can also confirm that this works fine. though dubs bad hygiene causes some issues if the added needs arent met. But that's an interaction with vanilla, and nothing to do with this mod.
(in my case my kids weren't learning because I forgot to set up a wash pan, and cleaning with well water wasnt enough for them)

Works fine in 1.5. Works fine with dubs bad hygiene as long as thirst isn't enabled. This mod works wonders, thankyou!

@Skye Sorry, I should have pointed out that this a new twist on the problem. This mod has worked great until just this week for me. Now the learning just drops to zero in some cases. I'm using a work around for now.

@Sebster I literally explained why this happens in the very next comment. Hydration is a vital need and pawns won't do any learning if vital needs are not fulfilled first. I.e. let your pawns take a crap and a piss and some food and they'll get right back to learning. I think vital needs are defined as like being at under 30 or 20% need filled. This also is part of the base game logic which is why I didn't remove it.

yeah i remember in the base game code i had to patch for this mod there's some logic saying they wont get assigned a learning job if they have low vital needs, it usually doesn't come up bc if u have kids they're prob not starving and rimworld pawns eat at like .2 food bar. Since hydration is a new vital need that makes sense it'd block learning.

Just an update, in case anyone else had the same problem; Dubs Bad Hygiene can make the pawns not learn if their bladder and hygiene needs are are bad. Not issue with this at all.

Alright, it's definitely working ^^. However, I noticed that what the kids gain in growth progress, they lose in skill progression. The time they have to learn something until they're back at 100% learning is so short that virtually no skill improvement can be gained. Often they take so long to even reach their place of learning that the bar is full before they even get there. That can't be intention of this mod, can it? Perhaps a target threshold of 95% would balance things out better?

How do I know that the mod is working? Just asking because my kids' learning percentage still keeps dropping well below 99% without them doing anything about it.

I think the current system is perfect. I'm running a bunch of mods that add inefficiency (Dubs Bad Hygiene and Psychology) and it's really nice to not feel like I'm choosing between mods that add to the game vs. having kids learn. Thanks again for your hard work in adding this mod. Cheers.

I set it higher than the average needed for full learning because they will not interrupt already assigned jobs to look for learning and kids can get sick or injured and incapacitated for a while and fall behind on learning as a result, or come to you later than their learning tier starts with 0 learning, but you can make up for lost time with a high threshold. If you want them to do less learning then you could just sprinkle 2 - 3 hours of work time in their schedule and probably get the needed learning to level up. I also wanted the threshold high so you could draft/undraft and at almost any time make them learn. Maybe they'll add a learning threshold target like the meditation one in the next big patch, but idk how to implement that ive hardly touched UI.

That or 95%, I find it a tad silly it wasn't a slider like Psyfocus and Hemogen is so we can choose how much we want our kids to care about learning.

I would probably just set it to 92% as that is the average percentage required throughout a growth stage. That means your kids need to have at least 2.75 learning a day from 3 to 7 to hit Growth Stage 8 and 3.66 from 7 to 10 and 10 to 13.

Fixed! I wasn't using a reference variable to change the return value of the original method I patched. Tested and it works now.

@ Skye,

After seeing your post earlier today I went ahead and tried your mod again (I also did what you recommended about Character Editor). I can confirm that this did indeed fix the children immediately turning into adult bodies! However, after observing the child pawn's behavior I agree with what Aurelius said.

However, I just wanted to say that I really appreciate your time and effort you've put into this mod and tracking down my previous issue! I'll keep a close eye on this mod as I think it's a really useful concept.

Hi. This is a really neat concept and exactly what I've been looking for. I'm not getting any of the bugs that other people reported (running about 270 mods yep a lot).

However, this mod also doesn't seem to do anything? I added it to an existing save, and children are still idle above and below 90% learning until they start a new job. Drafting/undrafting them doesn't speed up the job check. I've also seen learning need decay all the way down to 80% when their desired activity is available.

No errors, so presumably this is an incompatibility or other issue?

No problem, I think many people thought that because this is one of the only mods explicitly aimed at children and learning, and a lot of people have character editor and use it pretty religiously, and i wouldnt immediately assume it was that mod either, especially without an error to track where it actually came from.

The character editor mod is still getting comments about this exact issue, considering it that mods issue for now unless you can confirm otherwise for me, you might need to stay unsubscribed from the mod for now since people are still reporting it, but resubbing worked for that guy on reddit so ymmv.

Check if this is the issue, i dont use character editor so it would make sense, try unsubbing, waiting for steam to undownload character editor then resub to it. Ive recently had a lot of issues with mods not autoupdating their files with the workshop so its pretty plausible. Lemme know if that works.

Oh, so this is the mod that broke my poor kids. When using Camera+, I noticed that zooming in too much would bring up that old Biotech error of drawing pink squares around the kids, then I noticed them wearing adult clothing.

I fixed a small thing on my mod but im pretty sure it wasn't the cause of your issues, if either or both of you could post links to your modlists it might help me out cus I can't test an error without being able to replicate it.

@ Skye is a nerd: Hi there, just wanted to let you know I was having the same error as Womack334 - all the children in my colony lost their learning bar, had adult bodies, etc. with no error message. Unsubscribing and verifying the game files seems to have resolved it, though! Love the mod and would love to sub again in the future if this gets fixed :)

I could not replicate this error after some pretty extensive testing, might wanna redownload(unsub on steam and resub steam can get confused if you just delete the file) the mod or reinstall the game if your error persists, otherwise idk, cus my patch doesn't really edit anything that could do that unless a catastrophic error happened.

Hopefully I'm the only one experiencing these issues, but I just wanted to give you a heads up in case other people are having the same problems. Also, there's no error log message related to this that I could share with you and I do not have any other mods that would affect learning or babies.

I really like the idea of this mod. Before searching on the workshop today I was just thinking that it would be nice if the learning threshold was at 95%. 99% will definitely do the trick. However, when using this mod, children instantly get treated as adults. They have adult bodies, wear adult clothes, there is no learning bar, work types are still locked as if they are children, etc. It first happened when I used this on an existing colony with a child already in it so I decided to try a brand new colony but the newborn immediately popped out with an adult body (able to walk, wear adult clothes, but still unable to work). Unsubscribing and deleting the mod did not reverse the changes either. Hopefully I can fix it by verifying my game files.

Yea to clarify, vanilla behavior is above 90% learning children wont try to learn, theyll pick other jobs, the mod changes that behavior to above 99% learning they wont try to learn.
