Yes,you can replace it, is easy, first you need VTFEdit and GIMP or Photoshop CS3/CS5

Is there a way I can replace what's on the picture in another software? For example instead of a picture of a butterfly, I can put picture of a lizard? Thanks in advance!

ah, well, first go to the files, "Garry's Mod/garrysmod/materials/models/ianmata1998/lifeisstrange/maxinecam"
first, you need a program call VTFEdit, then press the file, you had to enter in a ".vtf" because there is the picture, don't select ".vmt", because that file is just texts and codes
well, after you select the file press "File/Export" and you can export like ".jpeg" or ".png" or ".tga" file
after that you can edit with Paint Tool SAI or Photoshop
after you edit, go to the VTFEdit, and pulse "File/Import", put "ok", don't change anything and save the file, in "File/Save as" and put the same title in the texture file, like "camara.vtf", the same name, after that go to the game files and replace the texure, press yes to all and test it

You can use it whatever you want, of course, even in your videos an even if you mod the picture model, you can use :)

Looks like it could be useful for TF2-themed stuff, specifically the photo itself. We haven't had a great polaroid picture model before.
