I've noticed that Forsworn Armor isn't able to be improved through this yet, any way that can be added to the list? also I'm not sure if Studded Leather was either. I don't mind not using that one personally. just thought it might be worth bringing up.
Overall, great Mod! I'm very happy with it.

Ordinator-Perks of Skyrim...
changes all of the skill trees so im guessing it wont... will try this though if i go back to vanilla based skills
Lorebot  [author] Nov 24, 2019 @ 12:08pm
I don't know what Ordinator is, but if it changes the smithing skill tree it could cause some conflicts
Brother Phobos Nov 24, 2019 @ 5:59am
doesthis work with ordinator?
PintoLordOfBeans Dec 19, 2018 @ 2:50am
Thank you for the information. Now I don't have to worry about bugging out my smithing tree.
Lorebot  [author] Dec 18, 2018 @ 3:57am
after lookin at No Perks Required it does say it's not compatible with mods the change the perk trees. I'm guessing it removes the perk requirements by altering all the trees, so using the two mods together would get you all the non-perk changes from Improved Smithing either way, but if you load NPR first you'd end up not getting the changes that allow you to pick perks without requirements in the Smithing tree. If you load Improved Smithing first you wouldn't be able to get the Improved Smithing perk without console commands
Lorebot  [author] Dec 18, 2018 @ 3:50am
@MasterChef I'm not familiar with that mod so I can't really advise you on that.
PintoLordOfBeans Dec 18, 2018 @ 12:18am
I have the No Required Perks mod, will that affect how this mod works? If so, should this go before or after the No Required Perks mod? (if they even conflict at all)
Electric_Mind308 Mar 25, 2018 @ 1:33pm
Nevermind i checked the comments. i just thought the weapon was more powerful than that
Electric_Mind308 Mar 25, 2018 @ 1:24pm
@Lorebot i believe you forgot the Ghostblade
Bersaglieri Nov 6, 2017 @ 10:25am
Well consider this. The Orcish weapons are weaker than Dwarven and only about a point higher than steal. This also means Elven is Vastly superior, nevermind glass. I think the stats of Dwarven weapons and Orcish weapons should have the same stats. That's what I was getting at. For a race with Renowned Blacksmiths it makes little sense to me that their weapons are subpar. Stinks because I like their axes and maces, and love the way their bows look.
Lorebot  [author] Nov 5, 2017 @ 1:46am
@Bersaglieri Improved Smithing doesn't change anythinga bout Orcish weapons or armor. I'm not sure why you would consider them 'trash' but most of the weapons and armors have about the same stats all else being equal. Orcish gear is part of the Heavy side of weapons and armor, so they tend to be heavier to wear and use, but their stats for damage and defense aren't far off of anything else in the game and are better than most stuff. There is an armor cap in the game and once you hit that cap any armor over the cap is doing nothing for you. Weapons usually aren't more than a few points different in damage and by the end of the game it's barely noticeable so you can use whatever you want and still be effective.
Bersaglieri Nov 5, 2017 @ 12:57am
Does this mod also fix the trash stats of Orchish Weapons? Never got why someone so high up on the skill tree had such weak weapons. I would love to rock all Orcish gear on my Orc Warrior.
Hessy Oct 27, 2017 @ 3:06pm
it's still doing this
also there is two recipes for each kind of imperial armor
Hessy Oct 27, 2017 @ 2:17pm
@ Lorebot
ok I will check thanks
great mod
Lorebot  [author] Oct 27, 2017 @ 2:13pm
@tendies I checked my notes and I'm pretty sure that I never did anything to the Imperial Bow with this mod. It's been a long time since I've done anything with this mod so I'm not certain, but I'm pretty sure that the Imperial Bow was already flagged as Steel and I didn't have to do anything to fix it. Improved Smithing doesn't change anything about Steel Smithing so I would suggest looking for other mods that may be causing this affect.
Hessy Oct 27, 2017 @ 1:51pm
I think something is wrong with the Imperial Bow in this mod...
I'll smith my Steel Sword after getting the Steel Smithing perk, and it will be Superior quality. but then I smith the Imperial Bow and it is Exquisite quality. and so on, eventually with max skill the Imperial Bow becomes super overpowered even without using potions or enchanting to boost smithing skill. please fix this
G-man III Feb 1, 2017 @ 8:44pm
Alright, thanks.
