After 5 years I came back to play Starbound again, and I had an issue with the gap size. Turns out that I already fixed that 5 years ago and made a tutorial here ^^

It works perfectly but you should moves your player UI far enough to the left side of the screen once every time you log into game. You also can check this mod:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1430852353 to adjust the distance between your container and your player UI which makes this mod activated.

works perfectly after I decided to read the description 😂

this mods absolutely not necessary.
Dusk Holloway Dec 14, 2022 @ 10:22pm
@Fuzzybat23 you still gotta move you inventory out of the way.
Fuzzybat23 Sep 3, 2022 @ 7:23pm
This moves the container's inventory window out of the way, but the player inventory window still sits right on top of my character making it impossible to see the chests I'm opening :(
VariableVixen Aug 16, 2022 @ 4:36pm
The game natively handles moving the opened container's UI to the left when I put my inventory on the far right of my screen, does this mod work with that? Or does it force the container UI to be right of my inventory no matter what?
Kinsect Jul 12, 2022 @ 1:13pm
So found out that this does not work with bk3k's inventory mod.
Smashiwix Jun 23, 2022 @ 6:52pm
So i figured it out. inventory mods like Carlucci's Inventory that totally change the inventory menu break this mod. I was unable to get it to work at all until I reverted to the base vanilla inventory.
Smashiwix Jun 23, 2022 @ 4:03am
Yo, so idk what im doing wrong, but it seems that no matter what I do, this mod will not take effect. I do what "Immune to Bullets" says to do, and the inventory of the container I open still is glued to the main UI of my own inventoty. This is strange, as I used to run this mod all the time and it worked, but now for whatever reason its kind of just borked.

Still working as of 4/24/2022. As the instructions note, you have to manually move the players window to the left when you first log into a game session. After that the containers windows will pop up on the right. The very first time you open a container after starting the game, the container window will be right on top of the character window. Just move the character window then close and re-open the container and you're good until the next time. It takes half a second, it' not a big deal.
NotRandomEnough Apr 15, 2022 @ 5:51am
It works fine for me when following the instructions which say you have to move the inventory window once upon reloading the game, which then saves the position fine. I tend to put the inventory window to the left of my character and every container window then opens on the right of my character, with enough space in between to keep a good view of my character. I have not tried customizing the gap size, but I'm sure it works when following the instructions given.

Uninstalled, never worked :SBpanda:
Aethis Sep 18, 2021 @ 7:56am
oh this, this is what i needed, i was tired of mving things to the bottom corner, thx man
BloodyBane Jun 14, 2021 @ 9:48pm
I'm using UI Tweak 2, but considering the .config is exactly the same, it should be fine, but I'm posting here because the comments aren't nearly 3 years old. So, is there a way for both the /displayCenteredWindowGap and /bringAdjacentWindowGap to function simultaneously? Using the former in the code allows the mod to function with a small gap between windows, regardless of the value, but using the latter only works for certain windows like the Refinery or Microscopes, but functions as the value intended.
Pixleator Mar 31, 2021 @ 6:22pm
doesnt work
Mambo Mar 31, 2021 @ 5:33pm
Not working :(
Mad Derp Packer Mar 10, 2021 @ 5:26am
works for me with 21 pages of mods.
Zethren527 Feb 2, 2021 @ 9:28pm
I have no other UI mods installed, but it doesn't seem to work for me. I move the inventory page as far left as I can without it going off the screen and next time I boot up the world it is back in the center. Sadness, I am thee.
Nerozero Dec 31, 2020 @ 4:04pm
@kaitii yeah same problem
Vas Dec 10, 2020 @ 4:29pm
I tried to make my own version following those instructions, it failed. I dunno why.

