Please unsubscribe from this workshop and delete its folder from /Documents/PDX/CKII/mod and then subscribe to the one I've linked above. I tested it from my end and it works as It's supposed to, but I'd appreciate if you'd let me know if it works on your end as well. Thanks!
I don't know why exactly, but after downloading the mod from the workshop, updating it multiple times, and looking at its structure, it seems that whenever I publish an update the mod isn't removing old files that I've deleted from its folder, It's also changing the .mod files for some reason...
I'm going to publish the mod as a new workshop item. Please take a look at it and let me know if that fixed it for you. I'm 99% sure the problem will be resolved by uploading it to a new workshop listing. I had something similar happen with the EU4 mod when I initially released it, but PDX seems to go a step further with this game. 😓
Taking a look at it rn
On the other hand, your 4k mod for EU4 works without issues for me.
After getting rid of the redundant upscaled character portraits which made up the bulk of the mod's size, I went ahead and upscaled all of the assets again using a different compression format, reducing the mod's size by 90%. Thanks to Steam's workshop compression I'm now able to upload the full mod. :D
What this all means is that from now on you can just subscribe to the workshop mod. No additional steps are required. Enjoy!
- As a side note, I'm trying to reduce to the mod size as much as possible by getting rid of redundant folders (6.3GB in character portraits) and experimenting with different formats.
I subscribed to the mod, downloaded the archive "gfx.7z", added the folder "gfx" to the archive "proper_4k_ui_project.zip" (in my case it is .zip and not .7z) in Documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings II/mod and activated the mod in the launcher.
Am I doing something wrong?
Yes, that's correct!
My mind must've switched to thinking about EU4 when I read its name in your comment, lol. Since there is no more development for this game, that's absolutely the best way to install it as it would allow you to get updates on any changes I make to it in the future (I'm still working on changing the size of some of the fonts in certain menus as I come across them, for example) without having to re-download the entire archive again. The only time this wouldn't apply is if I integrate more mods, but for now I'm not too concerned about that as I should be able to fit them within the 350mb workshop limit.
Sorry for not being clearer with my previous comment. Enjoy your night! 🫡
So would the "best" way to get this mod be to subscribe to the workshop for part 1 and directly download part 2? Sounds like part 2 is all the upscaled assets which would most likely not change considering development is done on the game and no new official assets will be added. The workshop portion could then be updated easily in that case and it sounds like that would control things like text positioning, etc. Is that understanding correct?
Yes! I will create one this weekend. I'm taking some time to play the new season of Diablo 4 atm 😅
And good question my friend lol...
So, 99% of the updating and changes will really only affect the .gui files that are included with the workshop mod. Typically, I'll only need to update graphical assets whenever PDX releases a new DLC, but now that you've brought that up... I think that a good solution would be for me to include in the workshop mod a banner that would appear in the main menu and tells if you're using the updated version, or if you need to grab a new gfx archive from the workshop.
