Thanks, had a fiddle about and could not get the script to function. Great mod otherwise, all the table based changes are working

@cbloom:
The main script file currently only opens for Immortal Empires campaigns, but I see no technical reason why it *shouldn't* work if I activated it for Old World. I will check with ChaosRobie to see about updating this.

Does not work with old world?

Update: After the changes, there was a mod conflict breaking the upgrade UI - this works perfectly fine!

I'm very new to this function and don't know yet how to retrieve a log file. It's only when playing Bretonnia and on the first turn. It happened when I click on Repanse, or Henri, and it's with Louen. If you're on Discord we can discuss it further. Would be glad to help,

@AwDiddums:
Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad the mod feels the way it was meant to and that people are enjoying it.

As for the script break, I've done some testing with this version and haven't come across it yet. Do you have the log file, by chance? Is it whenever you click on any Bretonnian lord? Only when playing as Bretonnia? Are there any specific circumstances required? Any info would be handy.

This mod is thematic, loreful, and feels like its part of the game already! It's really well done. Thanks, Dux. I've added this to my Bretonnia play-through collection. I am getting a .lua script break warning when I click on a Bretonnian Lord when previously I did not with this mod active.

Major update!

HIGHLIGHT: All Bretonnian Legendary Lords now receive a unique bonus specific to this mod as part of their faction effects:
-- Louen Leoncoeur can directly recruit Knights of the Realm from the start of the game.
-- The Fay Enchantress can directly upgrade Questing Knights to Grail Guardians, skipping the Grail Knight stage if desired.
-- Alberic de Bordeleaux's knights retain ALL of their experience when upgrading from Knights Errant to Knights of the Realm.
-- Repanse de Lyonesse can raise Foot Squires to knightly status, able to upgrade those who have reached Rank 7 directly into Questing Knights.

Full change notes listed in the change notes section.

@Snotwasabi:
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying it.

Mod has been checked for compatibility with 6.1.1, no issues detected. I will be doing a substantive update in the near future that will add some unique recruiting bonuses for each Legendary Lord. Repanse, for example, will uniquely be able to promote Foot Squires directly to Questing Knights.

Such a great a mod! I really hope CA makes a system like this official

Mod updated for 4.1! No changes required.

@Salix:
I have no plan to implement an upgrade system for peasants, as it goes against one of my primary design goal for this mod, which is to greater differentiate knight units from peasant units. That said, you may be interested in BAGHolder's general upgrades mod, which I linked in the description. He opens the Warband system up to all races and units.
Salix Nov 17, 2023 @ 5:23pm
I would really love if this applied to peasants as well (i.e. you had to recruit and train peasant mobs to level up foot soldiers), perhaps as a submod. I imagine there might need to be access to more peasant buffs and / or knight upkeep increased to make peasants more attractive. Tempted to try make this myself - though I'm new to modding.

Mod updated for 4.0!

- No changes, just compatibility assurance

@Jev Athens:
Correct, the AI is not capable of using it.
Jev Athens May 23, 2023 @ 1:40pm
Why exclude the AI from this mechanic? Is it not capable of using it?
Very cool mod otherwise
Dux  [author] Apr 17, 2023 @ 3:29pm
@GoatScream:
This mod should work as-is in 3.0. I have checked the pack file, and it all looks good. That said, I will be providing an update in the near future to fix a couple of minor bugs that I found. In the meantime, you can still use it.
GoatScream Apr 14, 2023 @ 3:17pm
Update?

Amazing work CA needs to make this official

NEW VERSION!

The mod has been updated to Version 1.1. Based on player feedback, this version expands upgrades so that they are available globally as soon as the required building is built anywhere, but upgrading outside a province containing the building will come at a cost premium (+100%), just like global recruitment. Special skills from Louen Leoncoeur and The Fay Enchantress which previously increased recruitment rank for advanced knights have been altered so that these benefits apply when upgrading to these units as well. Check out the change notes page for full details.

Also possible issue that I started a game with this mod enabled, disabled the mod, and my recruitment of knights seems to still be blocked despite no longer using the mod
Rellek Dec 10, 2022 @ 10:31pm
I think so. I mean, the Lady doesn't always require her knights to go all the way home to find the grail I don't think...
Dux  [author] Dec 10, 2022 @ 2:51pm
@Rellek:
Producing a system that is equivalent to what is available in vanilla was not a design goal for this mod. The whole point is to make the progression of knight units more like how it is in the lore, where junior knights must get battlefield experience before progressing and cannot simply be trained to be Grail Knights, for example.

That said, your feedback has made me think that perhaps the system would benefit from allowing global upgrades (i.e., upgrades away from provinces with the right buildings) at an increased cost, kind of like how global recruitment works ordinarily. The building would still be required somewhere, but you would no longer be forced to upgrade only within that province. Do you think this would be an improvement?
Rellek Dec 10, 2022 @ 1:13pm
I meant that in vanilla you can do that, but the mod restricts that, and at least so far doesn't give anything of equivalent value in exchange that I can tell
Dux  [author] Dec 10, 2022 @ 5:49am
@Rellek:
Thanks for trying the mod! An important component of this mod is that it restricts direct recruitment for all Bretonnian knight units except for Knights Errant, so you cannot simply disband these units and recruit new ones at a much higher XP rank. To gain access to higher-level knights using this mod, you *must* go through the upgrade system.
Rellek Dec 9, 2022 @ 4:04pm
Just wanted to say I tried out this mod, and I feel like it needs a bit more incentive to use. Needing to be in the recruitment province to upgrade your knights kinda defeats the purpose of not just disbanding them and recruiting new ones at much higher xp rank, doesn't it?
Dux  [author] Nov 26, 2022 @ 3:52am
@Gabbe:
The changes made by this mod only apply to human players. The AI will recruit normally without restrictions (the AI cannot use the upgrade system).
Gabe Nov 25, 2022 @ 7:08pm
Will this work for the AI? Or will they stop recruiting grail units all together?
Dux  [author] Nov 24, 2022 @ 7:08am
Mod updated for 2.3! No changes necessary; confirmed working.

If you like this mod, please give it a positive rating! I'm very close to the minimum required for the rating to show up in search, which helps immensely with gaining visibility. Thanks for the support!
GLaDOS_cz Nov 23, 2022 @ 4:25am
@Dux Thank you, thats excatly what i wanted. Your mod is cool tho, just not for my taste.
Dux  [author] Nov 22, 2022 @ 1:14pm
@GlaDOS_cz:
That would go against the main design goal of this mod, which is to require that Bretonnian knight units get battlefield experience before the player gets access to advanced versions. What you're describing is pretty much what BAGHolder's mod (linked in description) does, though. You may want to check that out!
GLaDOS_cz Nov 22, 2022 @ 5:52am
This would be awesome for me if it would not affect building recruitment and just offer the possibility to upgrade "veteran" knights.
Dux  [author] Nov 19, 2022 @ 1:33pm
@cniht:
I'm working on that now. I think there may be a conflict with the building changes -- which I hope to work with Lily to alleviate -- but otherwise all seems good.
cniht Nov 18, 2022 @ 5:27pm
Interesting. Quick question: Any side by side testing with Lilly's Bretonnian Overhaul?
Walkabout Nov 18, 2022 @ 2:41pm
Awesome will give it a test after the patch drops next week. Love that it is restricted to Knights as it should be for Brettonia.
