I totally get not being a graphical designer but trust me when I say most people would be significantely more receptive even if you just used a nice screenshot of somewhere on the map. It will look better and will actually sell the quality of your work to people at a glance.
Thanks for pointing that out. I've come across similar comments. Personally, I use AI to obtain graphics that I couldn't create myself, as I'm not a skilled graphic designer or artist. I'd like to say that the AI is just a tool here - like Paint/Gimp/Photoshop. The idea (the prompt) comes from me personally - the image represents what I imagine, but I could only create a stick figure drawing myself ;) And professional artists are out of my budget.
If someone were to create a new logo and two main menu images, I'd be happy to replace the existing ones. With online images, I'm always at risk of copyright claims. Currently, I'm still working solo on the mod, although I've had offers of help, nothing has come of it yet.
But I'll make sure to include a note about AI usage in the workshop description to provide transparency. ;)
Thx again
Prototype is basically a game in which a virus infects the city of Manhattan and it has some cool concept art showing infected people and military at Time Square or other areas of Manhattan https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2900892589
Perhaps it would be worth checking out. Best of lucks!
You know what's missing?
References to the show "Impractical Jokers". Maybe other movies and shows too.
@yetionthehill24: Unfortunately, it's not that simple, especially when it comes to maintaining compatibility. The game mechanics also have some limitations. I have an idea that I'll look into for the next update - the recommended ladder mod works with 3 vanilla ladders, and I'm already using two of them. I could repaint the third ladder to remove the shadow and make it "freestanding". With the mod, it could work. We'll see.
@Bob: Yeah, Manhattan would definitely be a death trap :D In the game, I've reduced the zombie spawn rate (with this update). You can now survive on the streets in "Apocalypse" mode :D
@Righty: For now, I'm only planning Manhattan and the surrounding islands. Queens could be attached to Manhattan, but without more help, it'll be a while before I get to it.

After I've finished the next update, I'll take a look at the Reddit post – there are sure to be some good ideas there.
PS I wrote this on reddit

I'll try to upload the update this weekend. I'm currently still missing the last buildings in Chelsea that I need to update from B41 to B42. I'll also make sure that the elevators are functional (if you subscribe to the gunslinger mod). Additionally, I'll be supporting ladders in the next update (which requires the mod from co`). I've also fixed a number of bugs that I introduced in the early days. The houses are much prettier, often have rooftop access or fire escapes, and some are taller than before. A few animal zones have also been added to Chelsea.
The onboarding of supporters is also progressing, and if you're interested in helping with building, you can learn more on Discord.
I'm currently working on the Penn Station (Madison Square Garden). In B41, I only had the buildings on the surface - with B42, the subway stations and the train station underground are now being added. Once I'm done with that, I'll need to review about 50% of the remaining buildings (elevators, possibly more floors, mailboxes, B41-B42 updates, animals, etc.). Then I can upload the update.
I'm still updating Chelsea from B41 to B42. I think I'll be finished next weekend. Some buildings are bigger now, especially at Hudson Yards. I also built the Lincoln Tunnel (screenshots on Discord).
- More floors for certain buildings.
- I'll add some basements.
- I need to build 1 subway tunnel (no subway station).
- I need to build 2 railway tunnel as well as Penn Station.
- I need to build the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel.
- B42 currently includes some bugs, I'm trying to eliminate a few of them with workarounds.
- I'll add my new mailboxes and floor signs to the buildings.
- I'll check all elevators to make sure they work with the gunslinger's elevator mod.
- I'll add one or two animal zones.
- Created a Discord server, especially for people who want to support me with mapping.
- Onboarding of the first supporters.
- Created a Google MyMap for a better overview of progress with less effort.
- Researched a problem with the in-game maps - unfortunately not solvable since B42.11, so the in-game map will be incomplete in some places for now.
- Learned animal zones with try-and-error, wrote a tutorial for the community about this and implemented it in Central Park.
- Communication with various modders.
- Designed new tilesets (mailboxes, floor signs, subway doors, etc.).
- Added helicopter mod support.
- Built first buildings in the Upper East Side.
The Discord server is now online - please bear with me, I've set up my own Discord for the first time. On the Discord, you as a player are welcome to share screenshots of your gaming experiences in Manhattan, give me feedback, suggestions and report bugs.
If you'd like to support me with the mod, you can also contact me there and you'll be activated for the supporter channels. I'm still looking for modders to help me, for example, with creating the buildings – that's a real time-waster. Whether it's regular blocks or landmarks – write to me in Discord how you'd like to help. Skins, tilesets, or other things are also welcome.
I'll also be posting new screenshots there frequently and publishing the patch notes there – just like here on the workshop page – when there's an update.
I've had to stop working on B41 because the two aren't compatible. So if you're playing B41, you'll only be able to play my mod in version 0.06. For B42, you can currently play 0.09. I'm currently working on 0.10.
IM LITERALLY BEGGIGN YOU THIS SEEMS SO FREAKING COOL I WANNA PLAY ALL OF MANHATTEN (which i know is a very hard thing to do cuz its a very big city) BUT PLEASE BRO PLLEEEAAASE
I am aware that the limitation is 32 stories high, but it would be interesting to observe the overall gist of the towers in this map from the mall, to the lobby, to the mechanical floors, to the offices, and the roofs.
@Sheen Boah: Definitely ;) But I'll get to the southern part of the map later. First, I'll build Upper East and then Upper West Manhattan. Then I'll slowly work my way south.
According to the editor, the maximum number of floors a building can have in Zomboid is 32. This number also counts for basements. If the building has two basement levels, it can only be 30 stories high.
There are a few tricks to get around this, for example by placing a building on top of another building. I haven't checked myself whether there is a hard cap in the game. I currently set my buildings to a maximum of 30 stories above ground. The tallest building in vanilla has 27 floors and a roof as the 28th floor. You also have to keep in mind that every roof - even flat roofs - counts as a floor. If I add a helipad or tall antennas, I have to take that into account.
My Chelsea buildings are still designed for B41, with a maximum of 8 floors. I might rework them again. Unfortunately, Zomboid isn't actually designed for such a densely built, high-rise city, so I'll have to scale them down a bit.
Right now, I'm focused on building houses in the Upper East Side - the next spawn region.
I'll be uploading an update within the next hour to make the mod playable again.
@Hx: The profession was just for testing purposes, I'll be removing it with today's update. At some point, I might add my own custom professions, similar to how I'm planning to add newspapers and radio stations from Manhattan.
