To celebrate the SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classics Collection on sale, we have added some animated library artwork for all of our retro fans out there!

To find your alternative library tiles and hero banners, right click on SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classics in your game library and go to Manage > BROWSE LOCAL FILES…

In the game files folder you’ll notice a new folder called EXTRAS. Inside you’ll find your new animated goodies.

To set a new cover tile, right click on the SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classics game tile in your Steam library, then go to Manage > Set Custom Artwork. Point to the tile of your choice in the EXTRAS folder and you can enjoy your new animated covers.

To set a new hero banner, left click on the SEGA Mega Drive & Genesis Classics Collection in your Steam Library to navigate to its library page. Simply right click the header banner, click Set Custom Background, choose your banner, and you’re ready to go!

We have also added in the Mega Drive and Genesis logos, just in case you have a preference.

SEGA is thrilled to announce that we’ve updated the SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis Classics on Steam. This update brings a raft of new features, including online multiplayer, so you can slug your way through Streets of Rage with a friend online.

We’ve also added VR support. You can now immerse yourself in your early 90’s retro-themed bedroom and play on a virtual CRTV or go big with full screen.

The full list of upgrades includes the following:

• Two-player online multiplayer
• Leaderboards
• Challenge Modes – short challenges give old favourites a new twist
• Additional graphics filters & border options
• ROMs from other regions for games with significant differences
• Fast-forward and rewind
• Sprite limit disable
• Mirror mode – reverse the screen for a fresh challenge
• VR support
• Mac and Linux support

This update comes free to current owners of any SEGA Mega Drive and Genesis Classic title on Steam.

We’ve also given the complete collection a new low price of $29.99 / €29.99 / £24.99. There’s never been a better time to jump in! New input system:

-Supports all modern console controllers and possibly some less modern ones such as PC remakes of megadrive pads (untested)

-Xbox One
-Steam Controller
-PS4 (Using the custom DS4Windows drivers available online)

-Allows for simultaneous controller, mouse and keyboard assignment and control
-New input manager, far more customizable than the original allowing two mappings for the same function for both keyboards and controllers.

Performance:

-Mod data is now cached correctly, giving major performance increase for users subscribed to a large number of mods
-Small misc performance fixes to do with UI animation
-Vsync now defaults to off, we recommend leaving it that way if you're having trouble with emulator performance

-Mods now appear in menus correctly when the user is subscribed to > 50 workshop files

"Stretched fullscreen" option implemented

-Off by default
-This setting stretches the fullscreen video output to 16:9

Capped FPS at 120 when vsync is disabled

-Prevents excessive framerates in fullscreen play mode
-Some users with powerful machines were running in excess of 600 FPS, causing overheating

Added "fastest" graphics setting for even lower graphics

-This disables the time of day sun/moon lights and realtime shadows, and sets all textures to lowest LOD
