If you have problems using the Mega Drive & Genesis Collections app, try using an emulator.

@alexbharmon Downloaded the mod today and playing in the SEGA mega drive & SEGA genesis Classics and it will not allow me to save the progress in the mod, and Ideas as to making it so I can my progress? (Downloaded 8/13/2021)

Honestly dont think there is but you should get an emulator its very easy and superior playing

would like to give this a shot, but saving doesnt work for me for whatever reason. neither save states nor in game saving. any solutions besides getting an emulator?

@Scottrick How did you get started modding this game? I have some ideas that I'd love to try out but I'm not sure where to learn. I saw a decompiled version of SF2 on github but after looking through it briefly, it seemed like a lot to parse myself without any guidance.

@a_canadian_hero Alright. Personally i couldnt get steam to work it wouldnt keep my saves so i had to use fusion emulator. Im glad i did, save states are super handy for stat boosting items as well as back tracking. Also not gonna lie some of the stuff is super difficult like when you are in a 2 hour battle and they have desoul which instant kills your hero or darksol goes twice uses 2 demon breath and theres literally nothing you could have done to live. In moments like that im very grateful for save states. Im biased though since im a big stream watcher so its nice to be able to watch a stream while playing.

@jordanjohannson No I haven't. I'd rather play it through steam to be honest but if I can't get it to work I'll just do it that way.

I was hoping someone had a solution. I had it working just fine for a time but now it won't work at all.

I cannot use this mod anymore for some reason. I am subscribed to it (I have tried unsubscribing, launching the app, closing it, resubscribing), and it shows in the Room Library as having the mod installed, however whenever I try to start a new game it isn't installed (my cape is still green instead of red). the Room Library also won't let me uninstall the mod from there (holding the button does nothing).

Has anybody experienced this before? I'd love to play this mod but it just will not work.

@sbloom85 The problem is without the drystone i cant access number 2: the cave that is in the location where the dwarven blacksmith is. Now when i first read the story tellers i thought this ring was how you got to the dwarven village because the ring says you can like traverse small riverbeds. But you would need the ring in the cave to access this cave.

Do you know how to access it and what im missing? It looks like the only other option is a river flowing north but i have no clue how i would get another raft there.

Also ive tried accessing the config menu to see if theres a way to walk over the water but its impossible to enter the code in time before the brief couple second sega thing goes away to the pre game cinematic of slade stealing the jewels.

Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you :)

@sbloom85 Hi, im now at the geshp battle. First of all uhh this is gonna be insane fighting this many geshp's since i killed a couple and they just exploded on me like mud man so it doesnt look like theres a hidden way to beat it besides kill them all.

My main point was that not many people seem to be on the same mod update i am. I dont know if it was a 2017 update or what but like i scrolled down and the 2016 youtube series wasnt.

So in my update there was no dry stone in the dwarf cave and the dwarven blacksmith was at the dojo location. Now i read all the mitula shrines and screenshotted them. I have the woman in training sheela and got the hero's gauntlet and i just got mitula's shield in the galam treasury.

Reading a couple posts here,yes i noticed some changes but there is suppose to be change,it is not the original game per se.
I can only assume some areas were skipped over to save time but idk.So far i'd say it plays pretty much the same as original,not sure what TACTICS is suppose to imply,again assuming a naming process used from FF tactics?

There is some additional items/armor to change things up a bit.A few changes in the maps but mostly the same.It is enough to play it again,i've played this game a thousand times lol.

Well i just made a triple post with the character limit. The first one with the elven town/promotion items is the most important and its the first one i put probably not smart.

Is it a bug peter only learns spells after promotion? he went from none to blaze 3 in 1 level haha. I thought chester was ok then i get rick with 9 of each stat over chester. Creeds castle will be so tough. I made jaha a soldier, so 3 of the 4 creed chars are new classes with wiz, mmnk and brawler. All fighting with elric for 2 spots.

The best change by far are the spells added. With the increase in difficulty you really feel like team building for the battle matters so much more. Before you just used slade, gerhalt, peter, karna and your main character just from their insane stats they roll the game over. Now its whether i want boost from karna or more supportive magic from slade or just raw attack power of gerhalt.

This game is seriously so amazing. Anyone out there still playing? I got stuck for a couple months because luke was glitched where he wouldnt be with me to talk to the mayor with oddler. If i left the map he would be there then go lol. I was dumb i just went back to it and found a save state before the battle, redid it and it was fine. Now im just playing all day, been such a great distraction while throwing up from chemo. Again i cant give enough thanks and props.

I am just to the elven town and trying out warlock kazin. Now the only change list ive seen is from a 2016 thread of dark claw on the shining absolute final edition. There kazin learns desoul first not raze. Also im trying to use warlock rings and it doesnt do anything, do they just give spells and thats what raze is from and i will learn desoul after i level up? thinking about it i bet thats it.

