i just boot it on a custom story and it closes the game and starts it up without it or any mod on

Sorry to hear that but that's not something that should happen so I can't help you. There's no reason that would happen unless you installed the mod wrong.

i mean the mod just made my game darker (mostly the shadows and i can't see crap now) and i rlly wanted to play with it but it didn't work fo me (the des didn't help :( )

Should be in C:/Documents/My Games/Amnesia The Bunker. In the Main folder, there should be (username)_user_settings.cfg

When it does work does the main menu become gray?

Sorry, don't know what to tell you then. The mod works for the people i've asked to install it. At the very least, the decal textures should be grayscaled so if even that's not happening, then it's something wrong with your game.
