@cybercal808 Thank you. I am glad I could help. Just make sure your engines don't overheat as when you are pushing their theoretical max :)

This is insane, actually amazing! Now for the first time I can actually benchmark my custom modular engines to get an idea of how powerful they actually are. I've been using this ETU as a helpful tool to make my modular engines better & more powerful.

Because of your creation, I have discovered & made a theory that placing more than one flywheel on a modular engine can significantly increase the inertia of the engine to give it much more higher RPS. In other words, it can make 1x1 modular engines MUCH more powerful & produce a higher swatt output before dropping down in power. My Inline 8 engine with dual flywheels was able to output roughly an extra 100-200+ swatts worth of power, compared to the original 164 swatts under forced induction, which is more than enough to propell my 40 knott high-speed Armored Boat that I've spent months on trying to improve.

Thank you for such a wonderful creation!:steamhappy:

@theoshuff there should be a node on the main ETU controller (big MC) that connects to on/off of your engine controller of choice. For the clutch just connect it to a constant number set to 1
theosshuff Apr 8, 2024 @ 8:17am
Can this connect to on/off button on engine controller, aswell as a node for the modular engine clutch
ACE Jan 28, 2024 @ 2:07am
yeah, but torque still has to exist in stormworks in some way, you simply cannot avoid torque with mechanical linkages, and i was wondering if you'd actually put the effort in to make a torque sensor that doesn't spit ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ values out
Nova  [author] Jan 27, 2024 @ 8:19pm
some units in sw are just units sw created, like generators dont make wats, its called stormworks watts (swatts) same with torque
ACE Jan 27, 2024 @ 3:42am
yeah exactly, i actually need torque value that either gives off a value that is a measurement of torque but not Nm as i can't actually find proportionality, or literal Nm in stormworks
Cam Jan 26, 2024 @ 11:14pm
From what iv heard, the torque number is meaningless
Nova  [author] Jan 26, 2024 @ 10:52pm
@ACE torque is from the rps/torque sensor. no need to calculate it
ACE Jan 12, 2024 @ 2:06pm
how did you calculate torque?
Nova  [author] Oct 18, 2023 @ 4:42am
@Cam Sure ill see what i can do. It has been a while since i've worked on this project and i need to understand how i made the program work XD
Cam Oct 11, 2023 @ 9:33pm
Could you add a best performing clutch value statistic at the end of a test? as iv noticed clutches behave very weirdly with partial engagements
Von Richthofen Mar 31, 2023 @ 3:22pm
damn okay
Nova  [author] Mar 27, 2023 @ 6:52pm
@Von, sorry i didint post it. Im making a new car dashboard and and auto transmition with it. IDK when ill be done bc of school, srry
Von Richthofen Mar 22, 2023 @ 5:44pm
thanks man
Nova  [author] Mar 19, 2023 @ 8:22pm
@von ok i have an auto transmition and vehicle dashboard mc done but i just need to polish up things and make it user friendly. idk when ill release it tho but it will be within 5 ish days.... i hope
Von Richthofen Mar 19, 2023 @ 7:12pm
yeah because it would first of all be awesome and secondly i dont know a lot about coding but wouldnt it be somewhat simple to modify the etu to work as a trans
Nova  [author] Mar 18, 2023 @ 5:19pm
@Von Do you mean an auto transmition?
Von Richthofen Mar 18, 2023 @ 4:07pm
could you make a auto gearbox please?
Nova  [author] Mar 17, 2023 @ 1:53pm
@lonnygarden i might be able to. Im pretty bad at editing and i dont have a good mic. I'll see what i can do
lonnygarden Mar 11, 2023 @ 1:20pm
i am not an expert at this game
lonnygarden Mar 11, 2023 @ 12:57pm
my brain is hurting rn could you please make a video on it
Nova  [author] Feb 27, 2023 @ 10:56am
@Lilac :D. Thanks!

Why am I not surprised that a protogen is the one to make a highly technical thing like this-
Corona Bottle Fleshlight Feb 11, 2023 @ 4:43am
brain hurty
Nova  [author] Feb 8, 2023 @ 6:34pm
@mrmckenna ok?

