I am going to play a LWOTC play-through, and don't want to accidentally unlock some achivement in modded game.
Explanation for me using it:
I found out that you do actually unlock achievements in XCOM2 when using mods. I'm sure you all already know this, but that was actually the reason for me wanting to use this mod. However, my game totally glitched out (not related to this mod) and I can't make it work, without starting from scratch, and I'm not doing that! So I'm just gonna use this mod to give me the last achievements I was going to go for legit anyways and then I probably start a fresh WOTC campaign instead.
If you are looking to unlock all the base game's achievements, try only having this mod enabled and launching the game.
Just so people don't judge me, I am playing through the game, with mods enabled, which disables the achievements, which is a shame. So I want to unlock them all now, and then still try to do them all, with my mods installed. :D
I like "savescumming" my way through my campaigns and "cheating" each achievement individually via direct gameplay, so I know I "earnt" it. However, embarrassing as it is to admit, I have recently taken up the even more sickening tactic of using "mods". I know, send me to the darkest pit for all eternity for this.
However, kudos to the author, this mod provides something that some players want, and all power to them.
In regards to the personal glory of earning achievements, yes, it is a nice feeling to work hard to unlock every achievement which is why it's a good thing that is the default state (you can simply do nothing and carry on this paradigm).
In regards to Firaxis using achievement statistics to modify future gameplay, if they are a developer worth their salt (and I believe they are) then mods like this are something they had to anticipate when it came to their decision to allow such extensive modding of the game, it would stand to reason that when it comes to looking at the data surrounding achievements, they might also look at the subscription numbers on mods like this (it's not like that data isn't avalible to them, it's all on Steam) and use that to adjust their numbers accordingly.

In fact, with the amount of hilarious anti-support, maybe I should go ahead and update the mod from proof of concept to fully fledged cheater mod? :D
So glad this exists so I can get flak for actually doing well.
> "I' very sorry if your experience of enjoyment from xcom is based upon feeling special from having a steam achievement."
I do not get enjoyment of having an achievement. If that were the case I'd be using your mod, wouldn't I? I get enjoyment from *gaining* an achievement. And yes, knowing that I was able to do something that other could not feels good. This is a basic human drive, that you too feel, albeit not ncessarily related to gaming.
> "Global statistics really shouldnt effect your gameplay otherwise"
Agreed. The gameplay is not the issue here. The joy derived from gaining achievments is.
> "Its not like stunlancers get +5hp if too many people globally has a rare achievement"
?? I fail to see how that is relevenat here.
> "But other people choosing to play differently should not have an effect on your enjoyment."
Please clarify how cheating your way to achievements equals playing the game? That's the part that I'm not quite getting.
cwojackson: hilarious!
I Understand that most people like to get their achievements the legit way. Go do it. But other people choosing to play differently should not have an effect on your enjoyment. Take a step back; look around the workshop, find the mods you want to use and go enjoy a videogame.
And it's scummy to just game Steam achievements like this. It makes them ... not-achievements. By definition.
Have u tryed moding the enemy weapon damage on legend ? A sectopod doing 0 critical dmg is so difficult to hit. Not.
All that besides ... why hate on some new moder who uploaded his "test" and did the work of describing, making a previewpicture and so on to get to know the workshop ? U should be happy to see people like this cause in the end u want there non-test-mods (which got acived by testing a shitton) to play with.
Haters gona hate. That how it always was that's what how it always will be. Amen.
The only thing this mod does, is damage Firaxis's ability to accurately determine the difficulty curve of the game, and give those who don't want to take the time and effort to get good at a game out of sheer laziness, a way to cheat the system. Anyone who downloads and uses this mod, only enables that kind of behavior.
I simply stumbled upon the way it handles achievements and figured it would save the savescummers some time, with very minimal effort and learning to publish a mod in the process.
I'm no elite modder, but anyone who has poked around ModBuddy will recognize that XCOM 2 is insanely moddable. It's by no means a perfect system in terms of how we go about more complicated things, but it is easy to make huge balance changes.
XCOM 2 will be focused on how YOU want to play.
With the state of the workshop after less than a month, this should already be self evident.
