Thank you so much for this mod! Still works today just tried it. Love me some armored Legionaries!
Amaranthen Dec 13, 2023 @ 10:27am
@RebelSchutze, thank you cheers.

Your mod is the only one in the Workshop with stylistically identical unit cards and relatively small size.

You will receive attribution and original credit for my modifications.

@Amaranthen that's no problem

Hello, may I make my own modifications to this mod?
Kuronoshi209 Mar 15, 2020 @ 4:14am
Hello, great modder, any chance you can add the raider trait to the units?
Scorch Jan 15, 2020 @ 4:05pm

CA, GIVE ME BACK MY LEGIONS!
ThePrussianPropagandist Mar 16, 2019 @ 7:09am
The units don't seem to be recruitable by the ERE, both in campaign and custom battles. Any chance you could make them available for the Eastern Romans?
Cameron Parris Feb 25, 2019 @ 5:48am
Brilliant dear boy, simply brilliant.
A Gentleman Thug Sep 23, 2018 @ 4:39am
any chance of an update that actually makes this mod work? as of right now theres no tech or building showing up to allow me to build the legions it simply doesnt exist
Bloodystranger Sep 21, 2018 @ 6:57pm
hey can anyone tell me the file name of this mod im trying to change the unit size on my own but for the life of me i can't seem to find it
Aristoxenus Jun 29, 2018 @ 8:10pm
I think if Constantinus I didn't make any Military reforms, these classical units could still had better chances because it was very effective in the old days, why wouldn't be in the 330s? The Legionnaries and Praetorian Cohorts had more Armous, discipline, training and armament than the noobish troops he made
Tip May 5, 2018 @ 2:30pm
can u not use this in the grand campaign?
ReFleXzZ Mar 23, 2018 @ 11:20pm

This mod has soooo much potential! Please fix recruitment issues!
Castet Aug 18, 2017 @ 3:59am
This mod is excellent! However, during a large company, when using it, new squads no longer recruit. If possible, please fix this.

Spearman and swordsmen disappear from garrison after tech is researched
WolfgangKrauser May 7, 2017 @ 3:06am
It now seems to me- unless I have a mod conflict- that this mod is essentially broken, at worst, and misleading at best. Has anyone actually managed to recruit these units? I have spent hours tinkering, and it seems to me that this mod only replaces existing troops with these legionaries. You can't actually recruit these legionaries, you can only use them to replace existing troops. If I am correct, I beg you to put this in the description.
WolfgangKrauser May 6, 2017 @ 4:07pm
Any chance you can make your Armoured Legionaires look exactly like the ones Virilly made here: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=604580952&searchtext=the+roman+legion
Xirexev Apr 28, 2017 @ 10:45am
@RebelShutze<3 just a small question.. As the eastern roman empire, how do you recruit the units.. I cant seem to find the right building..
Sarmatian Trapstar Apr 23, 2017 @ 4:01pm
Good day. I would like to begin by congratulating you for creating such a pristine modification to this very enjoyable total war game, i'm glad to see young people like you taking an interest not only in the period before the fall of Rome, but also in the period of the Roman republic, and merging the two, simply genius! Congratulations, young gentleman, you have warmed the heart of this old fool, thank you, bless you, you have made the last years of my miserable excuse for a life just a little more bearable, and for that you have my warmest gratitude. Cheers.

Cant recruit generals after researching Roman Military Traditions playing as west roman empire and playing grand campaign either...
Count Ligma Apr 22, 2017 @ 12:49am
one i didn't research the Roman Military Traditions before i end turn and i was able to recruit generals again and two i unclicked the mod and had it uninstalled and again it worked again i was able to recruit generals so the fact i only have two mods installed right now, this and your combat overhaul and testing my theory out for some reason when i research the Military Traditions it makes it unable to recruit generals... not sure if it does this for the other campaigns i only started the last roman dlc but ya thought you should know so you can look into it.
Count Ligma Apr 22, 2017 @ 12:49am
love the mod man only one problem, When im playing last roman dlc right... i start out in Africa just landed about to kick ass right... i take the first city no problem, well i hate the eastern roman prick who waves his D1ck around... Justinian right? ya that cunt, moving on so i declare Independence right? so before i end turn i Research the Roman Military Traditions end turn ect ect well when its my turn again i go to recruit a general and... Nothing happens i have the imperium lvl to hire 4 beginning the dlc and i have the money but when i click to hire it does nothing.... but it lets me recruit admirals out the @$$ well to test it out i did two things...

