Any plans to further divide the states? I could probably help with that since I'm in the process of making a mod that would have more states and give them their unique traits.

Awesome and very fun mod, thank you guys so much. Could you consider changing the Philippines architecture to the Mediterranean style same as the 'Spanish Philippines Flavor and Immersion' mod? I think it affects the whole Indonesia region though but it would be a nice thing to consider.

I was playing as Philippines in Victoria 2. So it was always possible then. Although in Victoria 3 it seems like you get more immigrants (even with vanilla arable land) and expansion is easier with less consequences.

Especially as you can setup mercantile relationship (not to be confused for the ingame law) between your homeland and colonies. Like spam groceries in China so your rice and sugar farmers, in the Philippines' home islands, can get high wages so they pay a lot of tax to you. If you shut down the o___m production in Thailand and Yunnan then you can essentially corner the market with production from Visayas and then your farmers will pay a lot of tax to you.

Endgame the craziest setup I've had has been electrified tooling shops in Philippines have machinists (lower class) with a 30 SoL as they're supplying the tooling needs of the entire Empire. But tooling shops seem like an endgame factory for high SoL.

Good job for creating this mod! Seeing the Spanish Philippines in YT is one of the main reasons I bought the game :without waiting for sale. I would love to try this mod as soon as I can.

Well for me I am just editing and balancing Palm Engel's mod. I've not gone down the rabbit hole of events because I get flashback from earlier PdX modding. Writing events can be very frustrating and it's why we changed to Focus Trees in Hoi4.

Palm Engel's mod as it is a pretty good base because he's depicted the indigenous cultures.

I'm just of a differing opinion that we should just decide the ethnic question of Philippines in 1836 with an event and let vanilla mechanics take care of the rest. What might be needed are new tags for each indigenous culture for the scenario of Philippines Balkanizing. So you can do things like reform the Philippines but instead of Tagalog dominated (as per historical timeline) it could be another indigenous culture leading it.

Philippines was 17 million people by 1940. Luzon is like 1/3 the size of the country. 60% worked in agriculture

17 million (people) x .33 (size) x .60 (workforce) / 4 (dependents) / 5000 (jobs per plantation) = 165 acres. Which is almost identical to the arable land number in vanilla.

The problem with this is Victoria 3 is meant to be AltHistory. We know from RL that Indonesia and Philippines are among the most populated countries now and still employ a lot of people in agriculture.

So it's more like their ingame arable land needs to be at least 10x what it is. Or another solution in the modding community is Asia needs special forms of subsistence buildings that can hire more people.

@email.dispoable

Having looked through that resources mod. It seems a lot of it is arbitrary / kneejerk numbers. Like Luzon has almost 2x the arable land of Visaya. Mindanao has even less. I do like the idea of dissociating plantations from subsistence farms but we need tech upgrades for them. The whole idea of plantations was more the Americas due to low population density. A lot of Europe and even Japan still had small farms at the end of this game's era.

Still a problem with Governor Generals staying in office forever. I think it's because new leader on reform implies to winning an election. Although I do enact landed voting in most of my games (eventually) so players might just have to tolerate this abstraction as there being a new appointed Governor General in each election.

Looking within the game code: there is a kill character command. It seems like this would either have to be a decision or an event that would fire after a couple of years of each new Governor General. I wouldn't know how to write that coding line.

Re: changing the culture, I'm planning on adding a decision, once the Philippines is breaking away from Spain, for the player to decide what path the constitution will take insofar as what defines the nascent Filipino national identity moving forward.

I haven't fleshed it out too much just yet, but I imagine that you could decide between formally enshrining native culture alongside Spanish culture (something akin to official bilingualism, etc.), striking Spanish influence from the national identity entirely, or simply leaving it as-is.

@JBC I'm flattered that you made a separate sub-mod of this one! If you'd like, feel free to shoot me a message so I can add you as a contributor to the project/this mod. I have this hosted on GitHub for version control.

My theory for better Philippines' immigration

Add European, South-East Asian and East Asian heritage to Mestizo
Add Hispanophone, Chinese and Malay culture to Mestizo

The obvious part is some Mestizos are all 3. And they might have individual choices as to which culture to practice at home.

This will allow Spanish, Chinese and Malay cultures to do mass migrations into Philippines while under cultural supremacy. Without any weird consequences like Irish or Germans or Thais coming in.

Racial S_____ is then something passed by the player if they want to open themselves to European migration and Korean / Japanese / Manchu immigration waves. Albeit this is not the racial s_____ of USA's history. Just more an acknowledgement that Philippines is the crossroad of East Asia and South East Asia.

@Ilokana @ palm engels re: culture removal or adding

The simple event or decision, if becoming independent, would be for the Philippines to choose between European, European-Mestizo, Mestizo-Indigenous (the historical outcome?) or Indigenous.

AFAIK for Mestizo-Indigenous to work you'll need both European & South East Asian culture on the Mestizo and Hispanophone (spelling?) so the Indigenous will be accepted under cultural supremacy.

The European and Indigenous would be the most disadvantaged. Like the Spanish ones wouldn't get any immigrants (except for a fluke) until they've passed racial s______ under citizenship. Then they *might* get Irish, Germans or Yankee. I would say the Indigenous only one could make Philippines revert into an unrecognized state. But the indigenous only version could have cool flavor like a brand new country name?
lol  [author] Nov 7, 2022 @ 9:58am
@Ilokana: Not at the moment, but that is planned, yes!

My thinking is that it would only happen through the insurrectionist options, and not if you choose to pursue the Ilustrados' reforms (given that they pushed for assimilation rather than outright recognition). That may or may not change as I continue to work on that side of things and run into balance/gamefeel issues, but that's how it works in my mind, anyway.

Does this mod remove Spanish as one of the two primary cultures of the country? I hate the fact I can't remove it.
lol  [author] Nov 2, 2022 @ 11:31pm
@email.disposable: That may definitely be an oversight on my part.

I suppose I could add "Philippine Mestizo" as a primary culture, as well, though my intent was to somehow represent a stratified system where Philippine-born Spaniards (insulares) still enjoy more social and legal privileges over the mixed-race Filipino Mestizos. In hindsight, that... may not be model-able with how assimilation in-game currently functions. Oh well.
