Just completed this, really enjoyed it. Some of the puzzles were a bit obscure but found help on here. Its always a bit gutting at the end when you are equipped with the best weapons but no enemies to use them on.

This has been a very enjoyable mod. I am stuck, however in the castle in the same room mentioned in the last couple of posts. The one with the X does not mark the spot message. The note that I have does not correspond exactly to the room. In the note, here is a zero in the centre of the most Southerly row, where the room has a grate, and therefore no plate to weight. I read the solution below, which I can't really connect with the two clues, and even following the recipe I don't get a door. If you still look here, can you help?

Pretty big mod, very long and interesting. But... damn confusing. Often I just have to work out what's going on inside the creators head. I do recommend it, it was fun... but I've not finished it. Finding some walls that just happen to be walk throughable, or finding a button on one side of the map to open a door on the other side is just a bit much. Kudos to the creator though, it must've taken a lot of work to make this. But my patience has run out.

Thank you for your praise I truly appreciate it. I always planned to do a second mod with the release of LoG 3... but alas it appears that may not happen. Never know what may happen though as I am currently studying Computer Science at university and am learning to code which I'm sure will only give me more inspiration as that is where my experience lacks so it would be nice to be able to script better instances.

As to the bug I am aware of it and have had an update in the pipeline for so long now its just my focus at the moment has been on my daughter and my studies so outside of that in my spare time I've just been gaming.

I ran into one bug that almost had me locked in the lower level of Castle Xarlax. The room that says X does not mark the spot the puzzle doe snot trigger correctly. So after putting the stones in the right spot I had to grab them and place them again and then the wall opened.

Kudos on the MOD mate it was fantastic. I kind of wished you had or will create more MODs and maybe used some assets from Nexus too. It does not look like we will get LoG 3 and thus far all the grid games I have played do not have the extensive modding and are not really close to what Grimrock gives me as far as that old school feeling. I am still binging on MODs now

Thanks again and if you have the time I highly encourage a Sequel to Xarlax it was super fun!

I ended with 73/76 and all levels explored and a straight up Hulk Minotaur with so many heads... wow. I ended up playing on hard from a level 1 party but since you said it was recommended for a level 12 party I spawned them all like 4 skill tomes at the start. Invisibility was a must for the epic fights. And the boss fights were perfect not just some absolute madness of mobs all packed together. That final fight with stages was awesome!

I just completed the MOD and wow you have some serious skills in level design. I think you said this was your first MOD and there was some really cool and unique levels and interiors. All those blue lights and tombs on the walls in the trials area was really cool and that myrtle area where there are all the crazy plant people. I really appreciate the cues for secrets and the notes... like really really. So many Modders throw in random levers all over with no hint to what it opens. It felt like I was discovering things as I went like a RPG should instead of confused and back tracking.

Hi,
Just to clarify there are some empty parts to the south of the Hidden Coastline map that are unaccessible if that is what you are asking about. As it is blocked by the mountains and trees unlike the magical entrance to the map.

I believe I have finished. Defeated the master. Am I supposed to go back somewhere's? I got a run time error trying to go back and see if the force fields were gone in the one section. Kept on thinking I was almost done and still another floor I would enter. Very nice as I said before.

You did an outstanding job on this one. I am working from time to time on my first one and know how much time and effort you must have put into this. I am trying to learn all the tricks and making lots of mistakes but am having fun. I don't know if I will ever post it as I haven't got an idea yet how to do it. I will let you know if I run into any more problems I run into in your mod.

Yeah I will agree its a bit long. I bit off more than I could chew initially when I planned this however I was too far committed to go backwards and already put so much time into it. I'm glad you are enjoying it though and hope you manage it to completion. As a first time mod i'm still proud with what I was able to accomplish as it took a lot out of me trying to learn everything. I so should have started smaller. Hindsight as they say.... In any case if you happen to get stuck further down the rabbit hole let me know and I will help.

Thanks, the only room I didn't go into. Thought I was going to have to go way back somewhere's to get it. On my way again. Super mod. This is my second try as I had got stumped my first time through and moved on. I think maybe just a little to long.

Assuming I remember which part you are up to, within the Castle Xarlax Living Quarters, the map you need is located within an alcove in one of the rooms to the north-west quadrant. This should unlock the secret passage ways gaining access to the remaining rooms.

If I have deciphered you incorrectly let me know and I will look into it further for you.

If anyone is still around, where can I find the "map" needed. I have 3 maps but not the right one I guess. Nothing happens when I set one on the shelf. I have unlocked all the door. I need to finish this mod.

I played this mod 3 years ago, and it was one of the best I've played for Grimrock 2.

Been playing it again now and suddenly there seems to be a bug in Castle Xarlax Dungeons.
In the room with "X does not mark the spot" and the 8 demon heads on the wall, I put the stones like a plus sign, without the center plate, and then on the plates in front of the heads, but nothing happens? I read in an earlier thread that this is the right way to do it.

Is there suddenly a bug that wasn't there before?
Don't remember what was supposed to happen, but now I'm locked in this room with no way out :(

I did finish the mod the first time I played it, so it was no bug in this room back then.

I see the last commentary here was almost a year ago, so I don't know if anyone will read this?

From memory, on each level of the slums is a switch that allows you to go higher which will allow you to find a lever to unlock a section that will allow you to drop down a hole into the sewers.

The 3x blue force fields will unlock near the end of the game and to progress the story you will need to open a way into the sewers from the slums map to retrieve an item.

OK, I passed the vision trial, I was weighting the pressure pads with the lights, not those without lights :steamfacepalm:

Trial by vision: It should just be the unlit pressure plates and the two buttons that open the way. It should be working to my knowledge as I and many others didn't have an issue.

Faragorn ruins: I am a little confused as to why this isnt working for you, ive tried testing it in the editor but it keeps crashing on me so if I get a chance to look into it further I will try to respond later on today.

Trial by vision seems broken I put rocks on all the tiles that have lights above them but nothing happens. also there are two buttons on the walls that do not seem to have any effect.??

faragorn ruins, block puzzle. I light up the blue square with the secret button on the west wall, but I cannot push a block from this square south onto the orange square ??

Is the Author still around for this mod? There are so many tables with no clues as to what needs to be put on them. My party can't carry any more stuff because one thinks that they have to save everything because you don't know what you will need. Still looking for an answer to the 9 pressure plate puzzle. Most likely there is nothing in the other room that I need or won't know where to use it. I'm now stuck in the Underground Temple/Rats Nest and can't get out. Help anyone that is still playing this mod.

thank you, that's all I needed, I have finished your dungeon. I will say the final fight feels a bit too longish, but only because the wizard has the invul shield. it is an otherwise wonderful setup.

Seems you made it through to the sewers a different way, the way I described is the most common way. The only option now is to gain access to the Thieves Guildhall which is unlocked via the sewers you are in, from there you can portal out once you have unlocked a certain section of it. The main entrance to the Thieves Guildhall can be found to the north-east section of the sewers. There are a few puzzles to solve to gain access. If you have any issues let me know.

i found the stairs with a chest only with a scroll and nothing else. and the door is shut down how can i open it?

You can exit the Castle Xarlax Sewers from the central-western part of the map. These stairs bring you back up to the surface level of Castle Xarlax Slums.
