed setting of 32).
