You really aught to have it so welded structures are stronger, granted I've used screws to attack metal bits IRL and its pretty tough but I'm speaking from a balance point, plus a single piece of metal will always be a lot stronger than something attacked with bits.

don't forget about the screwdriver as an option, depending on what you are building.
