I've updated the list of other map mods in the description. I wanted to show you guys some other options, for when this mod finally breaks.

Cheers.

Surprisingly, these maps appear to remain functional without additional work. Updated for 1.16.0.

Paradox came out with a dev blog detailing the next big update shortly after my previous post. I think the changes to steppes and the new nomad government will definitely break this mod. CTD kind of break.

I see a new modder, sateuia440, is making these kinds of map mods for the current version of the game. He calls them "Mapsclusive" and has a bunch already. I'll put a link to them in my map mods' descriptions. I'm sure their will be new modders to take up the mantle of making smaller maps after the nomad update.

I can also see that few of my mods have lost all their preview pictures for some reason. Now it's all like "Missing Image: rh_1.jpg" or similar. I think this is more likely a Steam issue. We'll see if it fixes itself, but I'm not keen on reinstalling just to recreate some pictures either.

Hey, jaimulani98. I'm not sure what could be causing the issues you're seeing. It's still messed up without Historical Invasions?

I'm very sorry to you and to anyone who enjoys my mods, but I'll no longer be updating them. It's been a few months since I last touched CK3. With a play time of 1051 hours, I've had my fill of the game and I no longer have it installed.

It took me a long time to fix this mod when RoP came out, it completely broke my mods and I had to practically rebuilt them all from scratch. I've accepted that the game will eventually render these mods unplayable. I'm not at all keen on reinstalling the game just to go through the process of trouble-shooting and fixing these mods again. It's too much work for no reward.

could you please update your maps to current version, I really enjoy focusing on certain regions and playing, these mods are a gam changer but sadly the characters are outdated in the sense that after the lastest update they look weird compared to the actual game. For instance, Ghurid looks very different and characters in India have weird homogenic faces. I am not using any other mods but historical invasions.

I've done a few of these now and my process has changed from his.

I do #2 before #1.
#3 and #4 aren't necessary, I don't do them.

I use paint .net and notepad++.

1. The most important part is provinces.png in map_data. You need to paint the baronies you wish to remove in color of the impassible terrain. Make sure you don't mess up the color format when you save changes, it's important. I recommend trying to remove some small part first to see if it works and you're doing everything correctly. I use GIMP, but most of graphics editors should do.

2. Removing titles from 00_landed_titles in common/landed_titles. I use Visual Code, but Notepad will do just fine too.

3. Remove the affected holy sites in common/religion/religions. I also remove them from common/religions/holy_sites, but I'm not sure if that's really necessary. I don't know if you can have a religion with no holy sites, so in cases where I have to remove all of them I add one still existing just in case.

4. common/scripted_triggers. Just copy from my mod. Needed so it doesn't crash with T&T.
iPlayPoorly  [author] Oct 5, 2024 @ 2:27pm
5. Removing affected historical characters, because they have a tendency to show up in game as wandering characters and fill the courts. That's history/characters and history/titles (that one may not be necessary).

6. Removing affected bookmarks.

That's the rough outline. Feel free to ask if you have further questions.
iPlayPoorly  [author] Oct 5, 2024 @ 2:26pm
Mmm. I'd rather not. I'm a shy guy and that level of 1-on-1 with a stranger makes me nervous.

I'll repost Starmender's short guide here, that's what got me started.
The Champ Oct 5, 2024 @ 9:48am
Could I add you on discord? I'm curious about the process on how to make modifications like this
iPlayPoorly  [author] Sep 26, 2024 @ 10:13am
Expanded the map a little, adding in the following to the west;
The kingdoms of Croatia, Serbia, Sicily, Sardinia, Africa, Damot, and Outer Ajuraan
The duchy of Latium
The counties of Venice, Genoa, Pisa, and Ravenna

And the following to the east;
The kingdoms of Zhetysu, Dzungaria(Qocho), and Mongolia

Impassable terrain should fill in with colour again if it's surrounded by the same realm. All lakes, the big desert in southern Arabia, and the desert in the Tarim basin don't seem to fill in.
iPlayPoorly  [author] Sep 25, 2024 @ 3:19pm
Updated.

There's still some wrinkles to be ironed out but those can be done later.
iPlayPoorly  [author] Sep 24, 2024 @ 12:02pm
I didn't expect so much restructuring and edits in the code coming with the new update. It will take longer than I expected to update my mods. I'll be doing them in this order:
Focused Map - Legacy of Persia
Focused Map - Legacy of Persia Extended
Focused Map - Northern Lords
Focused Map - Fate of Iberia
Focused Map - Northern Lords + MNR2 Compatch
WyldFaerie Aug 4, 2024 @ 7:51am
Wrong mod I commented on but thanks! I tried with Fate Of Iberia but it kept crashin'. Then again, I wanted to use Divine Cheat Menu mod.
iPlayPoorly  [author] Aug 3, 2024 @ 7:05pm
No way without some tweaks. Hyrule only changes things around Iberia so it's possible to get it to work with the Fate of Iberia version of this mod.
WyldFaerie Aug 3, 2024 @ 5:07pm
So there's no way to use this with the Kingdom Of Hyrule mod? Bummer.
iPlayPoorly  [author] Aug 3, 2024 @ 2:09am
Updated to play nice with CFP and EPE's title-targeted scripts. They're now compatible.
iPlayPoorly  [author] Aug 1, 2024 @ 11:58pm
I also moved the Mongol spawn location to Otrar. I'm good with that choice for the smaller version of this map, but don't know with the extended version. There's not a great deal of consensus among the maps I've looked at because many are imprecise, all blobs and large sweeping arrows.

