Galeazzi Submersible Decompression Chamber (SDC)

Description
The Galeazzi Submersible Decompression Chamber (SDC) was used for the purpose of safely and quickly returning divers from depth to the surface where they could go through decompression procedures in relative safety aboard Calypso under the watchful eye of a doctor or trained professional. This device also made it possible so divers could spend more time on the bottom and didn't have to worry about making "decompression stops" on there way to the surface.

In game the SDC is partially functional, it can allow you more time on the bottom, but since decompression sickness "The Bends" is not something you have to worry about, this SDC really is just for fun.

OPERATION:

*IT IS NOT A DIVING BELL AND CANNOT FUNCTION AS ONE
*Also it is recommend you use the SDC in calm seas because as Calypso rises and falls in the water so will the SDC, only its movements will be compounded by the length of the cable. Making it difficult for you to enter the bobbing SDC at depth.

-Once you have the SDC connected to the crane lower it over the side and submerge about 2/3's of the vessel in the water.
*Note: The SDC is alittle large and cannot negotiate the crowded deck of Calypso well. You will be forced to drag it over the Aft Winch with the deck crane.
-Have a "Service Diver" (someone wearing scuba gear) prepare the SDC

---To prepare the SDC follow these steps---
- Insure the bottom hatch is open
*Note: If the hatch cannot be opened its possible the chamber internal pressure is different then the outside pressure.
To equalize the pressure open the "Emergency Depressurization Valve" located outside the SDC. Once the pressure has equalized the hatch will open. Make sure to turn off the Emergency Depressurization Key.
- Have the Diver go inside and turn on the light, the drain pump, and if on, turn off the decompression valve
- The SDC is now ready to be submerged. On top of the SDC you will see a "Descent/Winch Out" Key turn that on.
The SDC will begin to descend. If the ocean floor is within 100M of the surface the SDC will automatically stop within 25M of the bottom of the ocean floor. If the ocean floor is deeper the 100M the SDC will stop when all of the winch cable is out.

---DIVING---

Have your Deep Sea diver enter the water and begin their dive. As they pass the SDC it is recommend they turn off the "Descent/Winch Out" key to avoid having to do it later. Also verify the hatch is still open, it may have closed during the descent. Then continue with their dive.
*Note: If the hatch has closed scrub/cancel the dive. Return the SDC to the surface using the external "Ascent/Winch In" key located on the roof of the SDC. Once the SDC is on the surface start the preparation process again. Its possible the SDC registered a rapid descent due to sea state and automatically closed the hatch forcing a difference in pressure between the outside and inside of the SDC.

---ASCENT---

After the dive is complete the Deep Sea Diver can return to the SDC and store there gear in one of the storage racks located around the outside of the SDC or wear it into the vessel, then quickly move inside and close the hatch.
- Activate the "Ascent/Winch In" control
- The readout on the Depth Gauge will begin to rise, the Internal Pressure gauge should remain the same.
*Note: Because of your ascent the pressure difference between the outside and inside of the SDC will prevent you from opening the hatch again until you depressurize the SDC. Which can only be done at or very near the surface.

-Once on the surface turn off the ascent winch by turning the key until you hear the winch motor stop (should take two turns).
- Open the Depressurization Valve and observe that the internal pressure equalizes/lowers. At 1.0 BAR the pressure has equalized and the bottom hatch can be opened.

It is possible when you stowed your diving gear and transferred inside the SDC you were (hopefully only mildly) hurt. If you require there is a Hyperbaric Chamber (Decompression Chamber aka. Medical Bed) located on the Upper deck starboard side you can use, or sleep it off. You'll be fine! :D

UPDATE 24 Sept 2019:
- The Drain Pump is now effective of removing water from from the Chamber at any depth

ENJOY!

So I was going to pull up this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ocf_fSMSkgU&t=448s to show you how the SDC was used by Cousteau. I heard Cousteau mention "we enter the WARM haven of the decompression chamber"....FINE! I'll think about adding a heater :steamhappy:

I like the idea about the seats and I suppose I could increase the tolerance for the decompression depth. As for the heaters, even in the arctic no amount of insulation or circulating fluid in a dry suit would protect you from the frigid waters forever. You might just have to manage your time on the bottom better, not trying to be mean, but making it too easy takes some of the challenge out of it. Also space is limited (as you know) inside the SDC, not unlike the original. Storage of scuba gear inside of the SDC would be difficult especially after adding seats...

also a bit more leeway for the depth decompression starts at would be nice (maybe from 15m and above?)

this could do with a heater of some sort for arctic diving (cant tell you how many times i've frozen to death in it). plus maybe some of the new seats to avoid some of the physics issues and maybe a way of removing your diving gear whilst inside the chamber (water pressure now does damage)

Should be about 100M (length of the cable). But it will stop descending 25M from the ocean floor.

Max depth is 70m?

Oh, well go over and watch the tutorial videos for Calypso of which there are two.
Hope that helps
