At this point could either make the nails craftable or rename nails to fasteners and have them be craftable this way.

Disassembling a wooden floor made with dowels drops nails, but I guess this won't be fixed as the mod wasn't updated in a long while

This mod works fine. Please check that you have a hammer and a screwdriver in your inventory when you try to use the dowels.

The mod currently is bugged for the magazine. Reading it will not get you the ability to build using dowels, you have to pick the trait on character creation if you intend to use this mod.

This doesn't seem to work any more. All nail prompts still say they require nails, and won't accept the dowels I have.

A very cool and realistic mod! I took classes in timber construction so there are two details you should know that maybe you could add in an update. In timber construction a wooden dowel is called a "pin" in English. You would not be able to drive a pin with a screwdriver. You can make pins (dowels) out of scrap wood. Maybe 1 - 2 dowels out of 1 scrap wood?

Dammit, same as @Spacecowboy08z This mod doesn't appear to work. I can make the dowels, but all the build options still say they require nails. That really messes with my hope of building anything in a world with extremely low loot settings

Hey, just a heads up, I'm getting a glitch where I'm getting 2 "Dowels enthusiast" perks in the character creation screen. reinstalling temporarily fixed it, but not for long. thought you'd want to know. thanks for your work!

im lvl 1 carpentry, read the mag, have dowels, planks, screwdriver, hammer.. anything im missing? still unable to build anything with the dowels. build menu only offers the nail recipes

@The_Mighty_Clinthulhu It should yes, but your current character will not know the recipes regardless of its profession and you will have to find the magazine in "not yet open" containers. But I don't see how there can be any risk for a save!

They kinda just started doing that out of nowhere, my modlist haven't changed nor does anything to the corresponding traits. Not really a problem unless MP considered, 12 free myopia points just like that lol

@Onkeen, my wooden dowels traits triplicate in the window where one should appear when choosing any profession with carpentry.
As for sight traits, taking and then removing any of them, or Short sighted, causes the issue on my side

@Onkeen, you should probably know all the traits added by your mods triplicate on lists, allowing one to choose the same one repeatedly. Also professions giving dowels start with 3 instances of that trait on list

@TheToblin It is fixed now! Quite wierd bug, looks like having a url in mod description caused the issue it never had before. Thanks for warning me about this, I had to remove my local mod to make sure it is good but yeah it is all good now :)

Mod update 1.7 working for build 41:
- Updated list of crafts to match current carpentry capabilities
- Added recipe requirement for dowels knowledge
- New trait and occupation integration
- New magazine to learn wooden dowel crafting
- Screwdriver is now required for build menu
- 3D models for dropped/placed dowels and magazine
- Crafting dowels produces additional wooden leftovers
- Higher carpentry skill yields more results when crafting dowels

Moreover, I saw your changes and some messages mentioning that Screwdriver should be used to create the holes and not the dowels themselves. It was the initial idea but I didn't know how to implement it back then so I placed the requirement in the dowel recipe. But I managed to do it in the right place with the last update, alongside other changes that I have been meaning to implement for a long time!

Thanks again Afrothundaaaa for allowing PZ players, feel free to piggyback texture, code and fixes from this update into your mod if you want to keep an alternative version that better fits your way of seeing how dowels should work! :spiffo:

I'm back to zomboid mod programming after a long time, all the intermediate versions seemed quite unstable to me so I preferred to wait to update my mod (fancy way to say I was procrastinating). But Indie Stone announced that the current version would be deployed soon so I thought it was time to roll up my sleeves! And so it happens they have fully released the b41 update now!

Thanks a lot Afrothundaaaa for keeping the mod concept alive during this time. It's nice to see that the community still finds a way to maintain what they like and even adapt it to their needs. In that sense, this dowels mod was a way for me to add advanced construction techniques to the game. And in that sense, I really like the fact that building with dowels requires more resources and brings more experience.

Hello Everyone. I have been unhappy with having make the changes to this mod (see my comment below) every time i reinstall/redownload this mod.

Due to this, I have made a v41.55+ compatible version that also works with the Improved Build Menu mod. See my mod here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2627812902 .

I've credited Onkeen with the original idea, but I've just reworked it a bit. I'm looking to also work in 3d objects for the new 41.55 update.

This works on 41.54, but there are some issues:

Garden Saw isn't able to create wooden dowels.

41.54's Carpentry Menu update not reflected in this mod.

Dowel Carpentry menu not searching containers for resources, requiring items in the main inventory.

I would hope @Onkeen will update the mod; otherwise, I'd be willing to help out as this is one of my favorite mods. In the meantime, any players that want to change this for themselves just need to do the following:

Find your 'workshop' folder in the steam install directory, look for the 108600 folder, and inside there look for the folder 498634342. Find the 'Scripts' folder and replace the text "Keep Saw" with "Keep Saw/GardenSaw" on lines 21 and 34

The other two features, I don't believe would be easily fixable via instructions in the comment section of this mod, and really should warrant a code update instead of a hacky hack to try to get it to work lol.