Lorebot  [author] Feb 1, 2017 @ 7:38pm
@G-man, I know they're improvable in my games, but that may be because of one of the other mods I use. It's been ages since I've actually done any work on this mod (almost 3 years!) so I couldn't tell you if it's because of mine or not. I'll see if I can find the time to load up the mod files and see if it's in there, if not I'll see about adding it.
G-man III Feb 1, 2017 @ 5:04pm
Could you make it so that you can also improve the woodcutter's axe and the pickaxe? It always seemed weird that you can use them as weapons but not improve them.
Xisis Nov 29, 2016 @ 7:37pm
the code for the Improved Smithing perk is going to be **000D62 where ** is the position of Improved Smithing in your load order... I did the dirty work for us :^)
Lorebot  [author] Nov 29, 2016 @ 12:24pm
@Xisis, there is a console command you can use to add the Improved Smithing perk even if it's not appearing on the perk tree. I know I've posted it in the past here in the comments, but I couldn't tell you what page to look at for it.
Xisis Nov 29, 2016 @ 11:01am
And i also have like 15 armor mods installed too but they add crafts dont know if that causeing any problems
Xisis Nov 29, 2016 @ 10:59am
Might be the mod "skyrim x5" that is conflecting with it then
Lorebot  [author] Nov 29, 2016 @ 10:25am
@Xisis, you shouldn't need to start a new game for this to work, but if you have any other mods that alter the smithing perk tree they will conflict with this mod and the one loaded lower in the order will have priority. If no other mods affect the smithing perk tree then double check that the mod is enabled, just downloading the mod isn't enough to make it effect your game.
Xisis Nov 29, 2016 @ 5:14am
do i need to start a new person for this mod to work as i have it installed but cant find the perc
Kul Gein Ul Nov 5, 2016 @ 10:52am
Well, then I hope you get help from the community for languages patches, so everyone can enjoy it. And forgot to mention the mod is just perfect
Lorebot  [author] Nov 5, 2016 @ 7:39am
@Kul Gein Ul, the only way to fix that would be to make a language patch for the mod that changed all the weapon names to the language you want. Sadly English is the only language I know fluently so I have no way to make language patches myself.
Kul Gein Ul Nov 5, 2016 @ 5:09am
This mod has an issue for all non-english players. It's perk name and description are in english (although it doesn't matter too much to me), but it also change all affected items' name to english version, and that annoys me. So, is there any way the items' name to get back to my language?
Lorebot  [author] Sep 19, 2016 @ 12:58am
@♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥!, without knowing what mods and what stats/perks you're using I can't give you a definitive answer to you comment, but the mod doesn't allow iron to be improved more than dwarven. If you've got Dwarven Smithing it should allow you to improve dwarven armor to a greater value than you can iron with Improved Smithing. If you're seeing other results then I would guess that it's some other mod or effect that's responsible.
Muad'Dib Sep 18, 2016 @ 3:41pm
Seems like there is an issue for me with how high the upgraded stats are. I've got Ancient Knowledge (from Avanchanzel lexicon quest) which boosts Dwarven armour stats, but even so, Iron armour still beats it (both are legendary). Don't get me wrong, I love this mod since I like the aesthetic of iron armour, but it shouldn't be right that somehow iron can be improved better than Dwarven.
Agent Coxack Mar 15, 2016 @ 6:22am
@Lorebot That's a good idea. I couldn't remember the name, but it was obvious once I found it again :). I've already used the heck out of it, making my old Leather Armour no longer useless! :solitude: For the Empire.
Lorebot  [author] Mar 15, 2016 @ 3:29am
@Coxack, thanks for the comment. Sorry it took you a while to find the mod again, it's pretty old and hasn't been on the front page of the workshop in ages now. I'd recommend favoriting it as well as subscribing so you can find it again even if you uninstall it :)
Agent Coxack Mar 14, 2016 @ 1:20pm
Took me ages to find this mod so my mate and I can replay the game at 110% again. I've used it before, and it's really cool.
