Lurking here. Burnout Revenge/Paradise both had slow down mechanics in multiplayer. It would just catch you up after the sequence. It was kind of awkward and sometimes you just fucking hit a wall, but it is possible.

Isn't that what it does now? It's essentially disabled in arcade.

Ah yes. And what I meant was the trigger not actually influencing time, not even for the person hitting the trigger. So that skipping the trigger zone becomes preferable and hitting it not a problem of continuity. Just one way of implementing it for arcade.

When I say breaking continuity, I mean that it would have to slow time down for everyone when one person hits the trigger. I'm talking in multiplayer.

Distance is about skipping. The reason this race game has more ground for a global leaderboard is because you can wall ride, thrustfloat and just find newe ways to beat the #1 on the leaderboard while in normal racing games you always have a way more easy way to reach the maximum time on a track.

Not fair but why not???

Another way to see it that skipping the trigger is just like any other skip. If you found a way around it you found a way around it... to save time. I do not see anything wrong with that.

it would, but aren't map makers responsible for their maps? I mean if they want to use slow-mo they better make sure there is no way around it or it breaks continuity. Refract could warn that whenever you try to put a future slow-mo trigger on the map.

I wouldn't hold your breath. It would break continuity unless everybody activates the trigger simultaneously. However, if you just want to give players time to read titles without slowing down, then you can just use a grav trigger and set the drag to five before restoring it. This way, car slows down without interfering with time.

There is supposed to be a Slow-Motion effect whenever you drive past a text panel so you can read it and know what achievement is coming up in front of you without loosing speed. Let's hope the Slow-Motion effect will be activated for Arcade / Multiplayer soon. (Currently just works in Level Editor.)
