People don't get that this more or less adds hunting posts, not lookout towers.
Seems gud tho

Perfect as is. Thank you very much.

Lookout Towers should permet you to see over 20 tiles outside your cities to see if enemy are near and give you the chance for preparing yourself to defend..... in my mind that is a real LOOKOUT TOWER.
Evil Paragon Jul 19, 2017 @ 4:56pm
Oh damn. While it's not as great as it could be as others have suggested combat and sight bonuses, it's still a fairly decent jungle improvement.
Zersetzung Dec 23, 2015 @ 2:17pm
Make these act like a mountain where archers can shoot farther

@Masoff Dane lick

you mean have them actually do what lookout towers are for?? oh, holy ****!!!!
Tim Walz's Horse Jan 21, 2015 @ 4:14am
It'd be cool if they can improve your sight radius as well.

@ 3rdSS Click subscribe. If you are on a Mac, then you are out of luck, because there isn't an alternate download.
Things this mod has:
~3D art (good job, it's fairly rare!)

~ Improvement has a use in-game
Things it Needs:
~The towers should be aligned in a straght line preferably

~A little youching up, adding details, like a flag depending on the civ, or shingles

~Increased compatibility with other main mods ( Cultural diversity, YNAEMP, Event's and decisions, etc.)

~ Severly needs buff, almost useless

~a unit should be able to station inside it, increasing defensive strength and increasing sight by 1-2

~ Current effect makes no sense

Final Grade- 7/10

Yes I like it but..... found that it is not compatible with the Slave mod.
old man Slak3r Jan 1, 2015 @ 11:00am
okay im going to try it .
Altyn Dec 31, 2014 @ 11:50pm
could you make it so it gives a defensive bonus for a unit stationed in it or make it have its own sight like a unit was stationed in it even if one isnt? that would be great IMO
Sir Charles Dewitt Dec 31, 2014 @ 9:38pm
There is a mod which makes forts and citadels give one extra sight, so it is possible....you could potentially use that as a model for adding extra sight for lookout towers
pl_odyssey Dec 31, 2014 @ 6:33pm
It would be cool if it provided a defense bonus for any unit stationed on the improvement.

Good job on the model Artisanix!
wampower99 Dec 30, 2014 @ 7:58am
does it actually act as a lookout tower? Like it gives +1 or +2 sight?
eric.engelhard7 Dec 29, 2014 @ 5:23pm
it would be great if this added visibility range.
Techne Dec 29, 2014 @ 12:53pm
Cool idea! I LOVE tile improvements so I look forward to trying it out. Great work on the model. Can it be applied to a game in progress?

Also, it would be neat to see a variation on this whereby (perhaps in the modern era) a tower turned forests and jungles into nature preserves, adding +culture or +science (or both).

@artisanix

This is a new custom model, impressive =)

@Maguyver
I was rather reffering to satdanov's propositions, which are quite interesting, but require some time on my side to research the posibilities. And I prefer to spend such time on 3D/2D instead of coding ;]

And adding defense bonus is trivial, all you need to do is to add at the end of the code in Improvement_LookoutTowers.sql file the following lines:

UPDATE Improvements
SET DefenseModifier=25
WHERE Type='IMPROVEMENT_LOOKOUTTOWERS';

Maguyver Dec 28, 2014 @ 4:01pm
I haven't tested it yet, but if you are interested in the defense bonus it should work to add to the 'INSERT INTO Improvements' key "DefenseModifier" and then the number into the values field. I'm going to try 25 and see how that works. Not trying to convince you or anything, but throwing it out there none the less. I'm grateful that you shared your work, and look forward to having it in game. Thanks!

Nice mod artisanix - and VERY nice model and texture.
I'm also trying to use Deliverator's NB2, but can't get it to work. I have a model in a .gr2 file, which I very much would like to have converted to the correct format. Would you be up for helping me?
You can send me a pm on civfanatics: http://forums.civfanatics.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=254074
artisanix  [author] Dec 28, 2014 @ 2:36pm
Scripting such effects is beyond the field of my expertise. First and foremost I intended to share the model, so the other modders could take it and do with it as they please. In opposition to modeling and texturing, adding this stuff to the game was the most boring part of the whole process for me ;]
Maguyver Dec 28, 2014 @ 2:34pm
Or perhaps +50% defense, which I think I am going to just go ahead and add myself on my end. Love the model/graphics though, thanks.
Robo-Pig Dec 28, 2014 @ 2:21pm
To be more realistic, maybe they should also give +1 sight to units on the same tile? Or, if they're on the outskirts of your borders, they can increase the amount of land you see beyond the borders.
