I was worried I made it to hard for anyone to have the patience to complete it.
The black box is just a big ominous obstacle.
Just a slightly creepy thing to make the map a little less empty.
To address your concerns:
- I did not add healing to add a sense of dread
- monsters are meant to chase you from area to area to create constant fear (Nearly invincible monsters can be killed with the full clip of a rifle taken from one of the dark soldiers or the blue laser found in the starting zone close to spawn)
- I can't add beneath monsters as their ai behaviour acts different as well as they have no damage options
- Adding more throughout the level would hinder the theme
I'm glad you found my creation accurate but am disappointed you didn't enjoy yourself.
I think I reached my goal for this level.
Make enemies, weapons, and decorations a little more common so the player doesn't get bored, and can tell where they haven't been a little easier.
Use some beneath monsters, the beholders fit into the freakyness of the backrooms nicely, for example.(if you use shard lords remember to turn off their teleportation in level settings)
Also, one of the frowners managed to follow me out of the frowner area somehow, and since they are too tough to fight they probably shouldn't be able to do that.
1 point for accuracy to portraying the backrooms.
1 point for effort as it probably took a long time to make.
The problem is it's TOO accurate in that a person would have to wander for literal hours to win, it's extremely empty, and death comes way too easy.
Basically you sacrificed fun for accuracy.
