I'll say again that it's actually good for so much back n forth. Many say too much dmg, others say not enough on some skills.
Compare him to hellion if hellion was squish as fuck.
The death's door removal was to really seal the deal on the glass cannon angle. Now he's the more fragile cannon. The death's door 1 time save thing was constantly brought up as something that made the class nearly unkillable and therefore Uncrowned wasnt really a glass cannon it was just scary to get 1 tapped to DD.
I may bring it back still, as there are plenty of discussion on both sides for this one.

ambush is tuned to give you a decent chance to 1 shot a squishy target on round 1. Think Skeleton arbalist with 12 hp.
DD combat lasts ~3 rounds per fight. Any more than that and something went wrong or you're intentionally stalling.
Ambush t1, gives 2 combo points
hemo t2, gives 1 combo point and is a low powered skill
evisc t3, with 3 combo points should do about 24 dmg on average.
Now we compare that to other heroes that compete for the Rank 1 slot on your team.
Hellion, with a base attack of 6-12 and more HP/survivability can very confidently 1 shot a back liner on turn 1 then do the same continously.
Leper base dmg is 8-16, but low acc. He cannot hit backline as well as hellion, but still can chunk hard. If he hits each round he's doing more than Unc could.
My point is, that you're seeing a big crit on turn 3 and getting scared, when on average its about the same as any other Rank 1 hero.
Anyways,
You are on NG+ and are running the standalone patch, but the Trinket is still broken. This means either: The patch isnt working, or your NG+ is set to be different than vanilla. Which can be fixed pretty easy by adjusting the values in the patch.
Have you messed with anything specific to make the NG+ harder in some way? There are a few users out there that have set the HP changes to +40% and +60% rather than the base +20%.
Feel free to contact me on Discord if you care to troubleshoot this. I'd be surprised if more things arent acting strange if that trinket is.
Does playing on NG+ and having differing HP values cause the trinket to malfunction for some reason? Does the trinket depend on HP somehow? The effect doesn't make it sound like it does.
I am playing on NG+ and I installed the standalone Uncrowned NG+ patch in the description (not the one that bulk-patches multiple classes).

Remember that Uncrowned is competing for the rank 1 slot, which is against (in vanilla) Hellion and Leper.
Both of which can smash hard every turn, with no stopping.
Uncrowned needs buildup, and once he's spent, you're now playing a catchup game. He is also severely punished on misses, totally killing his tempo. Past that, he's been heavily tested, to a point that i'd guess he's THE MOST playtested mod on the workshop before release.
You're critting for 43, on turn 4-5, on a skill that can only hit rank 1-2.
Overall loving it, though, leveled up the big boi up to champion level.

Idk. I love stealthed gameplay, and played mainly rogue for 12~ years. I usually play a rogue in every RPG.
As far as his edgeyness, he does a lot of quotes from DND lore about the Raven queen, who is, the queen of death(ish) so its just fun callbacks to that.