Druid Oct 6, 2015 @ 5:31pm
oh thanks, i asked because i saw a massive amount of smithing level during smithing, so it's only because ebony stuff gives a lot of smithing experience
Lorebot  [author] Oct 6, 2015 @ 5:19pm
@Druid, this mod doesn't change anything about how quickly your Smithing skill will increase.
Druid Oct 6, 2015 @ 10:29am
does this mod improve smithing level faster?
Lorebot  [author] Sep 19, 2015 @ 9:41pm
@Zodiac011, while you are correct that anything can be tempered to legendary status even without perk effects there's a big difference between a 160dam ebony sword and a 90dam iron sword even though they'll both qualify for 'legendary' status.
John Soldier Sep 19, 2015 @ 8:53pm
You can just use armor items like gauntlets, rings and neckless' or even the blacksmith potions and you can make anything legendary. i made my nightingale armor and weapons and a spellbreaker legendary using this method. im not sure how high your smithing has to be for it to work but mine was at 95
Lorebot  [author] Jul 23, 2015 @ 10:47pm
@Jon, I'm pretty sure that dagger already has a tempering recipe in the game. I know I've tempered it in my own games, but I play with a bunch of other mods too so maybe one of them added the recipe if it's not there?
Something Witty Jul 23, 2015 @ 8:50pm
Does this mod let you improve a dragon priest dagger?
Lorebot  [author] Jul 8, 2015 @ 4:20pm
@Fox I'm not 100% certain, but my understanding of the system is that Tempering an item provides a % bonus based on your Smithing skill value. I believe that at 100 smithing you'll get a 100% bonus to the base value of the item (ie it's doubled), if the item's material is included in a Smithing perk that bonus is doubled (ie it goes from 100% to 200%, so you end up with triple the base value). Increasing your Smithing skill beyond 100 via potions and enchantments can have a great effect on the process too since it's increasing the bonus before it's doubled by any Smithing Perks. At 200 Smithing I think you get a 200% bonus, once a material perk is applied that doubles to a 400% bonus (ie the item becomes 5x the base value).
Muad'Dib Jul 8, 2015 @ 6:31am
Just a question, say I have a mod that changes the weapon damage stats, will this mean that your mod will not give my iron sword a damage value when tempered that is adjusted to my mod? Meaning that upgrading gives a fixed damage value rather than adding to the base damage value?
Heavy Stalker May 14, 2015 @ 8:51pm
Falmer armor is now the strongest armor gj man
steve220 Apr 28, 2015 @ 2:30pm
I like this. I was wearing Banded Iron Armor (superior) just because I like the look but after a tough fight, I upgraded to Steel and the difference was not hugely dramatic, which means you really narrowed the gap for the lower armors. Well done.
Lorebot  [author] Mar 22, 2015 @ 7:52pm
@Soulgriffon remember that if you're using any other mod that alters the Smithing perk tree you'll need to make sure that other mod loads later in the load order and then use the console code to give yourself the Improve Smithing perk if you want it. Or load the game with Improved Smithing lower and purchase the perk on level up and then move Improved Smithing above the other mod in the load order so its changes take over. You'll get to keep the perk even if it's not on the perk tree as long as Improved Smithing is loaded.
Hinter Knight Mar 22, 2015 @ 7:47pm
Oh ok, Im also throwing in a heavy armor and light armor tree mod so i still hit the armor cap in the end.
Lorebot  [author] Mar 22, 2015 @ 7:45pm
@Soulgriffon of course they will, the Improved Smithing perk merely narrows the gap and helps some of the unique items that aren't made of higher level materials stand up better over time. I'm not trying to make leather better than elven or glass armors, I'm just trying to make the difference between them not as drastic and allow light armors to perform better at lower levels so that players that want to use them aren't at such a significant disadvantage before getting the Elven armor perk if they're chosing to be Smithing focused.
Hinter Knight Mar 22, 2015 @ 7:12pm
wont the higher level armors still surpass the basic ones though?.
burningdash Feb 25, 2015 @ 9:14pm
Heres a bit of advice ive used many times when you have conflicting perk mods, put the one you want to use first, get the perk, than change the load order and have the scond one you want to use infront of it in the load order. You will keep the perk it will just be invisable.
