Everything Is A Gene

Using traits from other mods might be easier to do if you just have those as separate mods (ie: "Vanilla Traits Expanded - Genes", "Supreme Melee - Trait Genes" etc), and then link those mods here.
I like that the genes don't have metabolic cost. Does a pawn who has the tough trait in vanilla need to eat more? No? Then why should one who happens to have the trait due to genetics? There's already mods adding trait genes with metabolic costs, anyway.

Dumb idea:
Gene traits. Rather than being genes that add traits, these are traits that have the same effects as vanilla genes. Kill thirst, aggressive, non-violent etc traits. Cos, well, why not?

If you do add the ability to make modded traits a gene you should allow the disabling of certain mods.

Wow, this is just what I've been looking for. I hope you keep a vanilla version if ever this is going to expand into a much bigger mod that has traits from other mods. Having no metabolic cost and just complexity is just fine for the vanilla version i think.

This sounds great. Guessing you can't add it to an existing game as the pawns have spawned already with the non-modded genes?
Fredamabob  [author] Jul 18, 2023 @ 6:30pm
@Pirate-Rob I can try and add that to the list
@Laticauda That's a good idea, i'll add it to the docket for when I get back to modding

This mod is extremely useful, thank you for creating it! One thing I'd like to ask, however: Could you add a toggleable mod setting so that pawns don't naturally spawn with the gene version of their traits? Having that was almost a dealbreaker for me with this mod, and it messes up the balancing of baseliners in my opinion.

Can you make the mod silently fail if it can't find genes for modded traits, rather than report it as an error/warning? Or have it as an option

@Chara that's something i'm planning on eventually, when I have more time hopefully.

if everything is a gene would rim magic genes be a thing? time to check
Fredamabob  [author] Dec 12, 2022 @ 6:49pm
@LittleGayNugget it has all the base game traits, including sexual orientations. I'm not sure if it would be compatible, but hypothetically if they didn't alter how the traits work it would
FemboyNugget Dec 12, 2022 @ 6:06pm
Does this include sexualities? If not would it be compatible with the Sexuality Genes mod?
Fredamabob  [author] Dec 12, 2022 @ 4:03pm
@Battery Man, what would happen if you didn't inherit it? Would you die? D:
DisKorruptd Dec 8, 2022 @ 8:45pm
aww, that's unfortunate that it's not as simple as one would hope
Fredamabob  [author] Dec 8, 2022 @ 12:34pm
@DisKorruptd maybe in the future, but a quick look at their codebase and it isn't a simple feature to add, as they have overhauled how the system works. The passion gene code was mostly already in the game, I just enabled it here.
DisKorruptd Dec 8, 2022 @ 11:17am
I assume this will later be getting Vanilla Skills Expanded support for their passions as Genes?
