eu4 doesn't fully support unicode. But it supports the windows-1252 character set which contains the letter š. An ingame example would be the province 1318 which is called Spiš if you disable dynamic naming. It works on the map, but it doesn't work in the province window:

But vanilla eu4 also has a problem with it. It only works in the top tab of the province window: {LINK REMOVED}

Well it's not a matter of not willing to support it. I took over maintenance of this mod. The creation of the font itself is something I was never involved with. Wouldn't know how to add it.

But I'm afraid the Š and Ž are somehow not supported. Could be of some encoding or keyboard setting from my side. Not sure.

If I try the Unicodes for Š in-game I get different letters. But also found a old post that Unicodes are not fully supported anymore by EU4...

I don't have any examples from the base game, not sure if it doesn't come up or I haven't spotted
any. Modded province, but "Karšuva" is an example.

Fair enough if you don't want to support non-Latin characters, I'm fully appreciative of your work and that might be far too niche of a thing to spend your time on. I'm just curious if you have any tips about how I might add that, I'm happy to maintain it myself.

Any recommendations for what to do when the font is missing characters? For example, "š" is used in some province names but is missing in the font, resulting in missing letters anywhere the font is used. Province names on the map (which uses the base game font) using any non-standard Latin characters end up not matching the province names in many of the menus.

Not the worst problem but I'm curious if anyone else has ran into it?

@Kaiser: Europa expanded is incompatible, because it changes several of the UI files. And eu4 does not support setting a load order. The order which you set in the launcher is ignored by eu4. Eu4 determines the load order of mods by their names and dependency sections.

Ah, that was it - I had UI scale at 1.2x and I figured "there's no way that this is the issue, how would making the UI bigger make the font fewer pixels?" Problem solved, though you might want to add a quick disclaimer in the description that it only works properly at 1x UI scale.

@Nick Salles, thanks! You are more than welcome to create a compatibility yourself. Or use the other Stellaris mod. That one should work with any mod altough it changes each and every font in-game.

@Beenoc, you can just post a URL. Anyway, are you sure you did not change UI scaling? I play on 5120 x 1440. It does not look like yours.

I will back up the issue about the macro builder font UI being virtually unreadable. i DOT imgur DOT com/XKJ8ogP DOT png is a screenshot to show what I mean - this is on 1440p ultrawide, it might not be an issue at 1080p.

Any reason why "macrobuild_mapicons.gui" isn't using the Stellaris font(s)? Being such small text, I think it's actually one of the hardest to read, but manually patching in a Stellaris replacement ("Small_Font_Stellaris" seemed the most apt replacement) makes it a dream to read -- my eyes thank you so much. Just curious if there are issues with this that I haven't yet ran into, I don't want this to sound like criticism.

Yup! It's ended up being a fair bit of work to get everything perfect but I think I'm nearly there. Only a couple out-right crashes (which are totally understandable & were easy to fix), mostly just requires a bit of comparing & finagling of coordinates to get things placed just right. Thanks again for the great mod!

Never mind! I realized a bit late that if Voltaire's Nightmare extends the UI, then it must have its own `countrymissionsview.gui`, and by comparing it to this mod's, I could work out how to make them compatible. That looks quite promising; there's even a `max_slots_horizontal` that defaults to 5, but VN bumps up to 10, which sounds like I'm on the right track. Writing this just in case it helps someone else out in adding their own compat, thanks for this great mod! My ailing eyes really appreciate it.

I know other UI mods are not supported, but is there an easy way for a user to extend the width missions view window? In Voltaire's Nightmore (I assumed vanilla too, but I guess not?), there's 10 "columns" of missions: the left 5 are generic, right 5 specific to a nation. This mod cuts it off so you can only see the left 5. I've been playing around with width & x values for a while now but haven't found anything that has an effect.

Thanks Chefspecial. I have one other small issue that I don't believe is mod related (at least, disabling my other mods doesn't fix the issue). On the history screen, the text tends to run out the bottom of the window slightly. Not a huge issue, but wanted to highlight it. Again, thanks for the great mod!

My mistake, it was a conflict with another mod (Pilate's Decision Pictures) that I didn't realize I also had enabled. Disabling that fixed the problem. False alarm! Thanks again for the great usability mod here - I find it indispensable!

For some reason this mod doesn't seem to be addressing the font in the Policies tab (and any sub-windows from this tab)? Not sure if it's user error or something else is up...
