Could, but I feel like it's better handled by just giving them 'shield' than ranged damage reduction.

Yeah I will be making my own, I have a few ideas that I wanted to implement, and I'm not big on the Tzeetch shield on units for some reason. Seen it on a few mods and its never taken my fancy.

Yeah tweaking it like that could easily mess it up, even using decimals...

Have you thought about giving them resistance to range? I know that monster units, or some at least, gets that apparently although I've not seen that myself yet. Someone mentioned it on a mod, Decky's Khorne Legacy Bull...

You could probably create your own version of it which gives slightly more hp per second than the standard one. The alternative would be finding a way to apply it on a per-model basis which would... way overtune it.

Hmmm, I was thinking about tweaking them myself. Good info on the hunger btw. If I come up with a fix / alternative to that I'll let you know
