I was always able to sterilize my animals. So yeah, it’s part of the base game now
nako Mar 25, 2023 @ 8:41pm
@trea19 pretty sure this is part of the base game in 1.4
trea19 Feb 18, 2023 @ 6:06pm
I depended on this mod a lot during my last phase of Rimworld playing. It would be super awesome to see an update for 1.4!

Thank you, Bob Barker. I have a whole hoard of dogs and this mod saves my colonists from having to dine on puppy meat every other meal.
berandomness Dec 2, 2020 @ 6:16pm
heres hoping for a 1.2 update. @k0zm0tis, you should try updating this if you ever have the spare time.
Tyger Eyes Aug 19, 2020 @ 9:23am
Aw! Nice Mod. Look forward to update to 1.2 when you have a chance
fireglow Mar 6, 2020 @ 10:23am
Any alternative mod that supports 1.0 and 1.1?
k0zm0tis Feb 29, 2020 @ 2:50pm
From what I can tell based on my experience updating my own mods, I think this mod only needs 2 very small changes to be up to date for v 1.1. The About.xml file just needs the basic changes for 1.1 [i.e replace <targetVersion> with <supportedVersions><li>1.0</li><li>1.1</li></supportedVersions> and add the new <packageId>ModAuthor.ModName.Specific</packageId> field].
And since v1.1 makes descriptions mandatory, the HediffDefs_[Spayed|Neutered].xml just needs to have a <description>Cannot breed or some text like this.</description> field added.
If the mod author sees this, do you mind if we edit the mod locally and use it just for ourselves? Apologies if that's a dumb question, this is one of only 2 Rimworld mods I've ever downloaded from Steam (I wrote all of my other mods myself and just use them locally), so I've never actually encountered this situation before.
k0zm0tis Feb 29, 2020 @ 1:57pm
I'd really appreciate an update for 1.1 for this mod in particular. I really like that this mod just does what it says, without being super complicated. I don't want to use a mod that adds separate body parts for every reproductive organ, or ones that make humans capable of reproducing. I just want to be able to neuter some of my dogs (bc I don't want to kill them or sell them to strangers, but they just won't stop breeding). The only conflict I think it has with 1.1 (at least when I tried to load a 1.1 game with this mod, ignoring the 'not compatible' warning) is that with 1.1, all hediffs now have to have some (non-empty) description, and the 'Neutered'/'Spayed' hediff doesn't currently. Love this mod, would really love to have a compatible version!

@darthdud0 Can you un-cut your balls off?
darthdud0 Nov 19, 2019 @ 11:47pm
are you joking and if not what is the resipie for duct tape?
Bovos Nov 19, 2019 @ 11:18pm
@darthdud0 You just need some duct tap.
darthdud0 Nov 18, 2019 @ 3:42am
can you un-neuter the animal in this mod?
amiachan Sep 20, 2019 @ 5:50pm
@SlowYourRollJimmy I'm aware of how that works in real life, but this is a game, so the same rules don't always apply. I was hoping that if that was intentional, the mod creator could consider posting a warning about it since again, in video games, real life rules seldom apply.

It's a concern that only applies because it's a game. Though I suppose I could've worded it better if I wasn't half asleep at the time.
Nonno Smeraldo Sep 20, 2019 @ 1:59am
OMG didn't see the scared muffalo in the image!
Anyway, nice mod! Exactly what i was looking for, i've got too much dogs and horses running around, i've got like 5 dog for every colonist and i'm too weak to just slaughter those little doggies
*SYR*Jimmy Aug 16, 2019 @ 5:14am
@amiachan you do realize that animals produce eggs and milk as a part of the reproductive process, right? so if you neuter them.... that ability goes away

=MGC=Snowmech:

Are I pregnate?!?
k0zm0tis Mar 18, 2019 @ 12:05pm
tl;dr Your animal was probably already pregnant when you spayed her, but not far enough along for the game to notify you. If a spayed female gives birth once, it's probably what I outlined in the previous comment. If she gives birth and then gets pregnant again, then it may be a bug.
k0zm0tis Mar 18, 2019 @ 12:05pm
For those who just got a notification that a spayed animal is pregnant (you need a save from before the notification):

