... Also given how few of their enemies actually have gunpowder weaponry, the guns are also less of a problem. It's basically just the Empire and the Dwarves (With exception for the Vampire Coast, but they're quite far away) using gunpowder weaponry.
... Also given that they're bringing field artillery with them, apparently in full working order ready to be deployed on a moment's notice, I don't think the guys who are only slightly slowed down are really the thing slowing down the army.
But for those folks acting like the Empire should be handing out full suits of plate to every single soldier don't understand how expensive that would be, how slow and bulky that would make entire armies, and how useless plate armor was against guns or trained archers.
Plate armor disappeared as technology advanced for a reason.
