The Virulent Overhaul

Crimson Court: Virulent Overhaul is a major rework of the Courtyard. The mod aims to convert the existing Courtyard into a traditional region and revamp existing content to provide a new experience.

Features:

  1. Regional Dungeon - Replaces the static, Epic-length dungeons of the Courtyard with traditional, randomly-generated dungeon maps. You will also be able to fight ALL of the Crimson Court bosses (and mini-bosses!) on all three difficulty tiers: Apprentice, Veteran and Champion.
  2. Old Foes; New Challenges - Reworks many of the Crimson Court enemies (bosses included) by altering their stats, skill effects, AI or outright giving them new moves.
  3. Curio Mini-Expansion - Some Courtyard curios have been altered to provide better effects (or loot), and new interactions. The variety of curios in the Courtyard has also been expanded on.
  4. Virulent Quirks - Upgrade the Crimson Curse by obtaining the new Virulent quirks! These quirks are extremely powerful, but that power can only be harnessed for a brief period of time.
  5. New Trinkets - Expand your collection of trinkets by finding over 5 new trinkets scattered across the Estate!
  6. No Infestation - The Bloodsuckers will remain in the Courtyard and won't wander off into other regions.
  7. Fanatic, where he should be - The Fanatic will no longer roam the Estate's many regions. Instead, he will dedicate himself to roaming the Courtyard to wipe out the infestation...and anyone that might get infected.
  8. The Cure is no longer limited to being Fanatic loot - You can now find The Cure as very rare loot when exploring anywhere in the Estate! Of course, the Fanatic is still a reliable means of getting it.
  9. Post-Countess Content - The journey is not over once you vanquish the Countess. Powerful, Elite enemies will rise to avenge their fallen queen!

Compatability:

Due to the extensive changes this mod makes, any mod that affects the Courtyard may be incompatible. The exceptions are mods that exclusively affect the following:
  • Crimson Court Trinkets - This mod does not make any alterations to the Crimson Court trinkets. It is also compatible with mods that add new Crimson Court trinkets to the game (e.g. class mods)

Level 2 and 4 Quests: Compatible

Scarlet Ruins: Place this mod above Scarlet Ruins in your load order to prevent it from unnecessarily overwriting files from this mod. Indirectly causes a slight change for the Champion Countess fight.

Unhooded Shrew Mini-boss: Both mods make changes to the Hooded Shrew curio. Place Unhooded Shrew Mini-Boss above this mod in your load order to overwrite the changes made by this mod.

The Color of Blood: Requires the initial Crimson Court plot quest to be completed before Bloodsuckers are allowed to show up in endless (this mod hides that quest). If you install this mod before completing the "Burn the Hives" quest, you will need a compatability patch.


Installation & Uinstallation:

It is recommended to install on a fresh save for the best experience. If you want to install this mod mid-playthrough or uninstall this mod, follow the steps:
  1. Enter any of the 4 vanilla dungeons in the game
  2. Complete the quest, but DO NOT return to the Hamlet
  3. Exit to Main Menu and install (or uninstall) this mod
  4. Re-enter your game and immediately return to the Hamlet

Add-Ons:

When installing Add-Ons, make sure you place them above this mod in your load order or they may not work properly

  1. Roaming Fanatic: Restores Fanatic encounters in the Ruins, Cove, Weald and Warrens
  2. Infestation: Restores Infestation encounters in the Ruins, Cove, Weald and Warrens
  3. Low Infestation: Restores Infestation encounters in the Ruins, Cove, Weald and Warrens. Spawn rate is the same as "Low" infestation
  4. Normal Baron: Restores the original Baron encounter.
  5. Normal Viscount: Restores the original Viscount encounter.
  6. Normal Guardian: Restores the original Garden Guardian encounter.
  7. Normal Crocodilian: Restores the original Crocodilian encounter
  8. Normal Fanatic: Restores the original Fanatic encounter
  9. Roaming Thing: Allows the Thing From The Stars from the Color of Madness DLC to roam the Courtyard

can there be a version of this mod that reverts all the enemy changes but keeps the changes to the courtyard being its own reigion?

You should really give an overview of how the bosses have been changed. If I had known you just removed the requirement for the shield to be destroyed for the guardian to start charging annihilation I wouldn't have bothered, cant imagine who wants to fight an 'apprentice' level boss that can 1 shot their entire team on turn 4 with no counter besides DPS racing.

This was last updated in 2019 so I don't think it's still being worked on, but yeah the courtesan in particular is genuinely unfair, she's harder than some actual bosses, waaaay stronger than all the other champion level enemies from the other regions. Would be great it someone made an add-on for a normal version of the courtesan.

Alright so this overhaul is pretty nice and has a good idea, but the way the enemies are balanced specially on high levels is just terrible. High dodge on everyone , high speed and the courtesan can just end your run by giving everyone a free turn with no punish on the enemies or nothing to help the player.

Increasing the dodge just makes it more RNG to kill the enemies, even with accuracy buffs and trinkets, and I mean this because i use alot of mods with some very strong features and yet its still problematic. My suggestion would be to make the enemies more punishable and reduce their dodge, if you want to make them harder to kill it would be more efficient to give PROT and higher resistances like agaisnt blight for example or just add other mechanics that aren't too breaking,like how alot of the courtyard enemies can give and get guard. We all know bleed is effective in the courtyard so it wouldn't hurt to make them like that.

Let me tell you that your overhaul is quite well done. I am impressed by the sheerful amount of stuff added.

Turning most curios into long term challenge makes it doubly harder to boot, and I love the way you make most creatures powerful./

My main gripe is that they are too powerful, especially in the higher level... and especially courtesan.
Having an ability to give your entire team another action is simply cruel, and makes your gaming experience go from ok challenging to full blown sadism. I am ok with most of the highly powerful stats, i am, but THAT is unacceptable.

It reminds me of mot from SMT3Nocturne with mot with beast eye, you know they will spam it.
