I think you need [PERMITTED_REACTION:MAKE_GAMBESON] in your entity file. The game is just using the normal reaction for making clothes to make your gambesons, not your custom one. That leaves two reactions to make the same thing but like I said idk how to remove the built-in reactions
Double coverage is interesting, maybe that will rip it up faster too?
I don't think your gambeson is more protective than normal clothing, also, but idk. I was thinking of this:
[REACTION:MAKE_COIF_PADDED_CLOTH]
[NAME:make padded coif (cloth)]
[BUILDING:CLOTHES:NONE]
[REAGENT:A:20000:CLOTH:NONE:NONE:NONE][ANY_PLANT_MATERIAL][HAS_REACTION_CLASS:PADDING_WOVEN]
[REAGENT:B:30000:THREAD:NONE:NONE:NONE]
[PRODUCT:100:1:ARMOR:ITEM_HELM_COIF_PADDED:GET_MATERIAL_FROM_REAGENT:A:CRAFTED_PADDING_PLANT]
To make that work, plants and creatures that produce thread need a material made of that thread and their thread needs REACTION_CLASS