Ok changes made. Btw if you haven't already, try my combat mod. It incorporates formation perks that make the legions much more potent. ;)
Xirexev Apr 16, 2017 @ 2:33am
RebelShutze<3 I would agree to that. This would greatly improve the already good quality of this mod. :)
RebelSchutze  [author] Apr 15, 2017 @ 6:26pm
you're exactly right. I think probably the most appropriate way to buff them is melee attack, could you agree?
Xirexev Apr 15, 2017 @ 11:48am
@RebelShutze<3 I am not sure.. Loricae segmentatae used to be very costly to produce.. So expensive in fact, that they eventually grew out of favour and were replaced by cheaper alternatives like riveted mail when funds weren't as abundant as they used to be. It really was one of the big military archievments of the golden age of the roman empire though. Tempered steel plate armor would not be used for a long time on such a large scale after they dissapeared.
So parhaps that's just how they need to be, like real legionaries..
Very expensive to produce and maintain, well armored, yet on equal footing when it comes to melee..
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lorica_segmentata
RebelSchutze  [author] Apr 15, 2017 @ 10:02am
@Xirexev Yes I see your point. Perhaps I could make them cheaper? like 25% less? Idk
Xirexev Apr 15, 2017 @ 9:59am
@RebelShutze<3 I can fully understand the reasoning behind your choice.. And I I really find this to be a sound mod overall.. This mod brings back some great immersion from Rome II However, the only thing that is parhaps a little bit disappointing is that the roman units seem to lose to a lot of their cheaper counterparts.. This makes them too expensive compared to the result they churn out.. So I personally thought that parhaps a minor tweak to their attack damage would be good idea..
RebelSchutze  [author] Apr 15, 2017 @ 7:19am
@Xirexev You're welcome man, and thanks for the feedback. Yeah the damage is acuatlly a bit deceptive, it's composed of 10 AP damage and 25 regular damage. 10 Is rather high AP damage for a sword, and I gave it that since the gladius was primarily used as a stabbing/penetrating weapon. Bumping it up to 40 or even 50 actually woudn't be a significant change unless AP went up.
Xirexev Apr 15, 2017 @ 7:04am
I really like the mod, and appriaciate you making it.. Yet I would suggest buffing the legion's damage output just for a tiny bit.. This way they will be good warriors without being OP..
RebelSchutze  [author] Apr 15, 2017 @ 6:43am
@Emperor I'm not sure why that is. I recently updated and it should be fine.
@Postmo,no his mod is not required
@Roman added the abilities but I won't be making them OP. If you want the formations to be more effective, I recommend you try by battle mod for ATW.
Aristoxenus Mar 26, 2017 @ 6:12pm
I only have access to the Legionary Cohort and The Ali thing, and another unit that i can't recruit, why?

DodgeCamaro64 Feb 8, 2017 @ 7:04am
how do you increase the unit size
Postmo Jan 18, 2017 @ 11:47am
Does this require Augusto's mod? i instaqlled it on its own and the military traditions tech isnt available
Flaver13 Oct 7, 2016 @ 2:44pm
Is it possible add these units to another faction? I wanna play as the Danes and i think it would be cool to have Roman legions. Is it possible?
TexanChiss Oct 1, 2016 @ 3:15pm
Can you replace all the vanilla units in just the garrisons for WRE with your units? Also, can you pls make an op version and give them these abilities? steam://openurl/http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=609246117
TexanChiss Sep 26, 2016 @ 11:41am
Are the infantry and cav unit sizes 160 and 80 for ultra?
TexanChiss Sep 26, 2016 @ 11:40am
Can you give infantry these abilities and make an op version for fun at some point?

so I lowered melee attack and defense as well as made some other minute changes and fixes. Legionaries are still very formidable forces but are also mortals.
Hell they are if you ask me brother...they just face some low lev Pict Berserkers with very high armour pierce efect the result where "Roman Soup" and i was like just ...WTF and stop recruiting them!!!
Maybe they are Formidable on normal dificulty but on very hard ,NOPE they are not just becose they lowest att rate and dmg the AI now just spam " very high armour pierce units" and recruit them like a horde last batle i faced 14 stacks Berserkers :spg2bomb:

@Lizard The Marian reforms were of military organization, not exclusively equipement. The Romans maintained Marian organization until the introduction of the comitatenses when smaller units were more desirable.
