Hello there! Love finding these old mods too.. Archaeology one day at a time baybee!

Hello to.. Idk.. 2030? Only six years, can't be too much of a stretch I hope! 2050 here we come? Rimworld and Dwarf Fortress will simulate more than the known universe! Amazing...

Going through the workshop as a new player and finding these is like finding a fossil of the missing link

Anyone looking for a B19 / 1.0 equivelant to this mod you can check mine out: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1501052499

Note that if Dragoon_103 returns and requests my mod to be taken down, I'll happily do so. This will hopefully get everyone by until that happens. :)

I don't know of any alternatives! If nobody else wants to tackle the task I can have a replacement mod uploaded in a day or so. Most of the issues are because this mod doesn't use patches (Mod was created before they were introduced / widely used I think) so the changes to animal skins / leather is breaking it.

If there is an alternaitve / someone is already working on this though, I'll leave it be! :)

While it worked perfectly in B18, it definitely doesn't B19. Are there any plans to update this mod, or, if that's the not the case, does anyone know of a good alternative?

b18?
Flesh Forge Dec 27, 2017 @ 4:59am
Note you don't need to edit anything, this works exactly as is, it just shows up red in the mod list.

I tested the mod today and can confirm it works, though I edited the "About" file in the mod folder to set it to the current build. Update the "target version" in the "About" file from 17.1557 to 18.1722 and it should work fine. I'm not sure if it works without doing this.
Hari Seldon Dec 4, 2017 @ 2:31pm
Anyone tested this mod? Does this work with B18 even without update? Thanks.
Fulgrim ツ Nov 19, 2017 @ 8:45am
Update to Beta18 plz :-)
Tyler Nov 19, 2017 @ 8:35am
What about B18 update?
Immortalits Jul 6, 2017 @ 1:21am
I just can't get why is a thrumbo worse as a pack animal, than a dromedary, while it's the largest animal in the whole game (490 meat ammount, 245 kg for wild ones)
Anvil Pants Jul 2, 2017 @ 11:06am
Only explanation for that is that "carry capacity" stat is ignored in caravan carry weight. Annoying, but unsurprising. Character sheet should matter. Think you'd find that carry capacity does change number of items a pawn will haul in one go.
Jagroy Jul 2, 2017 @ 11:02am
so i force tamed the thrumbos, and even trained one to full hauling, and there was no difference between them, either due to injurys or hauling training. they both carry 123kg. just wondering how this is supposed to work. one had injuries, and had about 400 less carry capacity, but they both hauled the same as a caravan animal.

i suppose my question breaks down to this: can you add a line in the info page for the creatures that tells the caravan weight, maybe in the description of wether an animal can be used as a pack animal or not?

or am i missing something? is the info page pounds, and the caravan page is kg? are there other factors that i am just not seeing?
Anvil Pants Jul 2, 2017 @ 9:22am
@Jagroy, mod thumbnail is a screenshot of the form caravan screen. An individual animal's carry capacity will be in their character sheet under "Basics"; click the "i" icon where it appears beside names. Carry capacity is not decided by species alone. Health is a factor.
Jagroy Jul 2, 2017 @ 9:15am
so is there somewhere i can see the weights of the animals before i buy or tame them? the pic you have shows a thrumbo having less weight than a rhino? i have 2 thrumbs i was going to tame, but not if i can just wait for rhino babies
Anvil Pants Jul 1, 2017 @ 10:45am
horns deep
Anvil Pants Jul 1, 2017 @ 5:27am
All pack animals are dangerous to the untrained or careless. An ox can gore you the same as a cow bull. A horse may crush your foot if you scare or anger it.

Ibex are wild goats that have not been domesticated nor had their breeding interfered with intentionally by humans. Goats are pack animals. Their horns are a complication, not a forbiddance.

The horn configuration and length of the Ibex Asscratchanus is not found in all ibex. You've found one variety of ibex.
If you want to argue muh immersions for pack goats, then go argue with the goat nerds at http://www.packgoatcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=69

While you're there, do include the context of science fiction western in the premise.
"The" SeanMacLeod Jun 30, 2017 @ 6:13pm
It's not the digging, it's the horn length [=8 Those things can be dangerous!
Anvil Pants Jun 30, 2017 @ 7:15am
A bit of gold digging isn't stopping him from having a pack strapped on.
Anvil Pants Jun 29, 2017 @ 5:07pm
Reindeer are pack animals. Why not ibex?
Tanelorn Jun 28, 2017 @ 8:47pm
We really need the alpacas to be pack animals as well. Please consider that. Possible Ibex as well.
Thorbane Jun 27, 2017 @ 1:18am
I've made an XML patch to replace the current def overwrite. Just remove the Defs folder from the mod and drop this in it's place. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/av6wwlrmy2etw06/AADyReBylgd1rZqxnp-IidhKa?dl=0

Also a forum post or a github repo would be awesome.

