Unofficial Balance Patch

This patch might be balanced in a pure technical aspect, but stuff like embark and plantation at pottery completely destroys the simulation and thematic aspect of the game. You can manage fine before you get the required techs in the original game.

The wonder changes are good though. You hit the right spots there.

THese are great ideas. However, could you change the melee unit promotion tree? Who the ♥♥♥♥ ever uses "can go through cliffs"

deperately needs updating

Yes, -5 and +5 sounds good.
Cerkoryn  [author] Aug 28, 2017 @ 10:16pm
@Isukaci, that's actually a very good point, but it's awkward to change because one of the first promotions Anti-Cav get is a +10 bonus to Melee units, effectively eliminating the penalty entirely. I suppose it would make sense to change the penalty to -5 and change the bonus to +5 though, just to make it less dramatic.

I'm not familiar with the 8 Ages of Pace mod, I will have to look at it when I have time.

Adjacency for Theater Squares to natural wonders is a nice change, but the problem we had before when adding culture to the game is that it effectively makes the civics tree shorter. It's something we would have to test for balance.

I made a very simple mod 2 days ago, you can consider just add this mod in.
Only 3 rows code.

And I really Iike the 8 Ages of Pace, can you remove the conflict part or post a another version without conflict to "the 8 Ages of Pace"?
Isukaci☭ Aug 28, 2017 @ 6:48pm
A spear man with a sheild and spear cannot win a warrior with a wood stick? that's ridiculous.
from +10 to +5 just make them even.

Hi, this is a great mod! Well done. I have a idea, Can you down the bonus strength when Melee units vs Anti-cavalry units from 10 to 5? that makes more sense to me.
Cerkoryn  [author] Aug 18, 2017 @ 12:43am
It would most likely conflict with that mod. Depending on which mod loads first, it might cause one to overwrite the other. Or more likely just crash.
AcrossThePacific Aug 17, 2017 @ 9:54pm
If I use this mod with 8 Ages of Pace, do the road movement changes stack? Or does one overwrite the other?
Cerkoryn  [author] Aug 14, 2017 @ 11:06pm
Thanks, I agree! Glad you like it :)
AcrossThePacific Aug 14, 2017 @ 9:05pm
Cool, that makes sense! War weariness is brutal in a competitive MP game, so I like this change a lot.
Cerkoryn  [author] Aug 13, 2017 @ 11:58pm
I could definitely try to nerf embarked units, it might be a little harder to do though. As for the Martial Law card, that one gives 50%, but the earlier one still gives 25% for a maximum of 75% war weariness reduction :)
AcrossThePacific Aug 13, 2017 @ 3:24pm
Also, "Martial Law card now gives "Accumulate 50% less war weariness than usual" (up from 25%)." Since there are two of these policies, would they stack to eliminate 100% of war weariness? Is that intended?
AcrossThePacific Aug 13, 2017 @ 3:22pm
Thank you Cerkoryn for the work! "All naval melee units have a +10 combat strength bonus vs. embarked units." Is it possible to nerf embarked units instead? A land army floating across the ocean *should* get butchered by an actual navy. This change would also make naval units more relevant. Hope you consider this alternative.

i have seen what all got updated, no hurry, possible a redfinition of the UBP is needed.
Cerkoryn  [author] Jul 30, 2017 @ 2:53am
We are working on it, but this week is finals week for me(summer classes), so I haven't been able to get to it as often as I've hoped to. I'm expecting to have a lot of time next weekend, so hopefully by the end of next weekend :)
kl.borek Jul 29, 2017 @ 8:35am
When zou expect to be compatible with teh summer patch?
Cerkoryn  [author] Jul 21, 2017 @ 3:43pm
Depends. In this mod, I changed the "IGNORE_ZOC" modifier to exclude anti-cavalry units. In other words, As long as another mod uses that modifier(it probably does) then it will work. However, if there are other changes that conflict, it may cause problems. I personally haven't tried it with Even Moar Units.