Before i make a huge post: for those still playing or the creator i have questions at the elven town. Are there any items? i went to where the tree is hiding the life ring chest but alas nothing was there then dark sol spawned and i died lol. I assume you can come back at the end game. I want to see all the enemies soooo bad. When dark sol popped up my mouth was agape, his animation and attacks are 10/10. Kane as the Ancestor with his two blades is a great touch as well. So yeah are there any treasures to try and survive and grab or just skip it until end game?

Question 2: will the merchants ever sell promotion items in their shop so if i wanted i could make all my knights pegasus knights etc? i saw someone post a pic of it being so in their game i think it was the same mod and now that im promoted all my guys im curious if it will pop up.

@apikebapie Yeah. You can use it on any emulator. The mod is located in the game's Steam Workshop folder "SteamApps\Workshop\Content\34270", the mod folder is "674636777". Just copy the file to your emulator's ROM folder and then load it normally.

Hi, i wanted to ask, is there a way to use this mod on an external emulator like Kega Fusion?

I have the sega game room thing but it's going crazy on my gpu for no reason so i'd rather not use it.

Also, if it's possible, do you know how to do it?

That's crazy. alexbharmon created the mod, I merely uploaded it. As for your problem, I suppose you could try using the configuration mode (Up, Down, Up, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Right, Down, Left, Up, hold B until config comes up) and cheat until you get back to Tristan, then save there.

@sbloom85 Hey so I don't know if there's anything you can do to help me, but I've been playing through on your mod and I'm up to the fight with Zalbard in Mitula's Shrine, I had to Egress out and was taken to the village next to the Kraken fight. Now if I try and go anywhere I am forced into fights with monsters way out of my level range. "Dark Sol" 600hp, "Ancestor" 550hp. I can't make my way back to Mitula's shrine and can't really progress any further.

My only suggestion would be to use a standalone emulator like Gens/Gens+, Fusion or Retroarch.

@sbloom85 same as below. Downloaded this recently and the mod is great but every time I close Steam's emulator all Save data is erased. I've tried saving at the priest (as in the original) and I've tried saving using the emulator function (backing out of the game) and neither seem to work. Any suggestions?

Everytime I load the game it only gives me the "Start" option. The load option is never there, even if I went to a priest and saved. Any idea how to fix this?

Try this: Unsubscribe from the mod, run the app, close the app, resubscribe, run the app and load the mod.

If you are currently having issues just unsubscribe and then resubscribe.

Yeah, I'm getting that as well. I tried all my Genesis emulators, none worked; tried unsubscribing and resubscribing, that didn't work. I'll have to talk to Alex about it.

@sbloom85 its been a month and super fun. Well now i tried to load it and got a steam sync cloud issue. When i load the mod on steam it just shows as black. On any emulator loading the steam mod just has the emulator go black. Loading any of my states 'work' but are frozen and have a loud noise. I'm sorry to bother you but i was just curious if anyone was having this issue or have a solution to it because i have gone insane from trying to fix it without it working

I too have the same problem with the Sega Classics emulator's save states and standard saves with the mod.

No compensation necessary. You need the money more than I do and I'm not entirely sure I follow what you're saying here.

Did you download the base ROM from another location and are wondering if you need to extract it? You wouldn't have to do that since the ROM downloaded from Steam is uncompressed, unarchived and identical to what you get elsewhere.

As far as applying the patch, if you were to use Gens/Gens+, you would need a tool like LunarIPS to apply the patch to the extracted ROM file. However, if you used RetroArch, you can have the base ROM and the patch with the same name in the same folder and RetroArch will automatically apply it. As I said before, this step would be unnecessary as the patched ROM is downloaded to your Workshop folder.

@sbloom85 So my question again is what am i doing wrong? Do i somehow have to turn the rar file into a rom despite extracting with winrar or 7zip only creating the .giz file? Should i try another emulator, do you have a completed extracted file of the absolute edition i can just download and put in the rom folder?

Thank you so so much for your help i have played and loved this series as a kid playing with my grandparents and now that i am on heavy heavy chemotherapy for my stage 4 cancer i would really love some nostalgia and a fun challenge after beating all 3 shining force games. @sbloom85 yes i know thats how it works for this steam version. However like i said and you said, something is wrong because it doesnt save in game or save states. So i am talking about how to use it on emulators. Im trying gens and downloaded a shining force 2 rom. However when putting the rar file of shining tactics absolute edition i downloaded from dark claw and putting it in the file with the sf2 rom when i create a file it doesnt have the tactics mod. Even when extracting the rar file to the folder with the rom all i get is a 42 kb .giz file that also doesnt do anything. Nor can i load as a rom.
