Steam is weird. It sends me notifications about mods that I have no relation to. Then it lists your mod on top for pike searches.

...Thanks? You guys know I'm a complete amateur and did this over 4 years ago, right? I kinda forgot this existed. It does what it says in the description, gives a buff to pike units. That's it. It's not to fix pikes, if that is even possible on the engine. It's just to make them better, because before I thought they kind of sucked. This was pretty much about all I learned to do. I have no skill and no longer any interest in modding this game, so complaining is kind of pointless.

Wait a minute... litteShepherd, you already complained about it 2 years ago. I don't think I've even looked at it since then, and I haven't tried to mod anymore. It kind of seems like you just commented to advertise your mod for some reason, but little do you know that this 4 and a half year old mod is probably so far back in workshop that whoever is looking will probably find yours first anyways.

Here is how to make a pike mod: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2071859023 . Fix the effects and the weapons but don't touch the land_units. Pikes do very well in Attila when not flanked.
Spychicken  [author] Jun 5, 2021 @ 2:20pm
Nah, they’re pretty garbage. I haven’t played in a while, but they used to get beat from frontal attacks.
Fly_Squirrell Jun 4, 2021 @ 4:59pm
Pikes that are already OP as frik getting another buff:

Sorry this mod doesn’t do what you want. It was my first mod, and I still don’t know what I’m doing. By the way, asking for “anybody” won’t get you anywhere since no one visits this page. I’m sorry to say, but pikes in Attila are busted beyond fixing. No one cares enough to mod it, and it is more of a structural problem as opposed to stats. If you want pikes, I advise Divide Et Impera or something like that in Rome 2.
Sheph Jul 17, 2018 @ 4:25pm
This is not how to mod pikes- adding the entire land units table. Every player has their own land units table that this overwrites. Does anyone know a good mod that revamps pikes.
BoboMaximus Jan 12, 2017 @ 1:25pm
The stats in Vanilla are so silly makes the game totaly inbalanced so all the stats had to be changed
BoboMaximus Jan 12, 2017 @ 1:17pm
if you changes the stats one unit you have to re-balance them all . Units have to counter other units. Theres a pictrue of a currt battle summeray using pikes and the new stats
Spychicken  [author] Jan 12, 2017 @ 12:54pm
The only problem I have is that it makes changes to other parts of combat.

