To anyone wanting a fix for this i found out how to fix it
in the Source folder you can open the "Researchmech.csproj" project with Visual Studio 2022, there you'll look for
public class WorkGiver_MechResearcher
within it you'll change
return ThingRequest.ForGroup((ThingRequestGroup)42);
to
return ThingRequest.ForGroup(ThingRequestGroup.ResearchBench);
then you'll press Ctrl+Shift+B to build/compile the .dll
it should appear in the Assemblies folder probably as VPEPuppeteerPatch, at least that's what's in the Assembly Properties of the project for me
that fixes it

Enabling them to do research causes them to just stand at the research bench and never actually contribute to research lol.

That's weird because the mod you just shared claims it doesn't enable work types for mechs that they can't already do.

UPDATE: You can make fabricors research! there's a mod called Mech Work Toggler https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3168630072 which can enable you to allow or disable certain work types like smoothing walls for construction or etc. in the mod settings select category research (top left button) and allow research, just did a quick colony and fabricor does research! And don't worry, fabricors still prioritize crafting over research

It's listed because since fabricor is a crafter and it can craft drugs, some drugs require intellectual skill to make, like penoxycyline or normal medicine, hence why it's probably given a intellectual skill and by that It says it can research but probably is coded to be disabled, dunno if you can somehow enable it

In 1.4, the Fabricator does not appear to want to do any researching, despite having the ability listed in it's race data:

<mechEnabledWorkTypes>
<li>Crafting</li>
<li>Smithing</li>
<li>Tailoring</li>
<li>Cooking</li>
<li>Research</li>
</mechEnabledWorkTypes>

EDIT

I have tested for 1.5, and while the mech does state it is capable of researching, there are no tasks listed for research, so it does nothing :/

You don't need this mod anymore, Fabricors can do the research along with crafting things.

Hi, yeap, just tested it, its broken on my end too, was working fine when i originally pushed the mod :( I tried to fix it and decided rewriting the entire mod would be more efficient, i will try to push the new mod in 3-4 days.