No, I didn't touch the AI. I have thought about it though, as the AI drives me insane with how bad they are. I might at some point, but it might be in a separate mod.
MalikFrost Jul 21, 2017 @ 5:35am
Cerkoryn Even moar units adds units so am i right for guessing the bonus calvary units will not get these debuffs for Multiplayer/Singleplayer? and also does this mod touch anything regarding to ai? I like to add some ai in private multiplayer games.
ProfessorPicke Jul 20, 2017 @ 5:56pm
I havent tested the mod yet, but from what I know horse units are incredibly efficient to build. they only cost 80 gold, while swordsmen cost 90, and they are both of equal strength.

Personally i'd recommend increasing the cost of all horse units, and giving them the berserker effect that the vikings have.

That, and also instead of giving spearmen a policy card, just making them actually cost half as much as they do now, so that they don't even need a policy.

Yup, only need to click subscribe and then make sure that the mod is enabled under "Additional Content' at the main menu. Enjoy!
ioFlo Jul 17, 2017 @ 8:03pm
I like the changes from the patch notes, to install do i just click subscribe?
ghostbear99 Jul 17, 2017 @ 1:58pm
Gotcha. Yeah, I do not have those DLCs. Oh well.
Cerkoryn  [author] Jul 16, 2017 @ 11:48am
*DLC
Cerkoryn  [author] Jul 16, 2017 @ 11:47am
@ghostbear99, that is because you don't have the required dependancies in your Civ Database. Are you missing either the Poland or the Macedon DOC? That would do it.
ghostbear99 Jul 16, 2017 @ 8:31am
Just tried starting a new game with just this mod enabled. Screen went from the "Loading Game" screen, to a black screen that said "Start Game", then went back to the Main Menu. New game could not be created.
Cerkoryn  [author] Jul 15, 2017 @ 12:09am
@Judgeb, thank you for letting me know that. We will fix that as soon as possible. Hopefully this weekend :).
Judgeb Jul 14, 2017 @ 5:38pm
Doesnt look like the Dance of the Aurora works with Peter's Lavra ?
Cerkoryn  [author] Jul 13, 2017 @ 12:03pm
Exactly. We felt the game was lacking good incentive to build Holy Sites and the pantheons that required them were fairly garbage. We made them much better so that people have good reason to build holy sites. Worship buildings are also very strong now.
Malice Jul 13, 2017 @ 10:58am
giant earth, TSL brazil. *drools* >=))

brb. gona dump 5 hours for a "test" run lol
Malice Jul 13, 2017 @ 10:56am
ohh I see! it is tied to a holy site. interesting. making me build a holy site if I want OP culture yields w/ chicken pizza. nice :o
Cerkoryn  [author] Jul 13, 2017 @ 10:27am
That's right, Quadriremes are actually worth building now!

In regards to Sacred Path, it can be very strong in certain situations. The caveat is that a city requires a Holy Site in order to get the extra culture from its jungle tiles. You would either need a very large jungle or multiple cities with multiple Holy Sites. In practice, I find that God of the Open Sky and sometimes even Oral Tradition still give more total culture in most cases.

Chicken Pizza would add even more yield on top of that!
Malice Jul 13, 2017 @ 9:28am
so you're saying I can successfully complete "for queen and country" with quadriremes + warriors? lets gooo!

edit:

chichen itza = sacred path? seems OP? how does it work if I have both sacred path and chicken pizza?
Cerkoryn  [author] Jul 12, 2017 @ 11:00pm
Sorry for the delay, had some issues with the Steam uploader. Changelog is posted in the tab at the top.
Cerkoryn  [author] Jul 12, 2017 @ 5:42pm
Yes, I am uploading it now. Should be available any minute.
Zodraslaus Jul 12, 2017 @ 3:17pm
Is a full list of changes made by this mod availble somewhere? I like the direction this is taking but I would need more details before I could consider using it.
