also dynamo flashlight w/o battery is really poor flicker mess
but who knows, maybe someone made way better one than i seen
The only downside on a dynamo flashlight would either be a long tube with a magnet that goes through them with uneven weight distribution, or an electric motor which can be spun by a handle - the motor would be smaller but add more weight than the tube option.
Either way, the cons don't affect the output of the device - only the battery can do that if using a non-led bulb - with an led bulb, as power dies down it'll do what a starter does - flicker and die when below illumination energy requirement - when just above the flickering is caused by drawing the power then the next phase being too low and so on...
You should've made it weigh more and take longer to recharge the device instead of making it heavier and useless.
The cons far outweigh the pros of being able to recharge it; I would've preferred one that could be recharged but took a long time ( because using this type of charging circuit you can charge batteries and with an LED you can have good brightness.. one of the issues with dynamo devices is poor batteries that fail after a very short time and don't hold a charge ). This is why I don't bother with it, the normal flashlight needs batteries but a battery can last a long time so finding new ones isn't a big deal.. What is missing is a decent way to recharge them when electricity is running, via a generator or using a dynamo charger.
You can get electronic scrap by taking apart things like earbuds and cd-players.
When you stop using the mod, or turn it off, and still have the item on your character, the game will treat it as an 'unknown item' which doesn't cause any errors. ^__^
I have to say, I'm very proud that I get to break your mod-usaging-virginity hahaha :D I hope you enjoy it! ^__^
Very good point on the drawback! I have indeed implemented this! :D and fully charged they don't last as long as the battery version, but seeing you can recharge them on the go, their shorter livespan shouldn't be an issue.
The sound I used is from the 'zipper' sound that the game uses for opening bags, but a little slower. So it even sounds like the real thing ;) I haven't fully had the time to test the sound range, but it should be less than the range of chopping trees. ^__^ Basicly, make sure you don't wind it up when trying to sneak past a horde :P
Update info: I'm planning to make them work on the 'reload' button, so you won't have to right click it in your inventory all the time :P
here is a link to the official forum post for the mod: http://theindiestone.com/forums/index.php/topic/16572-dynamo-flashlight-no-more-batteries-d/
@LazyDwarf I fully agree. If I recall correctly, they aren't that common in america, but over here I'm pretty sure everyone has heard of them, and they've been around since the 1800s (the first ones where used by coal miners). I for one know how to make them myself, and have a miniature one on my key ring at all times <3 specifically this one, which also has a solar cell: http://www.sorbo.cn/google/images/Gift_1.gif
So I was actually surprised it implimented before now :O
