Description
Updated for 2.0!
  • Moves the Etruscan and Rhaetian cultures from the Latin into a new Tyrsenian culture group
  • Replaces Etruria's and Rhaetia's generic ruler and office titles with Etruscan ones
  • Etruscans will no longer get Latin names
  • Renames Elbio Vulturreno to Alpiu Velthurna
  • More and more accurate Etruscan placenames, and different terms for "Army" and "Navy"
  • Changes the "Tuscia" founding decision, so Etruria will retain its name and (beautiful) colour

Recommended companion mod: Split Etruria (splits up Etruria into several city-states).

When using both, be sure to put Jozef's Immersive Etruria above Jozef's Split Etruria in your playset.

Changes for 2.0
  • Removed the fortress in Vatluna, added a fortress in Tarchna
  • Removed the port in Ceicna, added ports in Fufluna and Tarchna
  • Removed Temple of Turan in Vatluna, added the Temple of Fufluns in Fufluna, the Temple of Nethuns in Vatluna and the Temple of Tinia in Velzna*.
  • Added more cities, moved around pops, mainly concentrating them in the cities.

I also made some minor changes. I changed "Apulu" to "Aplu", for example. Because of the strong stress on the first syllable, the other syllables through time reduced or fell away completely. For the same reason I changed "Tarchuna" to "Tarchna".

*According to "Religion in Ancient Etruria" by Jean-René Jannot, Velthumna, the god honoured by the famous Fanum Voltumnae, may well have been the same god as, or one of the forms of, Tinia. As such, this Temple of Tinia is supposed to represent the Fanu.

New culture group
The Etruscans and Rhaetians are now part of the Tyrsenian culture group. This means that Latins will be more irritable under Etruscan rule, and vice versa. I wasn't sure whether this was a good idea, as at least Rome was pretty much just considered as one of the Etruscan cities, so the question is how much ethnically based strife there'd really be between them. Based on a book I read, the Etruscans were building cities among mainly tribal Latins, which could spark some discontent.

Either way, I ended up doing it as I prefer my Etruscans to have Etruscan names, and it's necessary to get another part of this mod to work (office titles). Also, it just feels a bit more accurate to not have Etruscans grouped in with Latins.

New ruler and office titles
All ruler and office titles have been replaced with Etruscan ones. The ruler titles were fairly simple, and I'd guess they're pretty accurate.

Ruler titles:
Chief Magistrate (federated tribe) and in all republics: Zilath Mechl Rasnal, Leader of the Popular Cause/Res Publica
Co-Consul: Zilath Zalna (Second Leader)
Other tribal chiefs: Zilath
King: Lauchum
Queen: Lauchumtha, 'king' with feminine suffix '-tha'

The office titles were a bit less simple. Of half of these, the meaning is simply not known, and I assigned them based purely on personal preference. For the other half, my source at least gives a (very tiny) bit of information about the meaning, and I added a 100% invented interpretation based on that.

Office titles:
Arbitrator/Chancellor/Censor: Maruchva, unknown magistrate
Elder/Royal Tutor/Praetor: Parnich, 'kind of magistry or priesthood' (interpretation: a priestly elder)
Warchief/Marshal/Tribunus Militum: Purthne, 'a kind of magistrate, dictator?' (interpretation: lord over the troops)
Bodyguard/Master of the Guard/Praefectus Militaris: Macstrev, unknown magistrate
High Priest/Augur: Netshvis, actually 'netśvis', Etruscan word for haruspex.
Wise One/Court Philosopher/Pontifex Maximus: Cechase, 'kind of magistracy', derivative of cecha 'ceremony' (interpretation: master of ceremonies)
Magistrate/Steward/Tribunis Plebis: Camthi, 'kind of magistrate'
Apothecary/Physician/Vulnerarius: Tamera, 'a kind of magistracy'

No more Latin character names
As the Etruscans and Rhaetians were previously included in the Latin culture group, they'd get the Latin names in common/cultures/00_latin.txt as well. Now that they're in the Tyrsenian group, they'll only get Etruscan ones. This means women will no longer all have Latin ordinal numbers as a name.

I was a bit surprised that the Etruscan ruler in this game, Elbio Vulturreno, was an actual person. His first name I can't find in Etruscan name lists, but I do find it as a name from Celtic origin (apparently meaning 'from the mountains'). In Wiktionary, I've found Proto-Celtic *albiyū to mean 'high mountain', among other meanings. I then devoiced the 'b' (the Etruscan language mainly distinguished between aspirated and non-aspirated stops, there were no voiced stops) to get the name 'Alpiu'. For his last name I couldn't find specific information, but I did find 'Velthurna' refers to the god Volturnus, who was originally Etruscan, so that could be correct.

Placenames and new terms for Legion and Navy
I've switched some names around, changed a couple, and also made some slight changes to improve the Etruscan vibe. The new terms for "legion" and "navy", "Purth" and "Nave", may well not really be correct.

I gotta say I admire your attention to detail and historical authenticity. Etruscan culture is very interesting to me, especially the lost language

It seems that the mod unlocks Italic Tribe Traditions for every nation, not just Italics and Etruscans, at least for player-led nations.

My Split Etruria mod has been released, though it's pretty basic at the moment: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2407676143