Pack boars! Pork Chop Express!
The Last Helldiver™ Jun 9, 2017 @ 7:27pm
@Dragoon_103 Hey there. Loving this mod so far and i've had a great time using it, however i've been using it as staple to build additions to the game myself. Currently struggling trying to get the animal packs to show up on the new "animal" i've created. So far using your mod as an example i've managed to get it to become a pack animal, carry stuff, fully trainable, but whenever i set out on a caravan, it turns into a giant purple square.

Help with this would be greatly appreciated :)

Shouldn't elephants and rhinoceroses be able to graze?
Kvothe214 Jun 8, 2017 @ 5:42pm
ok so I just made my caravan had plenty of food, 1 member goes berserk and other starts wandering, now my food supply isn't looking food, is this due to the group's afflictions?

ORR

could it be that the estimated amount of food needed to arrive at the destination wasn't calculating the animals I had traveling with me (elephant and rhinoceros)
Omega13 Jun 7, 2017 @ 10:36pm
Any possibility of caribou in the mix? Reindeer make pretty badass pack animals irl.
CrauS May 31, 2017 @ 8:10pm
Hi, ty for this awesome mod. Can u add an external download like Github/dropbox? a post in ludeon forums should be great to share this mod too.
DocB83 May 30, 2017 @ 11:04pm
Do you have the A16 version for DL?
Ogodai May 30, 2017 @ 7:07pm
@Omega13 right behind you
Omega13 May 29, 2017 @ 3:25pm
Glad to see this one updated. Can anyone confirme/deny whether the vanilla bug where caravans will not sell animals that can carry cargo still persists in A17? It wasn't a dealbreaker by any means but it was certainly a little annoying.
Dragoon_103  [author] May 28, 2017 @ 3:01pm
Just updated it to A17, not sure if the old version still would have worked but because the animal defs have changed a bit it wont work on any older versions of Rimworld.

Also keep in mind I originally made this mod for myself and its also fairly minor so expect me not to bother with either updating the mod or wanting to add any more things when a new version of rimworld comes out.

And if someone does want to update it for whatever reason if I either don't or if you want to add your own animals you can use what I have to make your own and stuff and I don't care if you decide to upload it or anything. Think of it as free reign, after all, I bascially did not do really anything to warent me saying you cant.

Under the <race> section in the def just add <packAnimal>true</packAnimal> to it after you copy the original def of the specific animal you either want to add or update. For the bag textures just follow what I already have as a template and you should be good to go.
Alex w May 27, 2017 @ 12:49pm
does it work with a17?
Seriously Unserious May 27, 2017 @ 10:00am

A17 Update? :)
Gina Apr 5, 2017 @ 6:13am
Awesome mod! Hope they'll add this to vanilla! Can megasloths also be added as packanimals? ^^
robottoast Apr 1, 2017 @ 10:48am
Could you add the big ground sloths? I was suprised they were so big but couldn't haul!
neomedes Mar 30, 2017 @ 4:40am
I found a youtuber use this mod, but I play the non-steam version. is there a link to download a non-steam version of this mod?
Summer Melon Mar 29, 2017 @ 5:44am

Bludragon Mar 11, 2017 @ 1:23pm
ok so, i keep seeing stuff about llamas, but all i have seen ingame are alpacas. are there llamas ingame too?
james76543 Mar 11, 2017 @ 10:37am
No pack llamas? Please add pack llamas :)
Bludragon Mar 6, 2017 @ 12:36am

Starfoth The Burgundy Silk Rug Feb 25, 2017 @ 8:34am
Oh, didn't know that. Thanks
Omega13 Feb 25, 2017 @ 6:26am
Starfoth: Dromedaries can already be pack animals in vanilla, along with muffalo.
Starfoth The Burgundy Silk Rug Feb 19, 2017 @ 2:46pm
What about Camels:TM:?
Tanelorn Feb 15, 2017 @ 12:09am
Definitely need Alpacas in this list.
Red Shirt Feb 13, 2017 @ 9:07am
Not certain if you are fond of certain/different suggestions on what to packify next, one creature I would request to be able carry things in a Caravan would be the "Megasloth" In my opinion it seems a bit logical for the megasloths to be packified, then again I am not exactly known to be extremely logical
