Even with this mod, AWC never gives me the abilities. Most recent game, 52 promotions and nothing. Stupid fucking piece of shit.

ah, thanks
-bg-  [author] Jan 2, 2024 @ 3:46am
wotc completely changed how the extra perks work so this does not work with it.
Thourq Jan 2, 2024 @ 12:43am
Hey quick question, is this WoTC compatible?
ccostigan #TF2Classic Apr 23, 2023 @ 2:50pm
Update: You don't need to promote a soldier to get a retroactive AWC perk, you just need to go to soldier abilities and it will show up immediately.
ccostigan #TF2Classic Apr 21, 2023 @ 3:38pm
For those still confused: This mod lets you gain "lost" AWC perks when a soldier is promoted. It retains the limit of one per unit and is still unlocked at the perk level or higher.

Example: I had a grenadier Captain in a vanilla game with post-mission "assign promotion" status. I installed this mod. I built an AWC. When I opened his menu to promote him to Major, he got a Corporal AWC perk. This AWC perk would have been "lost" in the base game because I installed the AWC after he passed Corporal.

Works as intended with existing save games. Would recommend.

Tried this mod in old save, then in a new one.
It did not work for me.
Any workaround or is the mod outdated?
IceColdHeart Jul 6, 2021 @ 6:57am
i was wondering on the last mission Avatar 2 and 3 not load and mission cannot end.
after disabling this mod and load savegame new i was able to end mission.
PremierVader Apr 9, 2021 @ 3:20am
Ok so I tried this not too long ago on a campaign and I got MULTIPLE awc mods on all my soldiers by the end of the campaign. Im not complaining I just want to know how to actually do this again, would be nice if somebody can help!
poptartprodigy Dec 23, 2020 @ 5:24am
Tried this out on an ongoing save file. Worked like a charm, no complaints.
RebeledgeSec Sep 22, 2020 @ 11:18am
Appears to be out of date. Doesn't work anymore. Is there plans for further development?
6 Apr 6, 2020 @ 6:55pm
does this mod work with current save?
Zyrrashijn Jan 1, 2020 @ 3:01am
There's no AWC in WOTC.
Dr.NDL Dec 31, 2019 @ 3:15pm
can you please make this mod work for wotc?
Digi-Mau Dec 24, 2017 @ 2:26am
@zyrrashijin ah... well i wasnt aware. I only recently got Wotc and was upgrading my mods before playing it. Though that does make the answer clear
Zyrrashijn Dec 24, 2017 @ 12:42am
There not even an AWC in WotC...
Digi-Mau Dec 23, 2017 @ 12:00am
Is this mod wotc compatible?
BlackSilver Nov 18, 2017 @ 4:17pm
Does it work with current saves? btw, nice mod you made here Sir -bg-. Didn't know they fucked up with the hidden abilities, I can't believe this got pass official client deployment.
-bg-  [author] Oct 14, 2017 @ 9:56pm
and save scum will not work because they already rolled the abilities the moment you hired them, this mod looks into that and unlock them.
-bg-  [author] Oct 14, 2017 @ 9:55pm
there it is, you got volatile mix. You CANNOT reroll AWC abilities without other mods.
The Magic Dave Oct 14, 2017 @ 8:30pm
My soldiers are max rank "Col" before the AWC was built, so there is no promotion screen available. I retrained two of them which were max rank and they just repeatedly get "Volitile mix" no matter how much i scum save... My sniper really doesnt need better grenades...
-bg-  [author] Oct 14, 2017 @ 5:49pm
this mod will grant the skill, just visit the promotion screen, retraining won't affect anything.
The Magic Dave Oct 14, 2017 @ 4:59pm
If my solider is already at Col rank can i still get the extra skill via retraining in the AWC?
Watts Oct 4, 2017 @ 10:34am
Thanks, very helpful mod. Great job!
initium Sep 14, 2017 @ 6:26am
Those of us not buying WotC just yet, very much appreciate these mods being kept alive. I expect there's a fair few of us too that aren't so sure that a DLC, at the same price as the base game, gives that much value. Especially when we have some outstanding mods and mod authors.
So thank you -bg-
eGregious Sep 8, 2017 @ 5:43am
Thanks for this mod!
Horagen81 Sep 2, 2017 @ 4:39am
@-bg-
Well Thank you for this great mod aswell as the time you had to invest in making and maintane it :)
T-13 Aug 31, 2017 @ 5:21pm
Good work bg!
RedPine Aug 29, 2017 @ 6:55pm
I'm going to miss not needing this mod. Thanks bg.
Zyrrashijn Aug 15, 2017 @ 10:12pm
I guess these changes will only apply to the Expansion. Not the base game. You won't be able to use an old save anyway.
-bg-  [author] Aug 15, 2017 @ 9:13am
yup and the new training center will replace choosable AWC perk partially as well with a more balanced system.
Lampros Aug 15, 2017 @ 7:15am
Dragon32,

Thanks! Now I am worried that my random class skill bonuses will be gone by and replaced by something worse! :(
Dragon32 Aug 15, 2017 @ 7:10am
@Lampros:
Yeah, the AWC is being replaced by a new facility, the Training Centre.

eXistenZ,

Huh? DLC will remove AWC?
eXistenZ Aug 15, 2017 @ 4:23am
I assume this mod will become obsolete, as the AWC gets removed?

