@readerj001 Thanks for playing. This is one of my most popular scenarios, incidentally.

Nice scenario. Thanks for sharing.

@JJTimothy That's true. I've noticed SSS locos can have an easier time with banking, so I may experiment with swapping these engines for AP models and see what happens.

As to the banking scenario in Stainmore (which I have spelled correctly this time because I'm awake) I think I'm probably forgetting some subtlety in driving kettles- the loco's included with the route are more advanced models than most I have experience with and, although I like the variety of an occasional steam drive, I won't claim to be practiced at it.

The route itself does make my system work noticeably harder than others but doesn't ask too much of it. It's no worse than say Waterloo in Portmouth Direct or Newton Abbott in Riviera in the '50s when they're busy.

There are occasional posts in the forums lamenting the lack of any multi-player mode in TS. I'm not sure I see any burning need for it myself but there's a YouTube video with Matt driving and someone else firing a kettle (over Cockfield Fell as it happens) which does make a good case and I think a banking scenario assisting a train driven by a friend would also benefit. As it is I believe you had an interesting idea that TS can't quite cope with.

Like I said though- points for ambition.

@JJTimothy I took a look at your comments on the scenario. I believe part of the issue is caused by both technical issues and the Class 37 supplied with the route (I had forgotten how powerful it was).

According to the Stainmore Railway's website, there is no evidence diesel locomotives ran over Stainmore itself. They were, however, seen on freight services on the Eden Valley line until that was cut back to Appleby-in-Westmoreland.

You're not the only one who's had difficulty running Stainmore-the route is incredibly demanding on PC hardware. I have upgraded to a better PC since I last tried the route though, so hopefully an SSD and a better graphics card will do the trick.

Just added this to the Friends of DRCM website. I think you're coming up against the limits of what TS is capable of here but kudos for trying something different.

I'm interested that you're hoping to do a steam version and will look out for it. As far as I can tell trains over Stainmoor were worked entirely by steam apart from some passenger services that used DMUs- I certainly can't find any photo's of Diesel hauled trains. There is a (steam) banking scenario for the Stainmoor, Shap and Eden Valley route that I can't get to work at all but that may well by my fault.

proper szenario. thank you

@5056EoP Glad you enjoyed the run. You did the run down the hill with no brakes pinned down? You are far brave than I am.

A four star scenario already! Well-deserved. I managed to slow down for the Barnard Castle speed limits at the second attempt and completed the run just inside the 30 minutes. So I'm glad I didn't stop to pin down a few brakes. Many thanks.

@chris The only current way to proceed onwards to Stainmore would be to switch to SSS's Stainmore route. Whilst that route is seriously impressive, it is quite taxing in places on older systems. Still, diesel banking is fairly unusual in UK operations, so I thought it would be fun to recreate.

Enjoyable and different run thank you HS. Controlling and stopping unfitted freight trains with 3-link couplings was a perpetual problem for the railways in the days of steam and green diesels until the development of vacuum braking. I just did what they did on the 'real' railways and pinned down a few of the wagons at the top of the hill down into Barnard Castle which controlled the speed down the hill. Unfitted freight is why my memories of the green 37s were generally with a brake tender at the front - plenty of gradients in the Yorkshire Dales. Agreed, it would be nice to head on to Stainmore. Look forward to the steam version. Kind Regards. Chris

@pjohnandlyns The 21ton hopper does have some unusual physics, I'll agree, but that may be an attempt to simulate unfitted stock. I think I might have underestimated the power of the 37 though, as I blasted over the summit at around 35 miles an hour-faster than I thought I would be going. I can guarantee there will be a steam version of this scenario, and it will be rather more challenging.

Ran OK with no problems. No trouble getting up to Lands Viaduct but stopping it down the other side was something else. I've come across this before with the wagon type you've used (not your fault though). It feels to me like only the locos a braking and not the wagons.
