Just Name Lists

Description
Features: 44 Immersive Name Lists
This mod offers new original content name lists that are thematically consistent with the base game. This is not a compilation of other mods nor a copy-paste of names from other sci-fi or fantasy settings, although I've drawn inspiration from many of them. Even the smaller lists in this mod are significantly larger than the stock options offered in Stellaris. Some are truly gargantuan with millions of possible names that may appear.

Note that randomly generated empires will only use stock name lists in Stellaris. The game will not assign one of the lists from "Just Name Lists" to a randomly generated empire without further modification, but you can certainly use them with player empires and your custom AI empires!

Compatibility: Universal
This should be inherently compatible with all DLC and all other mods.

Confirmed to support NSC2 insofar as the new ship classes introduced in NSC2 can receive names from any of the lists in Just Name Lists.

To the best of my knowledge, like other name list mods, this will change the checksum since it adds files in the /common folder. Accordingly and unfortunately, it's not achievement compatible.

I made a port for 3.12. Let me know if you have any issues as well.

I made a port of this mod that converts the name lists to 3.4's new format. Please let me know if that's not okay and I'll take it down.

any chance this includes names for ships added with NSC?

For some namelists it seems that changing %O% to $O$ fixes the name bug
MarsJenkar May 28, 2022 @ 7:18am
The format for my new sequential battle fleet format, for example, was to assign the variable [namelistID]_BATTLEFLEETxx_SEQ2, and in the localisation file, the entry was:

[namelistID]_BATTLEFLEETxx_SEQ2:0 "Battle Fleet $CC$"

I tried to add the variable directly to the name list without success. Even changing the sequence variable from the original format (%CC%) to the new format ($CC$) didn't work until I used the localisation file the way the current name list does.

So I did some experimentation with my own name list (for a mod that is private), and I suspect the reason the change was made was to make localisation simpler, since the default name lists now all contain variables that point to entries in the game's current localisation files. Sequential names were the most affected, since they apparently NEED the localisation file entries to work properly now. Basically I had to assign them a variable instead of an actual name--the variable pointing to your mod's localisation files.

Wooord. You'd think devs would let modders know about that *shakes fist at sky*. Thanks @Porkenstein and @NuclearPies

3.4 changed the format of name lists and as far as I know there's no information out there about how we can make our own with this new format... bruh moment
Porkenstein May 17, 2022 @ 5:14pm
@crimson.dolarhyde, @funny rat man said he was going to try in the star name lists mod.