They did fixed AWC once and they did specifically made soldiers at higher rank not get AWC ability clearly, however the fix also made sure soldiers acquired from black market that are generated after the AWC is built get their AWC perk.

So this might be a design decision to force the player to train a new squad after building AWC.
Dragon32 Jul 16, 2017 @ 3:00pm
I'm not sure you can say vanilla behaviour is a bug. Without a mod like this there's some incentive to develop troopers other than your original four, as they're more likely to miss out on the AWC bonus.
Having said that, I still use this mod.
Neo Kefka Jul 16, 2017 @ 2:01pm
This mod should 100% be in the base game. A soldier was TOO skilled when the AWC was built and therefore gets no ability forever? Absolutely stupid and plainly a bug. But Firaxis isn't even interested in fixing the memory leak that causes the Avenger hang so I imagine they'll never get to simple quality-of-life stuff. :steamsalty::steamsalty:
mutant Jul 14, 2017 @ 3:36pm
@Oscaretto

it is not a cheat, it's just plugging a loophole that firaxis left in unattended in the AWC bonus-perk feature.

Thing is in vanilla, if you recruit a soldier at rank N and the AWC assigned a perk to him that should trigger at rank N-M, then your soldier would never get the perk (devs just forgot to implement that scenario). This mod fixes that problem.
Zyrrashijn Jul 13, 2017 @ 4:47am
You could consider it a cheat, because it improves your game compared to vanilla. But it's a very mild one.
Kaminari Jul 13, 2017 @ 4:45am
Is this kind of a cheat or something? I just want to know, i think it's a fix, but i may be wrong

Hey Guys! Here is a list with compatible mods for LONG WAR 2.

Wolfiefang Feb 18, 2017 @ 7:57am
I can atleast state that I accidentally left this one and I have seen no side effects to Long War 2. So... if you go back and forth between LW2 and Vanilla, you don't need to panic about this mod. =)
Dragon32 Feb 18, 2017 @ 2:45am
@AceTheGreat:
Pretty sure that the changes LW 2 makes to the AWC mechanics render this mod unnecessary.
AceTheGreat Feb 17, 2017 @ 8:19pm
Compatible with Long War 2?
Cyborgt Feb 12, 2017 @ 2:13pm
@Dragon32: Ah, well ok then. I guess there's no problem.

That makes for some potentially ridiculously OP early soldiers though, depending on your luck of course. Almost makes me wonder if it would be worth the trouble to recruit large numbers of soldiers with the "To Serve Mankind" continent bonus and get them a couple ranks to see what you get.

Either way, I guess I don't have to worry about the mod having made my early game any easier.
Dragon32 Feb 12, 2017 @ 1:25pm
@Cyborgt:
it's intended for the rank you can get an ability to not be tied to the rank its class normally would so that it's possible for the AWC to assign Colonel rank abilities as a Lieutenant tier unlock
Yes, this is how it works.
Cyborgt Feb 12, 2017 @ 12:58pm
@Zyrrashijn: I'm not entirely certain what it is you're saying here but i'll clarify my own point just to be sure.

What I was saying was I built my AWC in the early-mid game when my soldiers were still mostly Lieutenant or lower rank but my specialist was immediately given the Colonel rank ability Rapid Fire. He WAS NOT a Colonel at the time he recieved this ability but I simply hadn't realized what happened in that moment because it's my first playthrough.

Now unless you're saying that it's intended for the rank you can get an ability to not be tied to the rank its class normally would so that it's possible for the AWC to assign Colonel rank abilities as a Lieutenant tier unlock then this strikes me as a problem.
Zyrrashijn Feb 12, 2017 @ 11:39am
Cyborgt: That's not how AWC perks work. Each soldier has a rank and a skill set to gain when the AWc is built or the soldier is recruited. Upon reaching that rank, the soldier will get the skill, which can be anything. So, it's totally possible that a corporal gets rapid fire. The only thing this mod does, is make the mechanic retroactive. So a soldier will get his skill, even if he is already higher ranked than the rank rolled for him by the awc.
