I think the load order of mods have to be identical too, and the way that works in SHogun 2 is that the load order is decided by what order you activate the mods in the launcher.
So I would launch and deactivate all mods and have both of you activate the same mods in the same order. See if that helps.
That is a good question, but it has been so long since I modded Shogun 2 that I don't really remember exactly how weapons where added to the units. Although I think it was done via a table entry so it may not be possible as I believe you can only edit one entry for each unit. It is possible with the newer games in the series but I just can't remember how it worked in Shogun 2.
Maybe if you delve into the flag bearer and captain units and how they work. Because they use different weapons but is part of the same unit.
Hey, this is quite a long time after you've made the mod to ask, but could you make a standalone mod that has just the "Makes Yari/Oda Long Yari Ashigaru units fight with their spears instead of with their swords" with the addition of applying it to yari samurai?
(by not adding some weird stuff), good job.
I think there's a little animation problem with "Yari Wall" and Yari Ashigaru fighting with swords.
in vanilla game where ashigaru can switch to swords,when they move out with spear wall,they walk steady like men with pikes.
and when they got no swords,well they just like men trying to walk with only their left feet moving.
So far I have only used packfilemanager when dealing with these kinds of mods that edit the tables. Seems to work fine so far.