Pikes have affect defense and cav Dmg bounses, and Moral chnages
BoboMaximus Jan 12, 2017 @ 12:49pm
@ Spychicken did you my mod yet?
Spychicken  [author] Jan 12, 2017 @ 12:46pm
Of course. Sending pikes in without support on the flanks is suicide. But unfortunately in Attila, just about any decent unit can walk through a pike. They are supposed to be extremely difficult to kill from the from while being able to hold off enemy units. But they can't even do that. I haven't gotten to use my mod much due to compatibility problems either.
BoboMaximus Jan 12, 2017 @ 11:54am
@Spychicken yes you can Attack i never said you couldnt but. The AI will take advange of a unsecured flank or Behind. you need to keep fast Cavary in the flanks aand rear to cover them.
BoboMaximus Jan 12, 2017 @ 11:34am
@Spychicken The AI is carless all the time LOL
Spychicken  [author] Jan 12, 2017 @ 11:14am
In later history pikes were primarily defensive, used to ward off cavalry so that guns could be used effectively.
Spychicken  [author] Jan 12, 2017 @ 11:12am
Pikes are offensive in a way, they were meant to be thrust. Nobody is careless enough to charge recklessly into pikes, even heavy cavalry. Most pike formations worked in a similar way to Hoplite, which is continually moving forward and to be invincible from the front.
BoboMaximus Jan 11, 2017 @ 11:50am
@chiconspiracy toue theory is 700 years off!!:steammocking:
BoboMaximus Jan 11, 2017 @ 11:44am
@chiconspiracy so you saying that Hoplites were just as moble as The Romans? The Scottish shiltrons, Swiss Mercenaries, Landschneckts and Tercios All later forms of Pike that were not in the Time period Attla. Evently Spears were replace with Heavy Pikes and the Pikes themselfs were Different. Some Pikes later had a Axe on top to chop Invrantry. Heavery armor aloud pikes to take more Arrow fire. BUT none this was almost 700 years later from the Time of Attlia.
BoboMaximus Jan 11, 2017 @ 11:35am
"we have medeival pike drill manuals showing how to THRUST with pikes" Can tou show mw the drill manuals?
Please explain how a 175-200 LBs Man can hold the force of a 1100 - 2000 LBs Horse at Full Speed?
chiconspiracy Jan 3, 2017 @ 11:19pm
@robo.parks Completely wrong. Pikes were used OFFENSIVELY to kill enemy infantry, not just harmlessly poke them. Period sources tell of the Macedonian style pike phalanx defeating Roman armor... you don't do that by bracing or passivly holding it. Furthermore, we have medeival pike drill manuals showing how to THRUST with pikes, not just helplessly hold them or put them in the ground. The Scottish shiltrons, Swiss Mercenaries, Landschneckts and Tercios didn't just put their pikes in the ground like that idiotic movie Braveheart showed.. they advanced at the enemy and STABBED them to death if they didn't get out of the way. To suggest the Macedonian style phalanx was incapable of thrusting is extremely ignorant.
Spychicken  [author] Jan 1, 2017 @ 7:58pm
Good! I will make sure to subscribe to your mod.
BoboMaximus Jan 1, 2017 @ 7:53pm
@Spychicken I Im. Pikes now will at lest Kill the Horses charging into them They cant hold them But at lest there some sort of realism . In Vanilla The pikes are insta routed and never kill a horse I got realy sick of that LOL. Im doing clean up on it and some final balance issue with Missles.
HK_Sensei Jan 1, 2017 @ 7:49pm
I believe the way to implement what is effectively "first strike" rules for pikes would be to change the weapon range stat. Whenever an enemy body enters that range, the units rolls a melee attack. Since pikes are longer, there can be zones of overlap where a single unit would trigger attacks from all pikes within range. TuskMod had an alteration to melee weapon range, so you could look there.
Spychicken  [author] Jan 1, 2017 @ 7:35pm
robo.parks, you should make a mod that does that. I could create a mod like that, but as noted earlier it won't be compatible with some other unit mods and I can't fix that.
BoboMaximus Jan 1, 2017 @ 5:43pm
A better stat is 3-5 ATK (Why so low because of the lack of Moblity)
DMG 3 Base( 2AP)--- Then 17 aginst Cav Moral ave 35-40 depending on the Tier.
There Defesne Stat comes from Armor or Shiled or Both only Since the Pike is stationary . There Flanks are expose and they take longer to trun if attack from the rear. Thats why romans were able to beat the Greeks . The Romans Flanked and Atk Hoplites from the rear. Later when Long swords were used Like the Germans use Longswordmen to break up Pike formation. These are military facts. And in the Age of Attla Pikes were light. Later in the middle ages they become Heay Infratry as Armys became more Calvery focus and horses got Heavy and startedweraing Armor (The Horse it self Hence Mailed Knights. Or Norman Nights armored there Horses as well. Thats Eastern Idea though to Armor the horse that were the Normans got it from.
BoboMaximus Jan 1, 2017 @ 5:28pm
@chiconspiracy Pikes can only be in a Stationary position to hold and take the brute force of a 1 ton horse(Avrage Horse 1100 LBS.) . You cant stab with a pike like you can a spear . A Pike formation can be easly broken with Longsordmen. And pikes are extremely vunable to Arrows.
Spychicken  [author] Jan 1, 2017 @ 3:11pm
Sorry for the compatibility issues. I have had the same issue for my Rome 2 mos. If anyone does know how to make it compatible with other mods that would be great.
Spychicken  [author] Jan 1, 2017 @ 3:08pm
I am just a beginner in modding, so I don't know how to change first strike. All I wanted to do was improve the combat abilities of pikes. I use other mods that improve the Germanic noble horseman and taifali cavalry, so I might make a mod that includes this changes so it doesn't conflict.
chiconspiracy Dec 31, 2016 @ 7:23pm
@robo.parks pikes in this game are ridiculous compared to what they could do in real life. A two handed pike dealing less damage than a one handed spear or sword? Laughable. In real life, pikes were highly effective against infantry, and didn't just pin them in place to harmlessly poke at them. This mod at least does something to address that.
BoboMaximus Dec 31, 2016 @ 1:26pm
The mod should run with Campain mods that dont chage unit stats. Running it with other combat Mods you will have issues
BoboMaximus Dec 31, 2016 @ 1:25pm
Instead of an Attck increase you could have just given then 1st Strike stat . The Length of the Pike gives them that advange. Also Stat agindt Cav. Think about what kind of skill does it take to carry a Pike (None) Incressing the Attack only disbalances combat.
Spychicken  [author] Dec 29, 2016 @ 6:43pm
If anyone could help me make this compatible with other mods, that would be a big help.