I was wondering if there is a way to have the window instead of appearing at a specific position on screen compared to the normal inventory position, and appear a certain distance from the edge of a side like for example 160 pixels to the left of the right screen edge.
Ace Sep 22, 2020 @ 3:21am
not working
KaitiiTheGreat Sep 14, 2020 @ 12:38pm
for me, it's not moving the container's inventory per session. the inventory always open in center screen. player inventory, will stick where i leave it though.
单身狗队长 May 17, 2020 @ 6:36am
not work
Zalpha May 10, 2020 @ 5:29am
Also if you still think it doesn't work, make sure you have put your inventory in the very far left of the screen. If it isn't far enough, it will not work correctly as well.
Zalpha May 9, 2020 @ 11:02pm
For those saying it doesn't work it is most likely that you have other UI mods that end up conflicted with this mod. I had to remove a few UI modification mods in order to fix it up to how it was working before.
Dym0niter Apr 20, 2020 @ 3:21pm
@Nomad, move your inventory further to the left. if it's still overlapping, then it might be a resolution thing, but this mod does work
L1quID Apr 20, 2020 @ 4:42am
It doesnt work. I move container inventory on the right side, and it still on my inventory next time (Sry for my bad english)
Theader Apr 18, 2020 @ 5:43pm
already in game
Zechgreen Mar 17, 2020 @ 12:03pm
Okay, thank you, it is working now. :steamhappy:
Dym0niter Jan 20, 2020 @ 2:08pm
@Zechgreen it does work, you just have to move your inventory to the side first, every session. then it will place the storage window to the side of it.
Zechgreen Jan 20, 2020 @ 11:34am
This doesn't work for me... Instead it layers both windows on top of me instead of one... Really made my storage experiences worse. :steamsad:
LazySpaceRaptor Nov 13, 2019 @ 12:59am
It broke now.
Egg Sep 16, 2019 @ 3:54am
Hi seems not to work for extendet storage mod
Egg Sep 1, 2019 @ 8:10am
Thanks for this nice mod !!! @angryshark, just unsubscribe go into game, leave game subscribe and this will redownload the mod, should work. did for me
AngryShark Jul 17, 2019 @ 1:21am
They just keep opening on top of one another. Even when i move them apart. And then open the SAME container no more than few seconds after. ITs again on top of one another.
Dym0niter Jul 9, 2019 @ 1:12am
@D.A.R.K. oh, i actually don't know how things work internally. but you could try changing the resolution. i've noticed that, if a window can't fit inbetween the inventory and the side of the screen, that it will still overlay the inventory. i have my resolution at 1920x1080 and i can fit a 300 slot container inbeween my inventory and the side of the screen. maybe that's the problem. but the coding and everything is beyond me, sorry
D.A.R.K. Jul 8, 2019 @ 6:48pm
@Føxtrøt
I have a lot of MODs that I like to play, but I don't know which MODs still work with 1.4 and which not, so I copy & paste this question in every single one of them to see the answer.

@Dym0niter
I like to place the inv window at the left side of the screen below the character stats and when I open any storage the window is placed in the middle of the screen. I saw there's a way to change the value of gap (4 default, 160 MOD), I'm following the steps from the community.playstarbound.com and do you know if the files from step 4 are .txt file?
Dym0niter Jul 8, 2019 @ 4:35pm
@D.A.R.K yes, it does. keep in mind you do have to move your inventory after every time you log into a character. then it will automatically place container UI's either to the left or right a good bit, so you can see your character
Arrowpuppet Jul 8, 2019 @ 1:43pm
D.A.R.K. why are you on every thread i stg
D.A.R.K. Jul 8, 2019 @ 9:34am
Does this MOD still work with 1.4 update?
Yalkin Jul 2, 2019 @ 7:40pm
Doesnt work with improved containers
ross Jul 2, 2019 @ 6:05am
Doesn't work anymore it seems.
Dym0niter Jul 1, 2019 @ 1:00am
That happens every time you load a game. just move it to the side and this mod will take effect
Voidlord597 Jun 30, 2019 @ 6:00pm
I was using this recently, but sometimes the UI's end up on top of each other in the center of the screen.
^Magik Spud^ Jun 29, 2019 @ 2:44am
Hello, do u guys know how to update the code of the mod you uploaded into steam? - u can also reply on my personal profile page to reach me.:bluewizard:
Dym0niter Jun 23, 2019 @ 12:13pm
that doesn't happen with me. might be a mod conflict, possibly with a popular UI mod that a lot of people use. for me, it just places the container ui and the inventory a good distance away.
Lethann Jun 23, 2019 @ 12:07pm
@preston yes, you can move it, but the container window spawns directly next to the inventory screen, covering up your character. This becomes a problem if there are multiple containers next to each other, making you move the windows each time you open one because it covers up where your character is.
Dym0niter Jun 21, 2019 @ 3:49am
It does in fact still work. The only thing it changes is how far the container UI is located from the inventory (aka, this mod adds in a space inbetween). This is useful for players who want to see their character while looting stuff. Tested with Starbound 1.4
Preston Apr 13, 2019 @ 3:22am
you can do this without the mod. just move the inventory tab to the side of the screen and the container screen will spawn next to it
