Oh yeah, I see what you mean. Nah what I figured was the cell would just be ejected as if it were empty and the ammo itself would just magically return to your inventory or something lol. Rather than have a physical mag with the remaining ammo spawn on eject.

The magazine entity is made up of two objects, mag and capsule, the mag is discarded and the capsule inserted. The capsule can't be put in the backpack so I would have to spawn a new mag on eject or write custom backpack code which is a lot for this project

It's something I'm still researching since I'm releasing duel wielding soon. The cell in the smg is a small part of the magazine (which is discarded after inserting), so it might be a bit jarring to have a magazine appear if the cell is ejected.

I haven't found any way to eject from the smg or shotgun, they seem to be way more internally bound than the pistol.

Hey Frost, is there a possibility of Combine SMG support? I was thinking of the ability to press the other button on the controller to eject the cell prematurely to replace it with a fresh one, and maybe(?) it somehow keeps the leftover rounds from the ejected cell?

Sorry for taking so long to respond, Steam doesn't give me proper notifications. I found out the problem, I was just an idiot. I installed the mod and tried using it on my pre existing save. I made a new save and it worked just fine! I love it!

What happens when you store partial ammo in your backpack in campaign, do you get any ammo at all? Can you share a list of mods you're using alongside it?

So the issue I'm experiencing with the mod is. It doesn't work in the main story. But DOES work in the Bioshock Mod. What the heck?!

v1.2.0 uses an alternative ammo tracking method for "USP Match (Half-Life 2 Pistol)" automatically. It's not quite as robust because magazines need to be inserted at least once before ammo can be determined. If ammo count is still inconsistent please let me know.

If the skeletal structure is different to the base game then calculations will be off. This mod works by testing the position of a model bone against a pre-determined table of values. I don't know of a foolproof way for getting the current ammo in any custom magazine (beyond hard coding each addon).

further testing now shows that only after 7 shots is the threshhold before you can partially reload. so if you attempt a reload below that number, yer S.O.L use that ammo wisely now

okay examining the patterns it looks like I can only store magazines that are in the "orange" as in I literally cannot store ammunition after like 2-3 shots, there are SOME limitations still but I can technically still store partially empty mags but only if it is in the "orange" (I am using the USP replacement mod which helps determine this)

Okay, I can 100% confirm that it has something to do with the left handed controls. As soon as the weapon hand is switched, the mod suddenly works. Also sorry to hear about your PC, dude.

I can see where this left handed bug would exist, unfortunately it might be several days before I can upload a fix due to a dead PC.

I've been trying the mod as well and it works exacty as intended, but not for him. The only difference between us is he's playing the game left handed.

A friend of mine is trying out the mod, but when he tries to store half-empty mags the mag disappears in his backpack but the ammo is not added to the reserves. It simply vanishes. He's using the left handed gun option, if this matters. Any idea what the issue could be?

Make sure both mods are enabled from the main menu.

When you start a new game you must select "Start Game With Addons" and the panel on the right will show which addons you are starting the game with. You cannot load a saved game with new addons.

After starting the game open the console with '~' and type "AlyxLib" into the filter bar to make sure it is running. If not something unusual is occuring.

Are there any other mods enabled that might conflict?

Friend is not able to comment here, so asked me to do. He has all installed, even the AlyxLib, but games still states, that he can put only full clips in the backpack.

For me, it happens around 7 out of 10 times (estimation) i empty my pistol or when i pick up a magazine. I don't know if there's a way to make it consistently happen bcs like i said, it only happens 70% of the time

Was this any time you picked up a magazine? Is there a way you can consistently make it happen that I replicate?
I haven't experienced this but maybe the disabling I do causes a hint progress reset somehow.

Yeah that was an issue I had too. It kept constantly reminding me any time I grabbed a magazine that "magazines can be stored in the backpack" and wouldn't go away.

We all know that magazines are actually stored in the balls.

In all seriousness I had to disable hints via console.

On the contrary actually, i was saying that reloading hints show up when they shouldn't. Partial mag hints don't appear so that's working as intended.
I'm not actually sure if this mod was really the cause, but the hints appeared after i installed this mod so i just assumed that was the case.

Are you saying it causes some hints to sometimes not show when they normally would when you're storage a partial clip?
It dynamically disables the hint system to avoid the "partial mag" hint so this would be why.

For some reason this makes controller hints when reloading (put ammo in backpack, grab ammo from shoulder, etc) show up like 70% of the time, but it can be fixed with a launch option command that disables all hints.

Hi Gordon, unfortunately Valve did not give us any way to add custom pistol ammo through scripts (as far as I'm aware) so I think it won't be possible

I did notice though that it's not compatible with weapons with custom magazines (in my case, Shooter Revived USP which has 18 rounds, so you lose 8 rounds as it only stores 10), and the mod isn't compatible with the Gunman Contracts.
