Ammendment: i dont think city states or free cities trigger it either. I think it has to be a major civ. I can't confirm since I dont do multiplayer, but I assume a human player discovering it wont crash the game (unless they have a military alliance with a computer civ)

Unicorn, I found out why he does that. When you make a change that has the warning it will crash later, it actually crashes when a non-barbarian civ first discovers it. If youve made any changes like that in your border, then when you hit Military Alliance Lvl 2 (which shares your visibility), it crashes.

even on massive it crashes for me but when I conquer a city, not always though. It hangs a lot every time I do it.

I keep getting penned in on gigantic but theres only like.. 11 other civs. There is so much open space but I was playing as Rome just now and Sparta spawned not even 3 cities worth of tiles away

Since the Colossal map slightly exceeds the limit of the game, so we can play with the gigantic map...
Can you update this mod with a larger map than gantesca and a little smaller than colossal so as not to exceed the limits of the game?

@Legowolf "Ever since Gathering Storm, there is a good chance that the "reveal the map" bonus from Launching the Earth Satellite will cause games using the big map sizes to completely crash. Please subscribe to my mod Disable Satellite Map Reveal to prevent this issue."

@FireFoxxGaming I would suggest using a mod to stop the satellite revealing as it will cause crashes almost every time

Definitely a problem with the amount of strategic resources that spawn on the bigger map sizes. Nobody basically has anything except for the lucky few.

None of the maps are showing up as options in the map size dropdown menu.

there is still an issue with gigantic map size too now, before we were having the crash size with colossus and so we saw the message here saying to try smaller maps, still having the same issue when we hit the satellite launch, perhaps this mod is just time to go to the side :steamthumbsdown:

Just played a game using colossal map to turn 305 with over 150 cities and 107 active trade routes from my capital with 100+ units on auto explore before the game finally crashed due to tiles flooding. Unfortunate but as long as you don't drag the game on forever its not a huge deal. Will be playing on gigantic next though.

btw this works on the mobile edition too haha i just pulled it into my phone. i changed the size of collossal map to 18x42 world wrap. much smaller and easier for like a 2 man or one city challenge or somethin.

Gigantic is the max you can use. I found out that apparently after the last updates this game had it broke almost any form of map over a certain limit. The Gigantic 144x90 is pretty close tot hat limit but dosent hit it . Colossal is just over the limit so is a no go.

Can you fix this mod regarding the Colossal map?
because I would like to play with that map but it's the only one that makes a mistake at some point in the game.
Civ6 would be awesome if you unlock the COLOSSAL map.

Damn, I always used to use this mod. Coming back to not really having any good options for map sizes sucks. Is Civ6 that much worse to mod? Feels likeCiv5 has way more in depth mods.

@maxshaft When you subscribe on workshop it should get automatically downloaded. Check additional content -> Mods in Civ 6 menu. If it's not there, check bottom of Steam window to see your downloads and find workshop contet.

If this mod is used with the Truly Abundant mod and the resource abundance is set to "truly abundant", it seems to cause an abnormal generation of strategic resources. In a Gigantic-sized continent map, there are less than 10 units of aluminum and uranium, and around 10 units of horses, iron, and niter across the entire map.

Massive works fine for me, so long as I am using 24 or fewer Civs.

urmomsboxeater its a crash due to the games limitations. It happens once ever 10 to 15 turns for me. just try to reload the saves. Gigantic difficulty does not work Eightball. most large map mods have been crashing for years now. To everyone else ...... ITS BEEN 4 F#$%^&* YEARS THIS ISN'T GETTING AN UPDATE. READ

Hey just wanted to let you know that since the last leader pack dropped I am unable to get this mod to to work. Any time I try to use it the game crash's and says mod failed to load .

It WAS working until now. OK, I just started another civ(Egypt on colossal) and it refused to start giving the "One or more mods couldn't load..." dialog.

I then disable all user created mods and then start enabling them in blocks and hit "Play now" and the game always can start until the whole list has been completed.

Then I go back to attempting on colossal and BAM. There the problem is.

I repeat the process of disabling and then block enabling and again- it narrows down to this. It had worked well(but could not work with YANMP)

Has there been some update that causes a new conflict perhaps?

Either way, please look into it!

In my case, circumnavigation in combination with shared visibility with an ally, crashed the game beyond redemption. This event doesn't even affect the whole map (it affected like 75% of the maps visibility). So I guess if I wasn't allied with anyone, I could continue the game until the inevitable crash of Global Warming or Satellites.

So.. I will try a new game, but on Gigantic instead.

I will also install a mod which deletes the flooding effect from the game (the mod which stops satellites from revealing the map is already installed).


Hopefully it wont crash. Will report here.

Ok people... Please do read the fat text. If you have a super pc (like I have), playing on colossal map is not a problem. It goes smooth and stable, with an x amount of other mods active with it.

BUT... precisely as described... when you get to experience events that effect the whole world, your game WILL CRASH and NOT RECOVER. Doesnt matter how strong your pc is.

You will get a typical EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION message. And thats it. Nothing you can do. Your game ends here.

These events (may) trigger it (some will definitely):

1. Circumnavigation (when allied with someone and during the event, you suddenly share visibility),

2. Alliance visibility (with more than 1 ally, revealing much of the map),

3. Global Warming, and the flooding of tiles (absolute 100% crash beyond redemption),

4. Satellites reveal the whole world (absolute 100% crash beyond redemption).

I agree, because it's completely stupid not to be able to play on a giant map with all the civilizations! They are available in addition, it seems to me that the planet where we live all the civilizations are available

Broke the game for me, sadly.
I've been using it for years without issue and recently (game update) a few mods break it for me. Thank you for this great mod, I wish Fireaxis made this kind of thing default and solved the crash issue due to size/assets limits.

Unfortunately, even Massive crashes now. It happens early, most often in map generation.