Turn on Dev Mode. Select the animal. Select its Health tab. To the right of the 'Overview' and 'Operations (0)' tabs, there will be two options with red X's beside them. Click the red X next to the 'AllDiffs' options.
A new condition may pop up: Whole body, Pregnant (early-stage).
The game doesn't notify you that an animal is pregnant until it's 33% along. (If you're curious how far along the animal is, keepAllDiffs selected, click the red X next to the DiffsDebugInfo, and then hover over the pregnancy condition. Look at 'Gestation progress'.) Early stage is 'hidden' and doesn't show up except in Dev Mode. If this is the case, the animal was almost certainly impregnated before you spayed them, but it was hidden, and then once it was 33% along you were notified.
k0zm0tis Mar 18, 2019 @ 12:02pm
Great mod! Works exactly as described! I had a similar issue with a spayed animal getting pregnant once and then not again, but there's a good reason, which I explained in detail in the next comment for anyone else who had this problem and wants more info/confirmation it's not necessarily a bug.
amiachan Mar 13, 2019 @ 8:02pm
Hey, I love this mod, it's every helpful, but I noticed something that's a bit of a problem. I spayed a bunch of my chickens because I only wanted some of them to breed, and to my dismay, I discovered that animals who give eggs or milk will stop giving either once spayed/neutered. Not sure if it happens with wool, but still, it's a bit frustrating that it does that, and there's no warning that I could find, either. I'd like to see it fixed, but if that's not possible, but I understand if it can't be. Regardless, could you put up a warning in the description about that in the meantime so no one else loses out on their eggs and such?

Any Hard incompatibilities?
Snowmech Dec 4, 2018 @ 1:21pm
I am having a Very wierd one, I am having Muffalos getting pregnate... all females, not a single male, and most are spayed. Took on a few new female muffalos and now the spayed ones are getting pregnate..
IronSpartan114 Nov 30, 2018 @ 8:46pm
yeah, I've had several animals show as pregnant after spay/neuter, but they stop after the first birth.
Sven Ragnaroeg Nov 22, 2018 @ 9:29am
Ok, thanks
tatsku88 Nov 21, 2018 @ 8:51am
@Sven Ragnaroeg The husky was probably already pregnant when you spayed her. The game doesn't give you the pregnancy notification until the animal has already been pregnant for a while.
Sven Ragnaroeg Nov 20, 2018 @ 9:51am
I think it doesnt work. I used it on a Husky and now teh dog is pregnant. The gender is none after the dog was spayed. Using V.1.0
Lytalm Nov 8, 2018 @ 8:00pm
Idea for a new mod : "Neuter Colonists" to avoid those jerks to hit on every female in your colony and get crazy because of the rejected debuffs? :O
KiameV Oct 26, 2018 @ 8:50pm

Will you update this mod for the 1.0 release of Rimworld? :)
KingDolphinGuy  [author] Sep 28, 2018 @ 2:50pm
@Geethebluesky Make sure you have medicine available + changed the 'allowed' medicine for that specific animal (by default the highest is herbal).
KingDolphinGuy  [author] Sep 28, 2018 @ 2:49pm
@NannyOgg It is a one time deal; just like actual neutering. I doubt I'll add the ability to reverse it. So if you want to stop your animals from breeding just for a short period time, I'd recommend physically separating them.
Geethebluesky Sep 16, 2018 @ 9:17am
Does this change how operations work at all, besides adding available operations? I'm experiencing a slowdown and trying to find which mod causes it.

I had a porcupine queued for Spaying. She sat in her box forever, with the surgeon assigned to the operation just sitting next to her box and doing absolutely nothing. The pawn seemed to be bugging out because when I deleted the operation from the porcupine's health queue, everything went back to normal.
NannyOgg Sep 11, 2018 @ 6:53am
Is this action a one time deal? Can it be reversed if I want to breed some animals in the future? I read here [ludeon.com] that it's possible. Is it implemented into this mod or will I have to try to figure out how to tweak the mod myself? I want to be able to stop all my farm animals from breeding by accident all the time, but not do anything permanent.
PokieDragon Sep 10, 2018 @ 12:00pm
Wait, I just read about the preg debuff showing up later. I must have done the operation between breeding and pregnancy. I'll watch!
PokieDragon Sep 10, 2018 @ 2:30am
My wild boars are still getting pregnant and having babies after spaying. They show up on my animal list as just the plain circle, and they show spayed in the health tab, but STILL BABIES. BABIES ABOUND.
jose.faunon Sep 4, 2018 @ 9:30am
Please, can you leave a b18 version?
wejrd Sep 1, 2018 @ 1:58am

This mod saves so many caravans and other problems when managing animals, hopefully it will see an update. Thanks for the time and effort you do for us. I know your mod has saved me tons of time and effort playing.

Also you save the lives of many rim world animals, its either i neuter them or kill them as two areas to manage animals is too costy or difficult alot of the times when keeping them seperate.

Save the animals, even if you have to neuter them!