I think the Mongols entered the Tarim Basin first but, as I understand it, they didn't push through it to conquer further west.

So I wrestled a bit with whether to spawn them where they'd first appear on the map or where their invasion of the Middle East properly began. I went with the latter. It's a quick, easy, and non-disruptive change to make either way.

I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts on this minor thing.
iPlayPoorly  [author] Aug 1, 2024 @ 11:34pm
Alrighty, Khotan is in. I chose to leave Tibet as it is for the points that were made. Removing Qinghai would be removing part of the Silk Road. And it would make the Tarim Basin disjointed in turn, with it's Northeastern provinces jutting out in isolation.

I highly recommend starting a new game with this update.

Apologies to those who are already committed to their campaigns. It won't break them, but the updated area will get real weird. @Kingfisher made me do it.
iPlayPoorly  [author] Aug 1, 2024 @ 10:46pm
Good enough for me. And better sooner than later, I suppose.
Kingfisher Aug 1, 2024 @ 2:46am
Adding the Tarim Basin sounds great. It was an important part of the Silk Road, and not having it makes Tibet/Qinghai a bit disjointed from the rest of the map imo.
iPlayPoorly  [author] Aug 1, 2024 @ 1:03am
So, adding the Tarim Basin isn't save compatible. During my trial, the Byzantine Empire will swoop in to fill the power vacuum of those leaderless lands and the de jures will get all messed up. I wouldn't recommend loading a save after the basin is added, which is why I'm now reluctant to do so.

Everything looks good if a new game is started. If a few more people are vocal about wanting the Tarim Basin and being okay with restarting, then I'll implement it. And maybe reduce Tibet at the same time.
iPlayPoorly  [author] Jul 31, 2024 @ 11:51pm
I'll take the Tarim Basin into serious consideration. I should've restored Turan when I extended the map East anyway. And it should be save game compatible.

I'm less inclined towards cutting Tibet in half. It will definitely break saves and make them crash. I want to affect on-going games as little as possible when I make changes.
Riaman Jul 31, 2024 @ 8:27pm
Fair logic, but in my opinion cut Tibet by half. Just have western Tibet (most of area under Tibet province of PRC) and have Tarim basin. Then it would be perfect legend of Persia map for India focused players. Great work though.
iPlayPoorly  [author] Jul 31, 2024 @ 7:42pm
I'll try to think of different way to do this if a lot of people really want those areas to get covered by their realm.
iPlayPoorly  [author] Jul 31, 2024 @ 7:41pm
With color, I purposely painted all impassable terrain with the same brush so that it wouldn't get colored in. Because in vanilla impassable provinces will be colored in by a single ruler on its borders.

I was worried that something like in these mods would happen, where everything outside the playable area would appear to be owned by one realm.

'Only Britain' by Viegnar, where the world appears to be owned by Wessex.

Or 'Ireland Only' by inym, where the world appears to be owned by Dublin.

@jaimulani98
Fixed the issue with Gondwana and the others, thanks for pointing it out.

To be honest, I've never started a game in India so I can't tell when things are off. Let me know if you catch anything else.
jaimulani98 Jul 31, 2024 @ 6:40am
Hi, thank you so much for implementing this from our last conversation! Just a small query, why are the impassable terrains not covered by realms anymore? like why is it highlighted empty compared to the base game?? Also in the 1066 start date there are certain changes in India for example the Gondwana kingdom held by Cedis and few other duchies in north central india are just independent counts instead of the base game historically accurate dynasties?
iPlayPoorly  [author] Jul 31, 2024 @ 3:02am
@Riaman
Hiya. I never felt it was. The smaller version of map is where I want the boundaries to be for Legacy of Persia. My reasoning under the 'Why' section is meant for that and doesn't mention Tibet at all. The description for this mod is just copy pasted from that, out of laziness.

This extended version was borne from idea of making another map that focuses on India. I felt that Persia would be an important part of that, which would make it overlap with the Iranian Intermezzo focused map. I didn't want to double dip into the same area, so I tacked it onto the project I was already working on.

In short, this version is sort of for players who want to play in India. Tibet is there for their sake.

I hope that's a fair explanation.
Riaman Jul 31, 2024 @ 1:37am
Lmao how is Tibet more related to what happens in Iran as compared to tarim basin and rest of turan (stepped).
