Cheers.
I see a new modder, sateuia440, is making these kinds of map mods for the current version of the game. He calls them "Mapsclusive" and has a bunch already. I'll put a link to them in my map mods' descriptions. I'm sure their will be new modders to take up the mantle of making smaller maps after the nomad update.
I'm very sorry to you and to anyone who enjoys my mods, but I'll no longer be updating them. It's been a few months since I last touched CK3. With a play time of 1051 hours, I've had my fill of the game and I no longer have it installed.
It took me a long time to fix this mod when RoP came out, it completely broke my mods and I had to practically rebuilt them all from scratch. I've accepted that the game will eventually render these mods unplayable. I'm not at all keen on reinstalling the game just to go through the process of trouble-shooting and fixing these mods again. It's too much work for no reward.
I do #2 before #1.
#3 and #4 aren't necessary, I don't do them.
I use paint .net and notepad++.
1. The most important part is provinces.png in map_data. You need to paint the baronies you wish to remove in color of the impassible terrain. Make sure you don't mess up the color format when you save changes, it's important. I recommend trying to remove some small part first to see if it works and you're doing everything correctly. I use GIMP, but most of graphics editors should do.
2. Removing titles from 00_landed_titles in common/landed_titles. I use Visual Code, but Notepad will do just fine too.
3. Remove the affected holy sites in common/religion/religions. I also remove them from common/religions/holy_sites, but I'm not sure if that's really necessary. I don't know if you can have a religion with no holy sites, so in cases where I have to remove all of them I add one still existing just in case.
4. common/scripted_triggers. Just copy from my mod. Needed so it doesn't crash with T&T.
6. Removing affected bookmarks.
That's the rough outline. Feel free to ask if you have further questions.
I'll repost Starmender's short guide here, that's what got me started.
The kingdoms of Croatia, Serbia, Sicily, Sardinia, Africa, Damot, and Outer Ajuraan
The duchy of Latium
The counties of Venice, Genoa, Pisa, and Ravenna
And the following to the east;
The kingdoms of Zhetysu, Dzungaria(Qocho), and Mongolia
Impassable terrain should fill in with colour again if it's surrounded by the same realm. All lakes, the big desert in southern Arabia, and the desert in the Tarim basin don't seem to fill in.
There's still some wrinkles to be ironed out but those can be done later.
Focused Map - Legacy of Persia
Focused Map - Legacy of Persia Extended
Focused Map - Northern Lords
Focused Map - Fate of Iberia
Focused Map - Northern Lords + MNR2 Compatch
I think the Mongols entered the Tarim Basin first but, as I understand it, they didn't push through it to conquer further west.
So I wrestled a bit with whether to spawn them where they'd first appear on the map or where their invasion of the Middle East properly began. I went with the latter. It's a quick, easy, and non-disruptive change to make either way.
I'm curious if anyone has any thoughts on this minor thing.
I highly recommend starting a new game with this update.
Apologies to those who are already committed to their campaigns. It won't break them, but the updated area will get real weird. @Kingfisher made me do it.
Everything looks good if a new game is started. If a few more people are vocal about wanting the Tarim Basin and being okay with restarting, then I'll implement it. And maybe reduce Tibet at the same time.
I'm less inclined towards cutting Tibet in half. It will definitely break saves and make them crash. I want to affect on-going games as little as possible when I make changes.
I was worried that something like in these mods would happen, where everything outside the playable area would appear to be owned by one realm.

'Only Britain' by Viegnar, where the world appears to be owned by Wessex.

Or 'Ireland Only' by inym, where the world appears to be owned by Dublin.
Fixed the issue with Gondwana and the others, thanks for pointing it out.
To be honest, I've never started a game in India so I can't tell when things are off. Let me know if you catch anything else.
Hiya. I never felt it was. The smaller version of map is where I want the boundaries to be for Legacy of Persia. My reasoning under the 'Why' section is meant for that and doesn't mention Tibet at all. The description for this mod is just copy pasted from that, out of laziness.
This extended version was borne from idea of making another map that focuses on India. I felt that Persia would be an important part of that, which would make it overlap with the Iranian Intermezzo focused map. I didn't want to double dip into the same area, so I tacked it onto the project I was already working on.
In short, this version is sort of for players who want to play in India. Tibet is there for their sake.
I hope that's a fair explanation.
