As it stands the mod does also need updating period- B42 added custom sounds for sprinters and it would be a huge mistake not to take advantage of that for such a horror-directed mod. That's where I intend to take the most editorial leeway in updating the mod, which I imagine some people might not like, but I think repeating sounds would be wasted potential.
"Destroy the Child"
"Pull out your eyes."
"I know what you did."
"I have the body of a pig."
Stuff like that.
Some ideas for further spookiness. Doors and windows around the player randomly open or close at night, there's knocking sometimes even when no zombie is there, and items around the player are sometimes moved around such as chairs and tables sliding across the room.
deleting the ZomboidSound.bank file doesn't work, you have to delete the entire sound folder, then Steam will recognize it as missing vanilla content, and reinstall the original sound file.
this may be the scariest bug i've encountered, because it still won't reinstall.
