Shattered Land

Description

SHATTERED LAND is an alternate history mod for Hearts of Iron IV, which brings the chaotic and turbulent events of Indian independence and partition right into the middle of World War 2.

Shattered Land includes 13 national focus trees for India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Burma, Ceylon, Afghanistan, Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim, Goa, Pondicherry, and Maldives with over 1400+ historically inspired national focuses.

Dive deep into British Raj politics with 100+ political leaders and 650+ political advisors across six ideologies: Monarchist, Nationalist, Democratic, Communist, Religious (Islamic), and Religious (Dharmic).

Lead colonial armies, axis collaborators, communist guerillas, and religious militia in the fight for supremacy over the Indian subcontinent with 300+ generals, military staff, and recruitable units.

During the Great War, over a million Indian troops had served overseas for the British cause. 74,000 died and 69,000 were wounded. Indian leaders had hoped that the sacrifices made would help India gain her freedom. Increased taxes, unemployed war veterans, and depleted resources lead to starvation and food riots. The British Raj responded with the Rowlatt Act - allowing indefinite detention and incarceration without trial. However, the Raj eventually had to enact the Government of India Act, 1935 providing for limited autonomy and provincial elections. Resistance grows from many directions; India's role in a new war may not be decided by Britain alone.

As Jinnah falls ill soon after Independence, many political forces jostle for influence. If Jinnah succumbs, what will become of this newly independent nation facing many threats? And if Jinnah does survive his illness, will he lead the country as a benevolent father of the nation … or will destiny take a more sinister turn?

The British colony of Burma is plentiful in natural resources. As colonial administrators expand infrastructure within Burma and bring in additional labour from India to exploit Burma's natural wealth, it seems unlikley that the local Burmese will stand by idly.

The drought of 1934 experienced by the British crown colony of Ceylon went from bad to worse as the drought was followed by floods in October and an outbreak of malaria. A severe shortage of rice further aggravated the situation, with the population now facing widespread malnutrition. The tone-deaf collection of funds for British war veterans by colonial authorities may not go down well.

The Great Game is afoot once again in Afghanistan as King Nadir Shah passes away, passing the baton on to young Zahir Shah. As the exiled former King Amanullah Khan eagerly watches with great interest, various tribes across Afghanistan are arming themselves. With many internal factions jostling for power, foreign powers get drawn into the Graveyard of Empires once again.

Even as the Two Nation theory leads to the formation of Pakistan as the homeland of all Muslims across the subcontinent, will Bengalis get justice in East Pakistan? Will they be able to live in solidarity with fellow Muslims? Or will they just be replacing one colonial master with another? What identity do the people seek ... one based on land, faith, or language?

The "War In Heaven" update focuses on the Himalayan region and adds focus trees for Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan. Guide the destiny of these Himalayan nations as their pristine homelands stand at risk of becoming blood-soaked chessboards of larger empires. Will the coming global war see existing power structures strengthen their hold or will it be a catalyst for turmoil and change?

Despite their tiny sizes, the colonial enclaves of Goa and Pondicherry remain important as centres of commerce and naval activity, and as cosmopolitan melting pots of Indian and Western cultures. The once-legendary reputation of Maldives as masters of shipbuilding is now a very distant memory thanks to its internal power struggles. As war looms across the Indian Ocean, can these small maritime powers avoid being swallowed by the leviathans that now circle their seas? Through trade, or through piracy, perhaps even the small fish can find a way to eat the bigger fish.

Thanks for these notes guys. I have captured the Madani-Iqbal debate on the Indian Muslim League sub-branch, let me see if I can add Iqbal as a leader for Pakistan when I get to that (along with some of the other suggestions - some of them would for sure make some interesting reading at the very least.)

@Krasna Merah Thanks for pointing that out. Idk y but i was thinking he died earlier. Got refresh my dates. But a way to extend him onward or retire like you said would still be nice. Iqbal never got to see his dream realized. I would like to do so in game.

@abdullahtariq47, Muhammad Iqbal died in 1938 so he's still there.

But an event should be added upon his death to 'retire' him.

Additional things:
- Option to directly become a monarchy. That option currently missing in focus tree, have to wait for monarchist support to rise. Also the option to chose between to monarchist leaders, either Aga Khan or Mirza Mohammad Bedar Bakht / Ziauddin Tucy (the two claimed descendants of the last mughal emperor).

- Decision or focus that allows fatima Jinnah to suceed Jinnah if Jinnah dies.

- Focus that creates SUPARCO (Pakistan's space agency, maybe this focus grants rocket site, rocket tech and jet tech boosts?)

- Dr Abdus Salam as a research booster advisor or something

- Władysław Turowicz (a polish pakistan air commodore)

- Focus for Baghdad pact (Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Turkey Alliance/faction)

- There was a proposed confederation plan under King Zahir Shah of Afghanistan to merge with Pakistan in 1953 (could be a focus that sends a decision that either if accepted, annex afghanistan to Pakistan or grants a war goal if refused).

Other politicians to include:
- Chaudhry Khaliquzzaman
- Fatima Jinnah (Jinnah's Sister, Regarded as the Mother of Pakistan. Maybe option if jinnah dies, she has some way to become leader? She contested ayub khan for the presidential election at one point.)
- A. K. Fazlul Huq (The lion of bengal, the man who presented the Lahore resolution)
- Mohammad Ali Bogra
- Muhammad Zafarullah Khan (1st foreign minister of Pakistan, man was a master speaker and politician, could dazzle you with words.)
- Ch Rehmat Ali (The man that came up with the name Pakistan, he also had a weird idea on what parts of India should have been in Pakistan, look that map up, see if you add focus that gives you that specific war goal.
- Huseyn Suhrawardy
- Jogendra Nath Mandal (first law minister, idk if he is the one you have as leader if you go hindu Pakistan)
- Victor Turner (founded pakistan's finance and civil services board)

@Orphanmaker So in addition to the generals, admirals and airforce officers mentioned last time, i was hoping whether you could include some more politicians for Pakistan. One recommendation would be:
Allama Muhammad Iqbal, regarded as Spiritual Father of Pakistan. Presented and conceived the idea of Pakistan. Maybe make him like a stability boosting advisor? (I know he died in 1932 but apparently base game Raj has him as an advisor so maybe work some magic).

@abdullahtariq47 Thanks for the kind words man. Of course, I have some notes from a previous comment of yours as well. I am mid-way through an Afghanistan update. Let me know your ideas, I'll see if I can include some when I get to Pakistan next.

@Orphanmaker Hey man, chill. You have already worked so hard to make this stellar mod alone. Rest easy on the princely states update, we all enjoying what you have given us so far. This is the best Hoi 4 mod out there. Thanks for all your hard work!!!

Regarding adding new focus tree, I have a few ideas for Pakistan that you could consider if you willing to hear them. Lemme know!