♥♥♥♥ this
Nova  [author] Feb 5, 2023 @ 11:56am
I just want to thank you from the depths of my heart for all of the support and feedback. I never imagined this tool to get as popular as it is!
Nova  [author] Feb 3, 2023 @ 10:02pm
@Mockbubbles No your not. Max power is Max power ignoring the overheating of the engine. If you want to get the max efficiency (w/s/L) then you can attempt to use the efficency screens. It is expiremental though and it is not always accurate. If you want to have your engine stay below a certain rps and see how much power it can produce while not going above that rps, use a constant RPS modular engine controller
Mockbubbles Feb 3, 2023 @ 2:04pm
my bad, did not realize I was supposed to remove all RPS limits, also its kind of flawed with modular engines because it says the max power will be at 55-60RPS, but they will never be able to sustain that. Also I found that for my more powerful engines (like my large rescue boat that has a total of 44 3x3 cylinders) I had to gear up the engines before they went into the ETU otherwise it would never actually load them enough to reduce the RPS below 60, am I doing something wrong?
Nova  [author] Feb 3, 2023 @ 8:45am
@MockBubbles Yes. IDK but for some reason when it disengages clutch to changes gear the power of gen fluctuates before stabilizing. For your second question, i do not know. It might be be some error/one time thing. If it persists please comment again and ill look into it
Mockbubbles Feb 3, 2023 @ 7:14am
also no gear ratio is given at the end, do you know why?
Mockbubbles Feb 3, 2023 @ 7:09am
this is super cool, when testing it on my boat the power generation wobbles around a bunch, is that supposed to happen?
Nova  [author] Jan 30, 2023 @ 11:13am
@kclarke did you follow directions EXACTLY. make sure your engine rps is greater than stall rps. Stall rps is so that the ETU does not stall your engine and it will disengace clutch if engine reaches that rps (Default is 5) you can change this setting in the main MC of ETU
historybuff_69 Jan 30, 2023 @ 10:10am
doesn't work, when i press start test it just stays on 0% complete
Nova  [author] Jan 30, 2023 @ 5:00am
@m4tik, a crank is very low power. might be too low for tester. try reducing the gear ratio going between the crank and the tester and then in the main MC of the etu, set the stall rps to 0
m4tik Jan 28, 2023 @ 1:10pm
Its great mate ! i use it for sure :-)

but when i try to test a Crank, it doesent work :-((( :-D can u fix it ? :-D
Nova  [author] Jan 21, 2023 @ 9:23pm
@admiral_fubuki TY glad i could help :D
Nova  [author] Jan 21, 2023 @ 9:22pm
@Thicc, Yest it does
admiral_fubuki Jan 21, 2023 @ 8:28am
thanks for this helped my gene in my tanker big time didnt know i could get such better power to fuel use
ThiccBeard Jan 20, 2023 @ 4:29pm
does this work with jet engines?
Nova  [author] Jan 3, 2023 @ 12:19am
@Leviator yes. Clutch sweep is for optimal
rpm
Levitator Jan 2, 2023 @ 8:10pm
Also, I assume you sweep the clutch because you are looking for an optimal RPM between gearings, but to me that raises the question of how much friction loss occurs in the clutch (if it is modeled), which could confound identification of peak power. But, I guess if you are releasing the clutch and your power is going up, that does tell you something. Ultimately, if the clutch is giving up 5% power, that is not a lot, and it is break-even with a second gearbox.
Levitator Jan 2, 2023 @ 7:24pm
Well, you might be able to largely or entirely dispense with the clutch sweep because the gears are very close together, so that would reduce the test time. You would just be looking for the RPM to settle after each gear change before logging the result and advancing.
Nova  [author] Jan 2, 2023 @ 3:04pm
NOTICE:Typo in the 2nd image in the blue box: "Yest" should be "Test", "ginished" should be "finished"
Nova  [author] Jan 2, 2023 @ 2:42pm
@Levitator, I guess i could, it would not be that hard. I just need to tweak the settings in lua and re make the desgine of the gearbox layout and it would work. problem with 23 gear box is that it would take FOREVER to complete test and if they are planning to do "Efficiency" test then they would have to have a MASSIVE fuel tank. 23 seems a bit exessive but ill look into it
Levitator Jan 2, 2023 @ 11:43am
Neato. This thing is really cool. Still want to know what you think of integrating the 23-speed transmission so that you can scan dual-gearbox ranges of ratios.
Nova  [author] Jan 2, 2023 @ 8:55am
UPDATE: Added "Efficiency" data recorder and some other small info that might be useful when making your engines!
Nova  [author] Jan 1, 2023 @ 2:00pm
@ Papita. Engine should be at max throttle. Unless you are using a constant RPS controller.
patatita Dec 31, 2022 @ 1:10pm
engine has to be at max throttel or idle during the test
