Thank you for using demi fox, and I hope you continue to enjoy them.
Once Again An excellent explanation! Thank you very much!!
Also the issues of Biotech is rather funny and why HAR is very much better.
Been making Monstrosity with your mod has been very much amusing.
An explanation on reproduction.
The default in rimworld is using the mother pawnKindDef. The pawnKindDef contains the race to use.
Technically this introduces an error in vanilla where a wildMan pawn results in the wrong child being born if tye mother ever ran wild. This issue is solved in HAR so no need to worry regarding that.
As for xenotype that largely matters less than race unless the tail and ears were genes (fictional parts) in which case in vanilla you'd almost always end up with fewer genes than the parents regardless if they were the same xenotype, with the added chance thst the same xenotype result in a hybrid child.
If demi foxes were recreated using biotech xenotype there is a high chance their children will be hybrids unable to use the demi fox gimmick even if both parents were the demi fox xenotype.
Fair explanation overall was just wondering if Biotech could be used to recreate the kitsune i.e. through research is all. your explanation also explains why children born from two demi foxes are still demi foxes, due to the Xenotyping yes? Plus Biotech still works with this mod as i add some genes to further make my Demi foxes in my colony even better at psy stuff. also added gene Mods to make my own Kitsunes as well. Haven't had to much issues. Keep up the good work my good sir!
The only merit of biotech for demi fox is a natural meditation gene which requires C# implementation, everything else is better handled elsewhere and would requireC# to replicate for in the end fewer features.
Decoupling from HAR adds a Ton of work for lost features.
Color freedom for hair and skin comes from HAR. (Without HAR either it will be white tips or 1 solid color and gene limited I range of selection)
The real ears and tails come from a race and genes are incapable of doing. (Need to use a race that has a custom body)
And with HAR the surgery support is easy. (Needs C# to solve)
The ear variants being asymmetrical will be lost since that is also HAR. (I'd have to fight the render node system for it)
The natural meditation comes from backstories which HAR is the only reason it gets puts on new borns. (Need to create a solution)
If I remake this race not to use HAR it won't be a xenotype it'd be a race with custom render nodes because genes don't offer what I'm looking for.l and it price gates the mod.
Now as for reviving this mod 1.6 isn't out.
I have not given anyone permission to take over this mod.
Im always looking for Xenotype mods that make for interesting additions
for genetic breeding programs.
And the buff ability would make a great general addition to the game
for all sorts of drain scenarios.
No.
